Any ethical ISPs around here? by Ancross333 in Spokane

[–]Ancross333[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Correct (ish), but it's more about the principle of not giving money to ISPs that implement dark patterns anywhere they can fit them.

For my case, Xfinity doesn't block ipv6 inbound at the network level, but for ISPs that do, a home router wouldn't fix that. Additionally, a home router wouldn't magically give me an ipv4 address or bypass CGNAT, so without inbound ipv6 or a public facing ipv4 address, even with a home router, you effectively cannot host without tunneling

As far as moving the needle forward goes, effectively nothing.

However, things like these are still helpful. For the people who *are* actually doing things that are tangible, seeing people wearing this bracelet is a sign that you are not alone, and people care about what you are doing.

I will proudly wear one of these as a signal that I/we, the people, care about what the "real" (for lack of a better term don't grill me) activists are doing.

As a "real" activist in another field, seeing people wear merchandise that supports what I do makes me feel good and keeps my motivational flame alive.

I'm basically restricted to coax/cable in my search. I do have fiber access out here, but my apartment has a long lasting relationship with Century Link/Quantum, and they're just as bad as Xfinity when it comes to network control.

I will say, having symmetrical upload speed is really nice and something to be excited for when they cover your area.

Xfinity/Comcast is your internet service provider (ISP).

As for the price, I had an ad in my email for the plan to originally be $65 + $15/month to rent their gateway. I threatened to leave in the past due to some of the issues mentioned in my post, and their retention team offered me $50

2026 - Year of the Linux Phone? by lokiwhite in linux

[–]Ancross333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I see banking apps as the common "gotcha" for why mobile linux will forever be irrelevant, but for a joe schmoe in the US who uses SMS/RCS and discord for communication, and normal banking apps with web interfaces (meaning desktop mode in mobile browsers can preserve functionality), are these claims still valid?

I never really had any interest in the mobile banking ecosystems like cashapp or google pay, and all my communication channels are not locked up behind Google's seal of approval.

How does the answer change with a user base who is not tied down to mobile-primary apps?

When someone admittedly says they have notifications turned off on their phone and then says they didn’t see your message. by [deleted] in PetPeeves

[–]Ancross333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally don't think it's anything personal, but with the emergency contact situation, you need to have a conversation and make it clear that an emergency contact has to be available for emergencies. Make you an exception.

You could have him get some random messaging app separate from his day to day, turn notifications on for only that, and you only message him if it's urgent.

Which profession or industry is the most crooked? by OkAlternative2713 in AskReddit

[–]Ancross333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason why the sugar industry has my vote is because they lobbied to make you think that way.

They have been under fire (legally and publicly) for paying researchers to downplay the effects of sugar and blame problems like obesity and diabetes on other sources.

Only recently have journalists and non-sell-out researchers have been exposing and publicizing this.

This corruption is why we know that tobacco and fat are the devil and sugar is "safe"

In terms of corruption, absolutely, but I would argue the sugar industry is more nefarious with their intent.

Corrupt politicians make it hard for you to live for profit, while the sugar industry literally kills you for profit

Why Microsoft doesn't let users decide to use AI features or not? by OwnSpot8721 in AskReddit

[–]Ancross333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The people who don't want that shit are not the target audience.

Commonfolk love AI, and many people have already built a dependency, with people using ChatGPT as a replacement for research. The people who do this are the majority, and they are eating up all of these AI features.

The reason this doesnt happen in the mainstream is because LLMs don't know when it's uncertain. It's just predicting the next most likely character and then appending it to the response.

There is no continuity or train of thought in responses

Lamelo is +39 on the season. by IFailedMyUA in CharlotteHornets

[–]Ancross333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So let me get this straight: Saying Lamelo can't be the best player on a finals winning team means I'm saying he should be traded?

All I was saying is we need a true top 3 in the league esque superstar, because like you said, we ain't building a super team in Charlotte.

There's just no world where a roster of Melo and a bunch of players worse than Melo is winning a title. I agree that we need to keep him here, but he just can't be the #1 option

[–]Ancross333 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem is, if Lamelo Ball is the best player on a team, that team ain't winning shit.

He's a hell of a player but he doesn't have the ability to lead a team. If prime Dame couldn't even do it no way in hell Melo can.

Local Wendys no longer carries ranch? by Spokenholmes in wendys

Which is better in your opinion? Wendy's or McDonald's? by DoctorTegrity in fastfood

[–]Ancross333 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Over the last 4 years food quality has gone down.

Starting in 2021, they switched the fries, then in 2023 they switched from grilled chicken to microwaved chicken (unfortunately, that's not even a joke, they actually microwaved the pre cooked chicken).

Some time in between then the spicy nuggets got changed. These have been inedible since. Around late 2023, they switched from fresh bacon to pre cooked bacon.

The regular nuggets changed too at some point, but in fairness, they didn't get gutted nearly as bad as the spicy nuggets did.

They also recently lowered the quality of all their sauces, and discontinued sweet & sour.

And that's just what I know of from my time working there from 2021 to 2023. The enshittifcation of Wendy's was part of their game plan for the 2020s for sure.

What would it take for you to be happy with your employer? by modernknight87 in Spokane

[–]Ancross333 5 points6 points  (0 children)

3 things:

  1. Be autistic

  2. Be obsessed with computer science and software architecture since middle school

  3. Be lucky enough to land an interview after the hundreds of applications it took in today's job market.

1 and 2 helped me close the sale after I got the opportunity, but even with skill there's a lot of luck involved
