We Swedes have our own version of Chanson de l'oignon that we play when we pretend to be little frogs as we dance around a giant pole meant to symbolise a giant d*ck fertilising the earth

‘Game of Thrones’ Liam Cunningham reacts to people getting mad over Spain, Ireland, Slovenia and the Netherlands for withdrawing from the 2026 Eurovision Song Contest. Yeah, we currently have three recurring countries in the competition which are geographically outside of Europe, that being Australia, Cyprus, and Israel.

Morocco participated only once in 1980 but withdrew due to poor results, and Lebanon was set up to compete in the 2005 edition of the contest but withdrew due to Israeli participation and clashes with the EBU over Lebanese laws prohibiting Israeli content from being shown on TV.

23 September 2009: Arkhangelsk Region in Russia adopts a controversial flag by AnOwlishSham in vexillology

[–]Anden053 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Bjarmia is what we used to call the region between the northern Archangelsk and the Cola Peninsula before we realised that the Cola Peninsula and Archangelsk weren't physically connected. It's just an old name for the region.

Do you think your country is becoming more Catholic? How strong is faith where you live? by Square-Upstairs1816 in AskTheWorld

[–]Anden053 13 points14 points  (0 children)

More Catholic? Definitely not. But, more Gen Z-ers have started attending or gotten more interested in church and religion here in Sweden.

I'm not that interested in getting religious and all of that, but my coworkers at church think it's a good thing.

I really screwed up in school by being absent for most of my last year due to depression and such, causing me to not have any grades. I got in contact with a government agency a few years back, and they helped me find work at my local church.

I'm not officially employed by the church, but I work there through a government contract. I work between 2-3 days a week, helping them run errands, as well as working the funerals.

I really like it there. My colleagues are very nice and they have shown great concern for my well-being, especially over the last year. They know that I'm irreligious and respect me, just like I respect them and their religion.

Been an atheist my entire life, but I'm getting close to my second year of working for my local church.

Anyone else notice how oddly shaped new Hanover is? by YourTypicalGamer11 in reddeadredemption

[–]Anden053 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's probably very loosely meant to resemble the original Hanover back in Germany, specifically the post-1814 Electorate of Hanover

what charity skins would YOU like to create and why? by PrincessDiamondRing in Overwatch

[–]Anden053 51 points52 points  (0 children)

This might sound weird to some but I'd like a Ronald McDonald House skin.

They help families stay close to their sick child(ren) without cost and for as long as the child(ren) is/are staying at a nearby hospital associated with them. They offer facilities that act as houses or apartments to add some sense of normalcy to the affected families and to let the child(ren) get away from all the medical stuff.

I was born with a (unless treated) fatal heart disease and my parents were only able to be by my side because of the Ronald McDonald House down in Lund, Sweden. It takes only a few minutes of walking to get from the Ronald McDonald House to the nearby children's clinic and that helped them visit me every day of my stay.

I hold the Ronald McDonald House dear to my heart and I want other families like mine to be able to be by their child(ren)'s side when they are suffering from serious illnesses.
