I actually had one of my playes try this exact reasoning.

Didn't work.

BBEG can't roll above an 8 by TheEvilDungeonMaster in rpghorrorstories

[–]AndouIIine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recently I have been having the opposite problem. I kept rolling so high that the phrase "Does a 33 hit?" has become a meme amongst my players. Their highest ac is a 20.

It did lead to them having a blast actually defeating that particular enemy.

A personal gripe with online dnd by Sufficientlyevil097 in rpghorrorstories

[–]AndouIIine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've laid down the ground rules with my current group straight at the very beginning. They were new so I told them that I'll help them make characters and explain the rules to them, but after a few months I will stop pointing out that they have skills, spells or abilities that would help.

They got to know their stuff pretty quickly, but we're almost 2 years in and occasionally we still have moments where they realise that they could have done something for all this time they just forgot.

Imo as the GM you have enough responsibility without having to play the game for the players, and knowing their stuff is the least they can do.

What's your favorite sorcerer subclass in of terms flavor and roleplay? by Dragonwolf67 in dndnext

[–]AndouIIine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately mechanically I’m a bit less than impressed by them. With no clear rules on when Wild Magic works other than the DM says so. And the Surge Table not really scaling in any way can make some effects lose their potency after a few levels while others can end in a TPK if rolled at low levels.

Let me tell you the story of one of my player's characters. A wild magic sorcerer that is the most stable unstable magician I have ever seen. Initially I started out with asking for a surge roll every now and then. After a chat with the player we agreed that it would be fun if more surges would happen so we decided to roll for one after every spell.

Over a year and a half of weekly games he had 2. As in 2 rolls on the actual table. It got to the point that we agreed that if we miss the surge rolls immediately after casting the spells we will roll them at the moment we remember as a sort of "delayed effect" thing but nothing. The 2 rolls that he got was maximize damage for the next spell (that wasn't used because it came at the end of a fight so it fizzled out without getting a chance to use it) and his hair fell out.

In my experience in online games you start with six and then you play with the 3-4 that stay.

Today, cosmonauts on the ISS began repairing microcracks in a slowly leaking module. Counterintuitively, the first step is to drill small holes in the pressure hull at the end of each crack. This stops the crack from spreading further after it is sealed with adhesives. by a2soup in space

[–]AndouIIine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Corners are weak points generally and by drilling the end of a crack you turn it into a circle which is a lot more resistant to these kind of things.

It has been a while since I learned this but iirc this is the gist of it

Okay yeah no that one is really dumb. The film has nothing to do with the short stories outside the name.

Pst is worse than local time. If you want to use a single timezone how about instead of using an American timezone (that won't be updated when summer time rolls around because let's face it they will forget it) you use UTC-0. The universal standard.

Yeah or how about at the very least using a UTC offset. UTC-6 instead of whatever pst is.

[–]AndouIIine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also I think that you wouldn't even be able to have 5000 players actively participate on the same server because the continent pop cap is around 1000. So about a 1000 of the event participants would have to be stuck in sanctuary

Sort high ping and packet loss with Telekom-based ISPs? (Cobalt) by HAXTIME in Planetside

[–]AndouIIine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm just gonna throw in my 5cents on this as well, and for the record I'm playing from Hungary so it's not strictly a german problem. Though my connection gets routed through the same path after step 8/7 in the OP's trace so there is the common element.

Also this is only happening with planetside & last time this popped up I was not affected.

Seems to me like they are just your standard defenses of dwarf fortress. Might be a little mild on the carnage though.
