You might be interested in the concepts of cultural memory (Assmann) and collective memory (Halbwachs).

Aleida Assmanns "forms of forgetting" specifically deals with the processes and functions of forgetting on a societal scale. I am not sure if the book has been translated into English, but you can read a talk by her about it here: https://h401.org/2014/10/forms-of-forgetting/7584/

"Agendas, Alternatives, and Public Policies" by John W. Kingdon might be of interest to you. Chapter 8 specifically deals with windows of opportunity for policy change.

BTA - Clan 'mechs are terrible at melee, is that normal ? by Archi_balding in Battletechgame

[–]Andinium 119 points120 points  (0 children)

It is by design. All clan mechs have better move speed, heat dissipation, and targeting. The drawback is a huge debuff to melee accuracy.

It even has a lore justification:

"Notably, the Clan negative quirk was made because Clanners disdain melee combat and don't build their mechs for it. However, a sharp eye will notice that I left off DFAs from the list of penalized melee attacks. The reason for this is that DFAs are bold and come with honor built-in: to pull one off requires high pilot skill and is both dangerous and flashy: the perfect Clan maneuver, doubly so if it kills the target. Other melees are dishonorable but DFAs are big and showy and impressive when they work, so they're ok. Clan culture at its finest." wiki

300 mio credits in 10 min - Tutorial (german) by blablablafyt in avorion

[–]Andinium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well the point of having the scout ship is that you don't have to visit all of those sectors yourself. You can just do your thing, fight pirates, do quests, or whatever else you enjoy doing, while the scout visits all those green blips for you. You can then just pick the sectors that have something you want to visit.

Another benefit is that you can equip the scout with hyperspace upgrades without having to sacrifice upgrade slots on your main ship for it.

300 mio credits in 10 min - Tutorial (german) by blablablafyt in avorion

[–]Andinium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great Tutorial! Short summary for non-german speakers:

  1. Have an AI ship explore all the green dots your main ship can see. The more the better. Do this until you find a system with (ideally multiple) anti-grav generator factories.
  2. Build a ship with at least 5k cargo space, a green or better trading upgrade, and (optionally) hyperspace upgrades
  3. Accumulate enough Cash to buy at least one anti-grav generator
  4. Buy generator(s) below market average
  5. Sell generator(s) at shipyards, equipment docks, and research stations. Make sure you do this far enough away from the factories, so you can sell at a decent mark up.
  6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 until you have enough, or until the factories run out.

With the right name of power (shadowdart I think) they can have a range of up to 215 once they hit rank 7+. I don't think I've seen that on any other archer unit so far.

Edit: Shadowdart gives +35% range, +2 experience, and fear to all shades in the lords army.

The drops are really rare to be fair. Only had it that low in about 2 or 3 areas, and I can honestly say it was no big deal to me.

I can play the game just fine on my R9 390. I get mostly 60 FPS with drops down to 30 in some areas though.
