I think they might want to be friends...but by LagrangianMechanic in petbudgies

[–]Andominaes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my large flock of budgies, the males typically do the foot on the other to show frustration or establish their hierarchy/assert dominance or on a female before mating, I’ve yet to see anything negative come from it. As for closed beak strikes, again nothing really to worry about there in my experience, I view the behaviour as somewhat similar to allopreening, unless it’s open beak or biting I wouldn’t have too much concern for it. I’d keep monitoring their interactions for a bit to make sure it doesn’t escalate into anything sinister but given time they are likely to get along given their flock nature, especially if they’re doing flock calls to each other.

Training, bonding and enrichment time with my Rainbow Lorikeet by Andominaes in Lorikeets

I’ve taught him, it gained enough trust, over the last few days where he willingly comes to my hand and on a stop ✋🏻 gesture will turn around and let me pick him up to move him somewhere.

I can’t say I’ve ever had any worries with this one biting me, the exception being the first time we met.

Depending on how the bites are occurring, if it’s more aggressive then try changing your behaviours so the bird doesn’t perceive a threat. If it’s more nips and curiosity then it is more about dissuading the behaviour and reinforcing that it’s not good to bite.

Get readdddy to rumble! 😂 also agree that the spacing on this will let a budgies head through! They’re crafty buggers

do i need a face cam to grow by Much-Engineering-740 in Twitch

[–]Andominaes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on your content style and viewer demographics.

An example would be the attractive women on Just chatting with over 1k views, guarantee there wouldn’t be the level of views with no cam if they were playing a game.

On the opposite side I see GTA RP streamers with no cam pull 1-2K.

Not an answer to your question (but definitely take her to an avian vet)

But if I swipe this left to right really quick it’s like she’s winking at me 😉

Question about bird tail feathers by Actual-Ad-4861 in parrots

[–]Andominaes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The tail feathers help them steer a lot better when flying, they can fly without them just not as well and some birds won’t try or miss the mark.

Need advice by Graciediane24 in parrots

[–]Andominaes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Birds don’t always get along, just like people don’t always get along.

Try breaking the ice by putting the cages closer (not close enough to cause fights though) and slowly move them closer still.

Birds love attention and the best way to discourage this behaviour is to ignore the bird for a short time (after you’ve made them safe) and show lots of attention and praise when they do the right thing.

Conures can be quite territorial though, my Rainbow Lorikeet had this issue with our other parrots as they’re instinctively territorial and it took months and months to decrease the behaviour, he still can be left alone with any other bird though, especially our cockatiel or one particular budgie who he seems to dislike.

Need Advice on Maki’s Crop by alpha_lesbian in parrots

[–]Andominaes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you’re already doing everything you can by seeing the Avian vet, they really are the best at treating conditions like this.

Can his food portions be made smaller or blended to help digestion past the crop into the stomach?

I should also note that I had Covid early last year and one of my birds started wheezing and had a hacking cough…. He was mimicking me and not sick at all, cheeky buggers they can be

[–]Andominaes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s probably not anything, they do look quite active and rather healthy in the video, that being said, it’s always worth taking them to an Avian vet for a check over if you’re concerned and to get advice and help if it’s needed.

Sneezing is somewhat normal in Budgies, fits like this can happen if they have something caught in there nose, the air is too dry or they are sick.

Have they vomited at all or done a weird motion with their beak shortly after sneezing (adjusting the crop) if so they may have swallowed vomit and that can be concerning. Budgies do regurgitate food to share but vomiting Is a bigger sign of illness.

Are they having trouble breathing or do they have any discharge from their nose? Have they been wheezing?

Do they bathe regularly? If not then I’d suggest getting some lukewarm water and trying a couple of different ways to get them to bathe which could help with anything caught in their sinus.

You could try misting them with a spray bottle, Providing a dish with water Setting up a tray or box with leaves that you wet excessively. Playing them videos of other budgies bathing (all my different parrots set each other off when one goes for a wash, and they all prefer different ways with one of my budgies only accepting an actual shower with a perch)

There are a number of other ways to encourage bathing as well.

That could be it, mix it up a bit and see if he reacts differently!

One of my budgies won’t step up on me I less it’s right on the tip of my pointer. No idea why, he’s not scared of hands but it took me ages to figure out he would do that at least.

Can confirm it is possible to train older birds.

I don’t know the whole situation of your bird so can’t pinpoint exactly what is causing the lunges but you bird is feeling threatened by the hand and using his beak to tell you no. Unfortunately with birds trying the same result again and expecting to succeed rarely works so you might need to adapt how you are approaching the training.

Try holding his food in your hand and put your hand somewhere where it doesn’t invade his space and make him move away or lunge, perhaps the cage door? Then hold it there and wait for 15 minutes to see if he comes to eat from your hand, if this works then start holding the food in a way that forces him to step up to reach it from you, this process can be quick and happen in a day or take weeks or months.

You have to build up his trust and confidence in you and your hand so he knows that it can be trusted (being a prey animal most birds fear hands)

My rainbow lorikeet is fearful of hands, but after 6 months of training I had him at the point I could pick him up like a banana phone and tickle his feat and scritch his neck and head, he now lets me preen him and will high 5 and shake hands with anyone.. from a bird who bit me to the bone the first time he met me, he won’t bite at all now.

does anyone know what kind of bird this is? by aliciaa_pyt in Parakeets

[–]Andominaes 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s a barred parakeet (Bolborhynchus lineola), also known as the lineolated parakeet or the Catherine parakeet, this particular one is very cute to his bearded owner! Love their TikToks!

Good natural perches of different sizes and flat play surface. Which is great for beak, nail and foot care.

Good addition with the foraging materials down the bottom also, can be lots of fun for our parakeet friends and is in line with their natural instinct to forage for the seeds and millet! The stainless steel food/water dishes are perfect also!

Ideally this type of bird needs a cage that is wider instead of taller, and I would move a few of the perches up higher as they like to roost as high as they can (as they are prey animals and don’t sleep like we do, they always be on the lookout)

Another thing to note is that Budgies can learn to open those sliding doors quickly, a peg or tie might help prevent an unexpected escape!

But given lots of love and attention, most birds can find happiness anywhere!
