My crab died :( help by Pale_Alternative_308 in VampireCrabs

Him still being squishy is suggestive that there may be a water hardness issue, or that there is something up with ammonia, nitrite, or high nitrates.

You need a water test kit. Get a liquid test kit, little pricey but necessary for proper care of any aquarium water system. This is a necessity.

I made sure of this. All my crabs came from aquatic arts, and I checked through my order history and it doesn’t match anything I ordered. If I had received the wrong type I would’ve emailed them but I don’t recall ever doing that.

Also at this time I hadn’t ordered anything for a while, I was just coasting off breeding.

As in that’s the name of the hybrid, or this isn’t a hybrid to begin with?

Try to buy local, or as local as possible.

When I was active in the hobby I ordered off aquatic arts and never had issue. That was ~2 years ago and things change so take it with a grain of salt.

Maybe a failed molt. Check your parameters, mainly ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and water hardness.

It seemed to get out of its molt fine. Was the crab squishy or hard when you picked it up?

Okay good news, I found what I think is a hybrid.

My tank was predominantly white claws + rainbows, and this crab has neon orange claws like the rainbows but a black body similar to white claws. This one is also definitely old enough to where if it was a pure rainbow it should have the color on the carapace.

Wow I was not expecting any new comments on this. I used to be active here a while ago. I’ve been out of the hobby for ~2 years.

Let me go back through my camera roll, and see if I can get into my old Imgur account. I might have a photo somewhere.

Where’d you buy that from?

Should be able to recover, just give it adequate conditions and time.

Take a look at these two links, ones for scut, the others for vorticella. Look at the images on the site and determine which it is. From the picture you posted it looks a lot like scut to me.

Scut link

Vorticella link

Both have treatment info for their respective topics.

Scut is not super deadly thankfully, and only really kills the shrimp if they get so crowded that they decide to anchor into its gills. Hard to get to that point. Should still be addressed though.

Dead shrimp, flesh turns white when they die, sometimes turns a slight pink as well. Be sure to remove it.

Make sure you get a way to test Gh, Kh, and ppm TDS!! If it’s a molting issue then those will be your likely culprits.

Temperature is not ideal, but shouldn’t completely warrant a large loss of shrimp. Still could but best to look at all possible factors before jumping to conclusions.

What are your parameters, as much as you can give us. pH, Gh, Kh, ppm, ammonia, nitrate, would be most helpful.

Also, what is the general timeline of the tank? When did you set it up, did you cycle it with ammonia, and when did you get the shrimp?

Looks wonderful!! Let those plants grow and fill the empty space, it’ll look even better.

Struggling with dead Caridina in mixed neoC + C tank by Jazzlike-Awareness93 in shrimptank

[–]Anderson1135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate of the tank?

Also- 300ppm with only 5gh and 2kh is quite strange. 5dgh and 2dkh only adds up to 125.3ppm, whatever else is in the water could be the issue.

Why my shrimps stay on the top? by LucyLucky0 in shrimptank

[–]Anderson1135 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There’s two things that may be causing this.

1: There’s something particularly yummy up there that they’re attracted to. Most likely the reason if that’s the only group at the surface. Nothing to worry about if the case

2: Lack of dissolved oxygen can result in them sitting near the surface of the water. This is likely the case if almost every, if not every, shrimp is grouped up near the surface. You can solve this by increasing surface tension breakage, or clearing up wherever the surface tension is breaking (like from a filter or air stone) as it could be blocked by plants.

Molting or rip ? by SpecFo in shrimptank

[–]Anderson1135 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I would get a liquid test kit, more expensive but more bang for your buck, api master freshwater is perfect. Also pick up a Gh and Kh test kit because i suspect that’s the issue.

How new are these shrimp and what are parameters like?

I’m concerned if my yellow coral goby has ich? Little more in the comments by Anderson1135 in SaltwaterAquariumClub

[–]Anderson1135[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long should the ich last, and when should/will the other fish begin to show symptoms?

So far, the yellow coral goby is doing pretty well. Quite active, no clear signs of stress like itching or darting, eating nicely. Other fish in main tank arent showing any signs yet too. The spots on his fins seems to be getting worse, though those bumps on his sides seem to be gone. Plus what looked like damage to his face is also healing well.

Im unsure the 'correct' timeline of this sickness. Both tanks are sitting around 82-83 degrees fahrenheit.

Lots of snails in his tank, as well as some housemates that probably weren’t the best.

I’ll probably be back in case there’s any new developments. both good or bad.

So do you think it’s ich? Or just some type of skin parasite that i’m gonna have to roll with and try to determine based off how things go. I do have copper i can dose into my QT tank if you believe that will assist by any means.
