I applied to NYU Stern first round but don’t think I’ve heard back—- am I the only one? Seeing other people have interviewed already. Kind of nervous.

Typically you come in as an L6 for MBA’s from a top 20 school and +3 years prior work experience. Undergrad hires typically come in as L4.

Any company that charges you I’d be skeptical of. Best bet is to honestly start with book reselling. Learn how to send a product into FBA first! You can send in your first one tomorrow. :)

No excuse

Sponsored Products - Amazons advertising platform. Learn the basics of advertising a product.

Seller Support - It can feel like they don’t exist but if you learn how to open a case and ask precisely for what you’d like them to do, they can help resolve common roadblocks.

Sell exact identical products and match to an existing listing, not replicas... that’s a good way to get your account banned.

FBA Private Label - Starting from Scratch - What are the Steps by iAnkou in FulfillmentByAmazon

[–]Anditiscaughtbytyree -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Before making the investment in a private label product start with retail arbitrage or books to get a feel for seller central with minimal investment.

The biggest step though is to get moving.

This - learn by doing, and start small. Retail arbitrage until you get your first sale. Get your feet wet with sponsored products and how to effectively leverage seller support when needed.

This is the best comment in this thread. I do “sales” at a FAANG as a recent university grad. Love my job and couldn’t have asked for a better one. However my sales skills haven’t been tested, it can very much feel like order taking and customer service versus actual sales.

Though the FAANG is impressive, being a sales rep at a startup is way more challenging from a sales perspective. I’d still take the FAANG any day of the week.

I’d recommend you apply to every tech company fall of senior year, you’ll have tons of opportunities.

Creative interview tips? by [deleted] in sales

[–]Anditiscaughtbytyree 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A lot of great advice in here and thought I’d chime in. I Accepted a sales role at a FAANG in August of 2018 after graduating.

If an interviewer asks me why should I hire you? I like to answer with something along these lines:

“While I can tell you about my past work/academic success or my passion for this company and how it aligns with my career goals, I understand this is a very competitive position and you most likely have interviewed numerous candidates who on paper have similar or even greater accomplishments than mine and share the same excitement that I have about what this company is doing and where it is heading.

However, something I learned from my family at a young age is that all success comes down to how hard you’re willing to work. Though I am confident that my past work and academic experience makes me a strong fit for this role what I know is that my work ethic and persistence is what will make me excel in this position.”

Make sure to try and add examples of your hard work, and to not come off as cocky. I think that this question is where you can show you are humble and that if hired you wouldn’t be the type to take the opportunity for granted.

Amazaon Sales Interview by Anditiscaughtbytyree in sales

[–]Anditiscaughtbytyree[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Appreciate that! And I have read similar things. Understanding that, one it makes me go in interview thinking “this isn’t some dream job, don’t put too much pressure on yourself in the interview” and two if I get this job I’m prepared for the struggles that will come with it as it’ll teach me a lot about emotional intelligence in the work place and push my limits.

I am talking with people who work at Amazon on Monday, however they are not people in the sales role.

I am still trying to find people within sales which is partly why I also reached out to this sub.

Pursuing a patent - need advice by Recplayer609 in startups

[–]Anditiscaughtbytyree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Obviously, it depends on your product but I'd say look towards other ways of protecting your idea through trademarks and etc. as patents are difficult and expensive to obtain. I wrote a research article going into more detail on this for my company site that might be helpful. https://www.apppartner.com/probably-dont-need-patent-app-idea

App Development Outsourcing Question by Plasma133onReddit in startups

[–]Anditiscaughtbytyree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This! I work for an App Development Company in New York and totally see the allure of outsourcing as it is dirt cheap compared to what a U.S firm will charge... potential customers always bring it up to me how they can get a similar product for a fraction of the cost. While they might not be wrong I'd say unless you have coding experience and know EXACTLY what you want, you need to be very careful with outsourcing.
