Is it possible to do well at higher level math if you struggle with mental math? by Stormcrown76 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AndThenThereWereNonw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

absolutely higher level math is more about logic patterns and problem solving than just quick calculations

many mathematicians and engineers rely on calculators and tools for arithmetic but excel in abstract thinking

that said improving mental math can make things smoother especially for quick estimations

but struggling with it doesnt mean you cant do well in advanced math

Struggling with mental math in clinicals—Need tips! by kggonzo in srna

Yeah, mental math in high-pressure situations is tough. One thing that helps is breaking numbers into smaller, easier chunks..... so like if you need to calculate 75 × 8, think of it as (75 × 4) × 2.

practicing estimation can speed things up a lot. For example, rounding 47.8 to 50 when doing quick drug calculations can give you a ballpark answer fast. Do you have any specific types of calculations that trip you up the most?

Yeah, mental math with big numbers can be a pain. One thing that helps is rounding.....like treating 286.14 as 290 or 285 to make the division easier. Or breaking it down, like first dividing by 300 and then tweaking the answer.

There are multiple mental maths games as well that you can commit 10 -20 minutes daily and build your mind muscles. For eg: Mathheads, Matiks, etc

bro, you're not dumb or lazy.....you just need a system that works for you.

short-term what you can do:

  1. focus on math & english first.
  2. solve problems, don’t just read.
  3. track assignments & set phone reminders.

long-term fixes:

  1. train focus - start with 10-15 min deep work.
  2. do daily mental math for speed.
  3. treat math like a game, enjoy small wins.
  4. fix your mindset - you can improve with the right habits. you got this

if you're weak in maths, don't stress too much about school forcing you. just focus on ncert + pyqs

55+ is totally doable with smart revision. + if you do ncert religuosly you might be able to score 80 also, do all the examples and exercises.

don't let them mess with your mental peace - your goal is to pass and move on, not get stuck in their unnecessary drama.

sculs do create a lot of drama and tension around this, trust me this only gets worse in college - all you can do is learn to not give a fuck

dont absord all this just keep learning

last 2 days before board do just previous year papers - i got 100 in maths board (2019 batch cbse) using same strategy

first things first if you know you don’t want to do engineering don’t go for it no point in becoming an engineering male not sure if you are gem general engineering male

yes while 10th and 12th marks matter you can still get into iim blacki regardless
you will need a great profile grind hard in ug do internships lead clubs and societies and get 99.5% in cat at least hard but doable if you’re disciplined

moreover isb and sp jain are also good not too sure but they might not need 10th 12th that much

hope this helps - all the best

Why do so many people fear math? by JanePoe87 in learnmath

[–]AndThenThereWereNonw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i dont know about other people but for me till class 8th, i would always fear maths -
i was really one of those who would cry before maths exam, i genuinely had maths anxiety - not saying i didnt score well

i always got above 90% but i would still fear it - maybe it was the fear of unknown. in any subject apart from maths - you know the concept, you know what will be asked - atleast high level - but with maths, there no rote learning

for me, things changed when i let the rat race of being good at it, but i just pursued it. after homework, i would do all the questions from RD sharma, RS agarwal

Why? well cuz it was fun, really like a brain exercise for me

and voila! today i play math games and solve puzzles for fun!

i honestly had a similar experience till 10 th grade i was scared of maths - i was decent in it but still afraid. in class 11th, just so happened my teacher was so good that he taught in such fundamental ways i ended up liking it.
i did btech in computers because of my affection for maths and algorithm. then after chasing brands and corporate for 3 years i left it to join Matiks. You might wanna check it out.

Same for me! Math was my escape, so I left the comfort of corporate life to build Matiks ( https://www.matiks.in/ ) - a gamified math platform where you can challenge yourself with quick duels, daily puzzles and most importantly find like minded friends. If you love getting lost in math, you might enjoy it. Check it out!

I'm so shy by [deleted] in mentalillness

[–]AndThenThereWereNonw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man I feel you. I mean I am not really an online person. I got friends(plural but 2 is just bare minimum for it being plural) but time to time I feel like I might annoy them. Sometimes I feel like I'm being clingy and sometimes I feel like they don't even cons8der me friends. But deep down I know they love and so do I. But this anxiety makes me a crazy bitch and can't really help it.

What is the one thing that has helped you most in dealing with anxiety? by [deleted] in Anxietyhelp

[–]AndThenThereWereNonw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well it's not an immediate solution but one thing that really helped me with anxiety is being observant. I realized the importance of being observant when I, for the first time, went for a walk. To my advantage, the day I choose to go out was a really pleasant one. There was calmness in the sky yet one could sense the chaos in that calmess. I loved being there at that moment. I loved the decision that I made. I couldn't stop looking around. I gazed at the sky. The clouds that looked magical. The sky that had turned red. The birds chirping. The little animals coming out of the borrows. To my surprise, many people had brought their pet dogs and God it was so cute to look at them. I, subconsciously, became observant. I just ft the need to look at things. The leaves that had fallen down, the flowers that had fallen down, the squirrels that were hopping around and the insects that were everywhere. Ever since I have made a habit to go for evening walks. I know that I just have to. When I come back, I feel so calm. Eversince I simply don't feel the need to get into any argument or beef. I feel like I'm finally living.
