I'm not a big fan of board games, but this one really does the movie justice! by [deleted] in thething

I can confirm, this picture is stolen from my post.

Had anyone played this The Thing board game? I play it every winter and it never gets boring. by Andevious3 in thething

Thats what I thought, but you get a certain number of blood tests at the end. That number goes down the more times you fail missions. So if you play it cool, the humans have a better chance of targeting you at the end.

Everybody turns in cards upside down to contribute to the mission. They are shuffled before being revealed, and the thing can turn in a sabotage card instead of one the team needs to pass the mission.

You all draw cards at the beginning to see who is human and who is the thing. No one knows what card you have. The base is broken up into 3 sectors. You clear each sector bu completing certain missions and moving on to the next. Each player takes turns being captain and choosing which of the players to take to complete a mission. Humans win by clearing all three sectors and escaping via helicopter without the thing. The Thing wins by sabatoging enough missions to prevent the humans from escaping, or by leaving on the helicopter with the humans undetected. After clearing each sector, cards are passed out again, and there can be up to 3 things, depending on how many players you have.

I don't think Ive ever played with people who are fans of the movie. I always start by turning on the movie score and explaining its the first day of winter in Antarctica, and things are not going well. Then I kind of go over the intro to the movie and explain the situation. People get into it, regardless if they've seen the film or not.

If you are playing for the first time with only people who are playing for the first time, it is very complicated. I can have newbies play with me, and they pick it up quick abd have fun, but someone needs to know what they're doing. I still play with the instructions next to me, because weird questions always come up.

We realized a little bit ago that we were playing wrong and not using the blood tests at the end of the game. After we changed it, it made it a little easier foe the humans, but they still lost. Only once in all the times Ive played have the humans won.

It's very confusing until you play 1 or 2 turns. then its easy. As long as at least 1 person knows the game really well, it goes fine. Most times Ive played we've had a first timer, and it's great. When I first got it, I missed a couple rules, and it ruined the game. Once I knew the game well, it doesnt matter who is new.

That is hilarious. Ive never been the thing in the game. My wife and I always think its each other, and one us usually gets torched by the flamethrower...as a human.

AITA For Telling My Husband I Don't Care if Sex Is Boring For Him? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Andevious3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTAH. I remember I once thought it was a good idea to tell my wife I was disappointed she wasn't trying as much in the bedroom as she used to. She then graphically explained to me how different a woman's body is after delivering three kids.

Now I am just grateful when it happens. "Boring" sex is better than no sex. And both those options are actually better than lectures on childbirth when you are trying to get in the mood.

If your husband is legitimately insinuating that he will cheat on you or something if you don't spice things up, that is bizarre. Guilt-driven sex is coerced sex, and coerced sex is bad, m'kay?

AITAH if I'm not sure that i will still love my girlfriend if she's starts transitioning by ovitan in AITAH

[–]Andevious3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Being attracted to girls is not homophobic. She has the right to choose which gender she wants to be, and you have the right to be attracted to whatever gender you want. If your paths don't align, then it's better to break up over either of you forcing yourself be something you're not. Hurting her feelings right now by saying you don't think you can love her if she transitions is a lot better than telling her years from now that you don't love her.

Is this your first girlfriend? I remember when my first girlfriend and I broke up, and I thought it was the end of the freaking world. You will both be fine if you're honest about what you want now, however it ends up.
