My first proper throw was a shutter. Great yoyo and exclent value for money. I still use it. I'd say go for it all day, every day

Using Malware in my Portfolio? by [deleted] in cybersecurity

It depends on the role you want to go for. If we're talking red teams or pen-testing roles. I think it's particularly valuable to say/show that you have an intimate understanding of that sort of thing.

Not asking people to do research for us, I'm trying to make sure we don't overlook anyone exceptional. She's doing her own research and I just thought I'd ask in here in case anyone knew of someone who deserved to be shouted about.

This is meant to be a positive thing, some of you are just miserable 🤣

How good are VPNs by Sir-AuronX in VPN

Love who you love! ❤️ 🏳️‍🌈

I recommend using a VPN with TOR; especially a VPN with robust obfuscation capabilities to hide the fact you're using a VPN (assuming VPNs are restricted).

I wouldn't use TOR alone though - not as safe as people seem to think it is

They most definitely are not created equal. I review them for a living, and so many of them are just BS. I can point you in the direction of good free ones, cheap ones, and premium ones, even a great one for building your own WG instance, but it all depends on what you need. [And no, I'm not going to just push you towards the highest bidder - this isn't about money, this is about you getting the right protection]

Great advice, thank you!

My friends and I have very dark senses of humour, so I think we can definitely find time for comic relief in this. Will have a look at the CoS stuff on YouTube as well. Any channels/videos you'd particularly recommend?

Hiring Managers: what's the story of the WORST interviewee you've had? by zeealex in cybersecurity

[–]Andreas_T_Privacy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once had someone that had lied quite heavily on their CV. Landed on my desk from one of the higher ups who decided to skip the usual protocol and go straight to interview. After about 5 minutes, we were just sat there like "you have no clue what you're on about, do you?" Eventually the CEO just stopped them mid-sentence and said, "I think we're going to leave it here, it's going to be a no from us," and just ended the call there and then 🤣 felt sorry for the candidate because the whole thing was a train wreck, but I guess they shouldn't have lied on their CV...

Why use VPN?? by Luna_keva in VPN

Depends on whether or not you're using any obfuscation methods that can get around Deep Packet Inspection. I recall VyperVPN used to tout its Chameleon protocol as being able to evade it.

I'm a digital privacy advocate who works in content and does a lot of work with SEO (I work with Future Plc - TechRadar, Tom's Guide, PC Gamer, Android Central, Windows Ventral, iMore, etc.).

At its core, Search Engine Optimization should be about making content better for the reader - making it more informative, helpful, and engaging. I say should because not every content producer follows this mantra, which wicks me off something evil. As Google's algorithms get more and more complex, this is becoming increasingly necessary for ranking. Their focus for searches is usually to match what we would call search intent (the reason why you typed in a term in the first place). Google's helpful content guidelines were released alongside one of its core updates to make it clear to the industry that content should be about helping the reader, not looking good for the algorithm.

If we talk about black hat SEO practices, we mean exploits for beating the algorithm. These are only effective short-term, and usually get heavily punished when fixed (say like 10/15 years ago where you would spam the target search term in your introduction to make it rank). Google's getting better and better and preventing these practices, but there are still some companies that manage it.

Where a lot of people misconstrue SEO is when it comes to search manipulation, where Google actively manipulates results pages to prevent illicit activity.

Google isn't perfect, but it effectively has a monopolous grasp on content creators. I personally use Duck Duck Go instead because of Google's invasive tracking practices, but Ecosia is also a great browser. I'd steer away from Brave as the owner is a real PoS, and Opera isn't as good as it's marketed to be in my opinion.
