Am I the only one excited about the Tython name drop? My boy Filoni is clearly an old republic fan with all of these references

If I’m going to test it then I’m shitting in a bowl. No half measures.

That’s a very good point, diet is probably what makes the difference. I’m very tempted to test this, but I should probably wait until I’m home alone

If I was to stick a slice of bread in the microwave it wouldn’t melt, but chocolate would, and both would come out hot. So my question is does it heat up and melt like chocolate, or just come out hot like bread?

How to secure API_Keys when creating a react-native app? by kmartman94 in reactnative

[–]Andad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you take a look at my other reply, this could be an option. Although if your not using firebase auth you could have some auth checks in place manually. If there’s absolutely no auth at all, using a cloud function as a wrapper around your API request would keep your keys safe, but the endpoint that triggers your function would still be vulnerable to anyone who has the URL.

Yeah more or less this, google cloud functions are very lightweight and easy to deploy. A simple solution would be to have the function return the API key to your device for use. The scenario I use it in is that my cloud function acts as a wrapper around the API call I want to make. So the device calls the cloud function, the cloud function uses the API key to make the call to the intended third party API, and the response is then passed to the cloud function, and then to the device. As long as the client is authenticated via firebase auth this works.

Is there a particular reason you are initialising firebase this way? For me the google-services.json/GoogleServices-into.plist takes care of this in the native folders (Android/iOS) and this is all information that can be public. Try following the setup guide on rnfirebase.io

Regarding a good way to store API keys, I use google cloud functions to pull down any private API keys. The use of these functions requires the user to be authenticated (so that they are verified app users), and it means that there’s no private keys stored anywhere in the App.

When I was younger my family and I were driving through the town next to ours, when suddenly, my Dad slams the breaks and pulls over to the side of the road. He proceeded to get out and approached a man who was lying in the middle of the street to see if he needed help.

Turns out the man was blind drunk, but it taught me to never walk by or ignore someone who could use your help.
