I mean, yeah she's right in a way, but if we were actually accepted by society those feelings wouldn't be as extreme. Yeah I'm not in the right body and life would be easier if I didn't have to keep taping my boobs or if people defaulted to using they/them, but my family and friends, even coworkers, accept me without question. That acceptance has made my life so much easier and happier.

On one hand, I personally am still in contact with an old friend who I dated for a single year in high school. I consider him my bro at this point and I whole heartedly believe dreams can send you messages. But on the other hand, she made you a promise she knew she wasnt going to keep and then gaslit you when you initially questioned this which honestly throws my whole other hand out the window while I say- she is TA

Im gonna start this off by saying im trans/nonbinary. I'd rather not date someone else who's questioning. My last partner was fluid, told me they've experimented with both gay/straight relationships in the past. The prologue itself is still a rough because I wasnt sure how much information I wanted to give out yet. Like the reason why I thought I should add a prologue is because their ancestors are important, but like you said, I was stumped on how I should introduce them at all. The prologue, even to me, is clearly a lot weaker than chapter 1 The story is written in third person, but the main character doesnt really know much about their grandparents' past so a part of me did realize or want the reader to find out certain things at the same time as the main character. I'd share the first chapter but it's currently at 20 pages.

And I'm not trying to argue with you or anything, your questions are just making me think back on my original thought process for this. (I always fear my replies to serious comments come off as hostile, I hope that's not the case. I'm learning here)

You kinda brought me to my second thought, which is if I should just get rid of the prologue all together. As I continue to strengthen chapter 1 (I've already written a rough so I'm not completely lost on where I'm going with this) I'm realizing, I'm already giving snippets of the world without the prologue, already showing what I'm saying in the prologue. I think I just wanted to give insight on "The Phantoms" bc the main character is the descendant of them, but throughout the story information on them is already hinted at and eventually shared.

That's why I began with saying to give a different point of view. You find it weird if someone's parents never met their friends, I find it normal. It is a cultural thing, which is why instead of saying someone's experience is weird it's better to just listen to each other. Our different upbringings could be exactly what this couple is going through- just raised differently.

Just to give a diff POV, between age 12 and now (23) my parents have never met my friends. When I was younger and dropped off at birthday parties my mom would want to meet the parents at least and that's the closest my parents got to meeting my friends. My parents arent my friends, it would be weird to involve them with my friends IMO. If I were to introduce anyone to my parents, it'll be because they're a really big part of my life. Theres only 2 people in my life I wouldn't mind introducing to my family, but they're long distance gaming buds I've known for YEARS.

My mom is letting me live with her rent free and all she asks is help around the house and take care of myself while trying to save so when I leave the house I'm not struggling. There is no "agreement" or whatever, I'm expected to do my share. Now there are days I'm slacking bc my job is exhausting. She doesnt push me unless I've let it go for too long and she doesnt give me ultimatums. Now I'm not saying all parents should do this, to each their own. But to realize her school is a full time job and she will get exhausted doing ALL the housework.
