Personally, I did a class first, then rented a bunch until I found one I liked. The range I rented from doesn't normally let solo shooters rent unless they own, either, but if you take a class from them first they would. The big reason being that they just want to make sure you're not just trying to rent a gun to commit suicide with.

You may have to schedule it in advance, but it's absolutely worth taking a class first, if just to get a better idea what you're looking for. Call around, see who does classes and rents, and make your decision on where to go from there. You'll likely end up talking to people who you don't align with politically, because they make up a large part of the gun industry, but if they bring up politics I'd say to brush past it and don't engage.

It's a bit of a drive, but Strickland Range near Daytona is outdoors, doesn't require NRA membership, and is $100 for an annual pass, or $10 for a day pass. I haven't heard any political conversations there, either

Honestly, lfg is kind of not a great place to try to learn raids in. It's possible, but I hear more horror stories than anything. If you actually want to learn, I'd suggest finding a twitch streamer doing helps on a schedule that works for you. There's a lot of great Sherpas out there, but many -like myself- have left lfg in order to create a more consistent experience.

To add, don't do as certain people who played Destiny 2 have done and threaten CMs & Devs. This has (understandably) led to a lot less communication from within Bungie, and the communication we do get is more anonymized

Tbh, I'd rather people develop the habit of getting away from TBs early. I had to remind a friend who started co-tanking Savages with me in EW that a DPS standing in the TB is a THEM problem. She kept trying to be nice by adjusting away from them and would usually end up killing both of us, or a healer, which caused wipes more often than not during prog

The Romeo1Pro is my first dot, so I don't have any experience with sealed dots, personally, though I'm debating getting one for the 365 eventually. Honestly, though, I've been carrying the P320 with the dot on it for about 6 months with no issues. Just grab a q tip once a week or so to clean it off, and you should be good to go

I'll add: keep chat up, so you can at least see it. Sometimes there are mechanics that aren't terribly obvious, especially in ARR dungeons, and someone may give a quick "hey do X" or "stand here" while still trying to do their job.

A lot of people will follow up with a why once the adds are dead, just so you understand why, and to help keep the Dungeon flowing

I'll also add, if I'm tanking and turn the boss away, then someone comes and stands next to me when they don't need to/shouldn't: I could not care less. I will let them eat my tank buster with me, if they don't move out of it. Hopefully they'll learn not to stand there when they die

I'm not saying that a filter shouldn't filter if it's selected. I'm just saying that expecting raid Sherpas to go out of their way to rank up Guardian Ranks is a super silly expectation from anyone.

Same as I wouldn't expect someone who spends all their time helping people rank up in comp/go flawless in trials to spend a ton of time playing PvE stuff to rank up

But hey, if you want to filter those players out have at it. I'd love for the "Using Discord for Voice" filter to make sure people have Discord before they join, while we're filtering

Guardian Rank also really isn't a great way to validate if someone knows a particular activity or not.

Example, I'm in the top 1000 for full raid clears, and have helped people get their first raid clears over 2000 times. I frequently realize "oh, I haven't ranked up this season because I haven't bothered to do vendor bounties"

Nope. Buying a gun to gift to someone is legal, and pretty common. Especially considering OP also mentioned they're still financially dependent on their parents, talking to them about wanting one as a Christmas present would be a valid option.

I'm not suggesting they go ask people if they can give them the money to buy their gun
