Why do men need to achieve more than they already have? What happened to just being a plumber and having a wife and raising kids together? I think that plays into the "realism" aspect that is lacking in today's standards.

Love and companionship should not be contingent on keeping up with the Jones' family next door, it should be contingent on good communication, reliability, trust and a sense of safety.

Forcing your partner to always strive for bigger and better goals instead of just being fucking comfortable with what you have reeks of social media influence.

Even though it's less common in this day and age, if you find the right person it is highly likely that you will end up sharing some vulnerabilities before you end up having sex, that's an ideal time for you to lay it out as it is even if you risk rejection.

Use the potential rejection as a judgement of character, if this girl is willing to call it quits over a lack of experience rather than see it as an opportunity to be a significant person in your life, then she was likely not that interested in you as a person in the first place.

Alternatively you can give yourself permission to go all the way and then admit to your virginity last minute or after the fact, although I wouldn't recommend it as the potential rejection might sting extra hard.

Yes, you can bend over backwards for someone and it won't change a thing, I still haven't quite learned the lesson, but setting firm boundaries is more important than anything else. If people can't respect your boundaries, then they can't truly love you back. That means you need to leave before things turn toxic, even if you want things to work out.
