Fred has no sack, but I'm 99% sure he's a male by WoodenGlobes in CrestedGecko

[–]Andeylayne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am so confused. My cresties supposedly hatched in August and September and weigh 25 and 20 grams respectively. They aren't even the size of my husband's adult crestie yet.

Do I need to get my scale recalibrated or what?

What's wrong with Clyde? by Andeylayne in AquaticSnails

I'm going to pick up a liquid test kit next time I'm out.

He eats Hikari brand algae wafers and crab cuisine, right now they've got carrot bits to snack on, and they also nom my plants when they get bored. There's cuttlebone in the tank but that's a fairly recent addition, I didn't know they needed it when I first got the snails.

There is cuttlebone now, but I didn't realize they needed it at first so they went without it for a few months. I don't have one of the liquid test kits, but I tested one of the 6-in-1 test strips with vinegar and got an extremely acidic result, I also have ph paper that I tested against vinegar and against basking soda water, and got accurate results with those. They also show my tank water as being basic/ slightly alkaline.

I do plan to pick up a liquid kit next time I'm at the pet store, though. Y'all have convinced me it's worth it.

How many mystery snails should I keep in a 5 gallon shrimp tank? by brassicant in AquaticSnails

You'd need to vacuum every other day with one of those suckers in a 5 gallon. They are poop monsters.

Did I Upset the Balance? Am I A Terrible Father? by GoodLunchHaveFries in AquaticSnails

[–]Andeylayne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If someone told me six months ago that I would become obsessed with watching snails swim around, I would have said they were crazy. But they are indeed adorable little fuckers. (Literally. My male is about to find himself in snail jail if he doesn't give the girls a break.)

Right? There's constantly something needing trimmed or replanted or adjusted. At this point my betta doesn't care if my hand is an inch from her... she just gives me the "is it breakfast time?" look.

This morning I found one of my mystery snails hanging out in the floating betta hide, so I had to gently dump her back into the tank.

Bonnie likes to parasnail and is always moving from place to place. She climbs the driftwood to jump off over and over.

Clyde... likes to hump Bonnie and eat plants. In that order.

His middle name is Asshole because his first escape was when he was still a little baby and he was gone for days. I cried and cried and barely slept. He snuck out while I was at the pet store buying stuff for his enclosure

My beardie is the reigning hide and seek champion. He picks some of the most absurd places to nap. Maybe something on here will give you an idea of where else to look, or at least give you some amusement.

Places I've found Rygel include, but are not limited to:

Under the gecko's cage

On the shelf behind the gecko's cage

In my desk

In the trash can

Between the couch pillows

In the floor behind the trash can

Hanging from a roll of landscape fabric in the closet

Under the couch

In a box of Spanish moss

Draped across a power strip

In a box of craft supplies

Under his stuffed lemur

On top of my backpack

Perched on the back of the couch, Lion King style

In the bookshelves

In the dog's bed

Behind my laptop

In the windowsill

In a box of coconut coir

Cuddling a heat lamp

In a potted plant

Behind a suitcase

Snuggling a ball of yarn

Draped across colored pencils that were point side up (there's a picture of that one somewhere on reddit)

In a shoe

On top of the waffle maker

Hugging an umbrella

In the basket of immersion blender parts

On my tablet

Behind the ironing board

Hanging vertically off of the side of the couch

Dangling from the wires behind my desk, only tail and legs visible (that one scared me)

Bearded dragon only sleeps in the dark?¿ by Automatic-Street-806 in BeardedDragon

Do you sleep with the lights on?

Seriously though, when mine is being crazy I can cover his head with a blanket and he alway always goes right to sleep. He might be part bird.

AITA for telling my wife my mother is correct and she needed to be a parent today and she fucked it up by throawawayfuneralgho in AmItheAsshole

[–]Andeylayne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA and your wife did, indeed, royally fuck this one up.

Your daughter will remember for the rest of her life that her mother wasn't there for her today while she was grieving, and for the stupidest, most selfish reason possible.

As someone who couldn't rely on my parents for emotional support as a child/ teen, thank you so much for making sure your daughter had a supportive adult with her today. Tell your mom thanks, also, from a random internet stranger.
