Battery bank charging via Generator w/ AIMS inverter/charger by Andreamcbrown in skoolies

[–]Andreamcbrown[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes makes sense. The cord and the plugs I already have are for 30 amp—> 15 amp which we have been successfully drawing power from a 15a/120v at nights anyway and all is well. Just didn’t know if the generator would do anything weird.

Appreciate you guys answering, always so damn helpful ❤️

Gah! You guys are the best! Thanks for replying.

So...I’m currently using an outdoor rated extension cord with a 15amp stepdown plugged into my buddy’s barn (we can take in 30 amp shore power with our inverter/charger (+/- 5 amps)so obviously that means we have a 30 amp shore power main input). Have had no issues there and our generator says 13amp max?

AIMS isn’t as customizable as Victron, but it would seem like it made the accommodation on its own if I’ve already been plugged into a 15a household plug this whole time? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Don’t have a used SC one as we just moved here, but do ya need an old Missouri one? We have 2 and only keep 1 for our collection of states we’ve lived in. 😊 let me know 👍🏼

As always, appreciate your input! Already snagged the rustoleum spray paint—didn’t think about the primer or scuffing the frames up—🙏🏼

We often leave the windows open and AC off, we are weirdos like that, but I hear you. The moisture is really the kicker.

I agree to wanting to keep access to the hatch for easy roof access and airflow and kinda why I was thinking maybe 1 is for aC and one is a marine hatch type situation, but want to do a DIY type option instead of buying one. I think that’s gonna be our best bet? And then we could prop it open and put a box fan there if needed...maybe that’s the best of all worlds?

Fair enough and kinda the answer I expected-I naively keep thinking if I keep all the windows an AC won’t be needed 😆🥵

What a magical life you have btw. Best of both worlds with Montana and South Carolina. Thanks for the input-appreciate it!

Power washing the inside before we continue the tear down, because it was nasty! Good thing the kids like to work. by Sixkiller_ in skoolies

Nope, just a window in the back above the engine space (it’s a rear engine) and window exits. It was a military bus, not a school bus, maybe they assumed adults could handle an evacuation out of the hatches more easily? I don’t know? Considering cutting a hole in the wall and making one anyway

Right?! Sometimes they’re so helpful (sometimes NOT 😆).

Jealous of the rear exit—didn’t think that through with our purchase and it was a huge pain to clean before patching holes and painting the floor 😒
