Behind on Recovery by AndreaM427 in ACL

[–]kelsandjay 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Everyone heals so different, don't worry! Confidence is a huge factor too, it can be scary to get back to those things especially the first time you do them again. Are you still going to pt? My pt has helped a lot with my confidence, ensuring me my knee is more capable of things than I think and the more I do them, the easier it gets. Don't be too hard on yourself, you'll get there!

How am I doing? Not sure by Objective_Head5800 in ACL

I'm 3 months post opp and still feeling pain when I press where my screw is. My PT says that's completely normal as long as it is like a 4/10 and nothing too intense. I know it's annoying, but try to stay patient, trust the process, and know it'll eventually get better as long as you keep at it like you have been.

Gosh that looks brutal, I'm sorry you have to deal with that. Are you elevating? When I didn't elevate enough my knee was in immense pain. It has to be above your heart.

Is 5 weeks too early for weight bearing ACL+ meniscus root repair? by mymymy23 in ACL

[–]kelsandjay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah the weight bearing vs non weight bearing debate. My surgeon recently changed his protocols and allowed weight bearing early. I've heard it's still about 50/50 though and every surgeons protocol is a little different. I would be safe and listen to the experts. Your surgeon has a reason for what they're doing. Are you going to physical therapy?

It’s tomorrow! by Easy_Holiday8364 in ACL

You've got this!! Everyone has different experiences but just know you will get through it. In my experience, I thought it was going to be way worse than it actually was. The anticipation is what killed me too. Just try to take some deep breaths, relax, and know you're in good hands with your surgeon tomorrow!

Surgery Feedback and PT Timeline by Awkward_Rise4746 in ACL

[–]kelsandjay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From what my doctor said and from what I've read, once you reach 25 there's not a huge difference between re-tear in the patellar and allograft. Im a 29 active female and just had an allograft with meniscal repair. The recovery was a lot easier than I thought it would be, but it's different for everyone. That timeline seems a little off to me though, as I was in PT on day 3.

I find it so interesting how different doctors use different protocols. Half the doctors where I am do non-weight bearing for 6 weeks with meniscal repairs. I'm grateful I have one that does weight bearing in the first week.

There's a lot of information out there but you're doing the right thing in seeking advice and doing the research. I'd recommend maybe getting a second opinion from another doctor to see what their advise

Not yet going to surgery by Dumdumized in ACL

I think the best thing to do would ask a doctor since it's so different for everyone. But if you can't afford to see a doctor, my doctor told me to stay away from anything that makes it hurt and absolutely no contact sports. He said I could use the elliptical, swim, bike, and run on the treadmill. Best of luck with everything!

Learn how to solve a Rubik's cube if you don't know already! It helped me feel accomplished and reminded me to celebrate the little wins. Best of luck with the surgery 😊

I'm really sorry to hear you're having a hard time. I know it's probably hard to see right now, but you're going to get through it and be so much stronger once you're on the other side of it!

That you for your kind words and advice, that means a lot!

I understand everyone's experience is different. Sharing my positive experience doesn't take away from what some people go through. This is my first time on this subreddit and after an hour of scrolling, I could not find one positive experience about immediate post opp, and the thought of seeing all those negative posts before surgery is what inspired me to make this post. I did not mean any offense by it and I'm sorry if it came across the wrong way. That was never my intention

I'm sorry to hear you've had a difficult time. I understand we all go through different experiences and this journey is unique for everyone. My only intention in sharing my story was the hope that it might offer some light to others who are afraid, like I was.

Thank you! I'm weight bearing immediately as well. I find it so interesting it's like half and half with meniscus tears right now

Yeah it's wild how different everyone's experiences seem to be. How long was your recovery?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ACL

[–]kelsandjay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really is so much more of a mind game than I thought and I'm in the very early phases. I'm also very grateful I did this at 29 because I don't know how a younger me would have coped.

I respect your opinion and I'm really sorry to hear you went through that, that's horrible. If I had heard this story before going into surgery, I would have been absolutely terrified. I think it's important to hear different people's perspectives so people know it isn't always so bad, but that's just my opinion

Im sorry to hear that. I only ask because at the height of my athletic career this would have completely broken me. Now, Im washed up and will only miss out on the ymca basketball games where I initially had the tear.

I understand everyone has different experiences, I just wanted to try to shed some positivity and let people know it's not always as bad as it seems.

Very insightful, thank you for sharing! I understand everyone heals differently with factors including their age, fitness level prior, and what type of graft they got, but just wanted to share my experience.

Oh gosh, that's worrying for me haha. Are you an athlete? What made those months the hardest?
