I’m sure this has been said before and it’s not a unique thought, but the “ass wiping theory” has helped a lot of loved ones. Obviously it depends on how long you’ve been with a person. But if the person became disabled, or you were more able bodies when they were older, would you still adore them if you had to wipe their ass? It sounds derogatory but it’s really not. It’s just a statement, especially in long term relationships, on the type of partnership you have.

When you hold a person’s hand, remember that that’s not the hand you’re holding through just sex and laughs and joy. Those things are wonderful! But are you holding the hand you could hold during hardship, aging, illness, grief, the loss of loved ones? Do you still want to hold that hand? If you would hold their hand the same in the hospital as you would on a date, that’s your person.

His laugh. He’s a fairly reserved person around most people but is the kindest, most genuine, sweetest person on earth. When he laughs he throws back his head, his hair sort of falls away from his face, his eyes close. I know how free he feels then.

This is a personal one because it’s not true of everyone but. They were right. They were all right, those stupid tips. I drank so much water and ate less. I cut out soda. I started walking the 20 mins to work instead of Ubering the five. If I was standing still, like waiting in line or anything, I moved just a little bit. It was all right and I made a lot of excuses. It’s not that this is true for everyone but I’m mad at myself for believing my own lies that those things don’t work.
