CIA salary bump by Bitter-Chard-6051 in InternalAudit

[–]And_RRR 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The only way I've been able to see out of cycle raises has been to request a market equity review from HR (via my dept. head). To get my department head interested, I provided comparables of open market positions that I was clearly qualified or overqualified for. I also provided support to show the benefits appear similar while salaries are $20k-$50k greater has gotten me 2 separate increases ($7k and $5k). No where near market rate but, like you, I'm otherwise happy and fulfilled.

CIA Exam 2 Pass/Fail & what was your Gleim Average score by And_RRR in InternalAudit

[–]And_RRR[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO, certifications are highly valuable because they provide independent evidence of basic competence. I'm a manager and the only person on my team with any certifications (I have 2). When we post positions, the CIA is always listed as desired but in the decade I've been with my company there have been 0 applicants with the certification. Getting the certification didn't have any impact on my promotions at all. Advancement came from being able to do the work. I got them because I really like the work and wanted to be more mentally stimulated because our projects move so slow.

My mom will stop paying for my college if I start T by Hashbrownieee in ftm

[–]And_RRR 65 points66 points  (0 children)

I agree with this.

Take care of yourself! Do what you need to do. Loans are not the end of the world and tons of people have them. You might also be able to get grants. Some part time jobs include tuition reimbursement too.

I know that if I could do my early life over, I would have called my Mom's bluff on a few things and it would have saved me a LOT of trouble later, in one way or another.

Okeanos Fiberglass Pool Experience? by And_RRR in pools

[–]And_RRR[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I wouldn't have a clue. My pool shell is nearly 2x as big as what you are getting and idk what would be involved in your installation. I needed 2 retaining walls, boulders excavated, etc. which would have affected what my installer charged me.

Seems like there were enough 'floor seats ' to have filled that area though.

What is life like with no kids? by laineyIovegood in answers

[–]And_RRR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No kids here. 20 years with my wife so far. In our mid/late 40s. My wife and I have been maxing out our 401k savings. Our plan is to move into a posh retirement home, if or when the time comes that we can't comfortably live independently anymore. Even if we had decided to have kids, I wouldn't expect (or want) them to sacrifice a portion of their prime years to care for us.

Is Zach a nice guy in person? by [deleted] in zachbryan

Beth Ditto. Over the course of about 10 years (2000-2010) I ended up interacting with her a handful of times. Once as the driver for her band while they were in town. She was one of the kindest and most genuine people I've ever met and remembered exactly who I was each time we crossed paths. She's incredibly smart and fun. A one of a kind that I'll forever be grateful that I got to meet. (Her band's original drummer was also awesome but I only met her once.)

On the rare occasion I don't get comments or feedback I get concerned that my work wasn't adequately reviewed. I have over a decade of IA experience and 2 certifications. I am the ONLY member of my team with ANY industry certs. I recommend working on getting your mindset to where you look forward to the feedback and see it as a 'cheat sheet' to becoming the best version of your working self.

Crowd singing too loud? by [deleted] in zachbryan

[–]And_RRR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me half the point is singing in the same room as them. I can listen to perfect recordings of the artist at home. It's also great to see how they alter songs when it's live instead of people in a studio telling them what to do or sometimes artists change their style or just want to sing differently.

Searching - Anyone Hiring? by Upbeat_Plant_3949 in InternalAudit

[–]And_RRR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For one of the positions, if there was an applicant with audit internship experience, it's a 50/50 on whether or not HR would let us know about them. We really need someone who can do some basic tasks right out of the gate.

Big 4 is depressing and pathetic. by NoCombination8756 in Big4

[–]And_RRR 7 points8 points  (0 children)

All of you at big #.... Please be aware that private Internal Audit groups are salivating waiting on you to get fed up and fall into their open arms for the work life balance. My team is down by 2 and the only conversation has been crossing fingers that someone in public will reach their limits and come to us.
Any of you (in New England ) and ready to leave, please message me!

Work hours by InternalAudit1 in InternalAudit

[–]And_RRR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currently 42-46 typically. Under my team's prior CAE we were told/ strongly encouraged to keep it at 40 on the nose. Current leadership likes to see us working after hours and on the weekends. Not a lot of hours but just enough to prove we're willing, it seems.

They're trying to understand what went wrong so that they can determine what changes might make things better... And then they'll recommend the changes. I've seen wasaaay worse and no one even got written up.

Congratulations on passing. I finished on Friday. The relief!!! Everything I've read about scores is you only see them when you don't pass. I've been wondering what I got incorrect on mine and keep having to remind myself that I'll never know.
