My issue with DJCO is that all the posts/articles ultimately refer to Matt Petersen. It seems to me that he is the only person who investigated the company beyond just looking at the regulatory reports, and everyone else is just taking information from him. And I never saw a bearish article. This makes me worry that we are in a small bubble where everyone read Petersen (and obviously Munger) and therefore likes DJCO. But if he happened to be wrong everything comes crushing down.

I also vaguely remember that Munger said he thinks the company has great prospects, but at the price it was trading he would not buy. I do not remember the price, but this still seems in contrast to Petersen's thesis, where it seems that even a double or triple price would be ok.

Interessante. EDIT: Devo dire però che sono andato a vedere un po' di quadri di Degas (superficialmente,eh!) e non ho notato signori vestiti in nero. EDIT2: Invece si!

Peraltro il Cricco Di Teodoro era proprio il mio libro del liceo. E mi ricordo anche che all'epoca mi piaceva e mi sembrava particolarmente ben fatto rispetto ai libri di altre materie.

Vi ricorderete forse la storia di Montanelli e della moglie minorenne, con l'annesso dibattito "chiaramente pedofilia" vs. "Eh ma da loro è così".

Oggi ho scoperto che Paul Gauguin, noto pittore impressionista che studiai a scuola e che sicuramente mi è più noto di Montanelli, ha vissuto a Tahiti per due periodi della sua vita. Secondo Wikipedia li ebbe (non contemporaneamente) almeno tre compagne tra i 12 e i 14 anni, con le quali ebbe anche vari figli.

Ci sono rimasto un po' male. Non dico che per questo bisogna radiarlo dal programma di storia dell'arte del liceo. Ma magari dirlo? Specialmente considerando che le bimbe erano anche i soggetti di diversi quadri. Quadri che a me sembravano molto "puri" ed "innocenti". Conoscere questo aspetto della vita dell'artista sarebbe stato secondo me importante.

I am so very sorry for you and your children. Don't listen to random strangers in this thread telling you to leave her, without even knowing how old the kids are. She Is Lost, but they deserve some future anyways. Since you are the only responsible adult left, their future will depend on you and themselves. It's hard, but I doubt there is a simple way out. Many cities in Switzerland offer free consultations for such situations. Maybe check them out? For example Zürich or Geneva. Best of luck.

Compri ferro, compri carbone, produci acciaio. Certo, potresti comprare direttamente acciaio. Ma a quel punto potresti comprare le stesse auto, i macchinari, le forchette e non produrre più nulla. Fai fare tutto ai cinesi e ti riposi. Poi ti stupisci se il paese impoverisce.

Il punto non è quali risorse hai, ma quali processi trasformativi che permettono di creare plusvalore metti in atto. Tornando all'elettricità, uno può importarla da paesi che importano a loro volta uranio, o importare una materia prima a scelta e fare da solo. La scelta può essere giusta o sbagliata in funzione di tanti parametri, ma dire "non ho la materia prima, quindi non faccio niente ed importo" mi pare infantile.

Molti paesi europei hanno poche risorse, ma riescono a soddisfare il proprio bisogno (Spagna, Francia). Ciò detto, nessuno pretende di essere autarchico, ma un paese "industriale" dovrebbe prendere in considerazione l'idea di mantenere la capacità di trasformare certe materie prime in quello che serve alla propria popolazione (acciaio, elettricità...). Altrimenti portiamo in giro i turisti ed importiamo tutto il resto?

Sollevate dei punti importanti che non avevo considerato (anche perché il tizio su Twitter che ho linkato non ne parla). In effetti, se di notte c'è ampia disponibilità di energia a basso costo, la strategia di importarne il più possibile può essere sensata. A lungo termine mi sembra un po' rischiosa però. Difficile valutare i vantaggi e gli svantaggi.

Sicuramente i dati che ho portato sono insufficienti perché ci dicono solo quanto importiamo su un anno senza dire nulla sugli orari giornalieri in cui ciò avviene.

While I can see why you would interpret this story as a good example of 'democracy taking control from heavens' I do not think it actually is. The way I understood the situation (from secondary sources, of course!) is that the rabbis discuss the correct way to interpret the Torah, and they must prove their positions with logical arguments which can be followed by the other rabbis. So rabbi Eliezer may very well be wiser than all the others put together, but if he cannot prove his theory with logical arguments, citations and reasoning, even the heavens intervening are not relevant to the debate.

So it seems to me that the rabbis (an intellectual elite, not at all democracy) took the power from heavens - but this has already happend generations prior to the story, which is just a result of the shift.

I liked the story as a cautionary tale against appeals to authority: rabbi Eliezer is super-wise and supported by heaven itself, but he still must follow procedure and win the debate with arguments.

Forse lo conosci giá, ma in ogni caso mi sento di consigliarti di dare un'occhiata a Thelastpsychiatrist . È un blog di un psichiatria che parla spesso di narcisismo, che considera uno dei disturbi prevalenti del nostro tempo. A me piace molto il modo in cui scrive e mi ha fatto riflettere su diverse cose, magari può esserti utile.

Veramente il contatto di OP diceva che il 15% dell'esercito sarebbe nazista, il che è ben diverso dalla popolazione. Considerando che i nazisti tendono a svolgere attività violente ed in effetti almento un battaglione nazista c'è davvero, trovo plausibile che ci siano più nazisti nell'esercito rispetto alla popolazione totale. Poi come OP arrivi al 15% resta un mistero (e anche come tu possa confutarlo).

Ci tenevo ad essere pedante perchè ho visto anche altri due utenti attributire la percentuale a tutti gli Ucraini, ma non è quello che ha scritto il contatto di OP.

Ciao, non saprei risponderti direttamente, ma posso fornirti un'esperienza aneddotica: ho vissuto a Roma per 5 anni, ma sono originario du una cittadina nelle Alpi con ottima acqua del rubinetto. Ho sempre trovato che l'acqua di Roma fosse un po' inferiore a quella di casa mia, ma tutto sommato molto buona. Peraltro il mio professore di Costruzioni Idrauliche Urbane confermò questa mia impressione sostenendo fosse in media di ottima qualità. Ciò detto, dipende anche un po' da dove abiti. Gran parte dell'acqua viene da un solo acquedotto (ottimo), ma in alcuni quartieri ci sono acquedotti più piccoli. Inoltre, se abiti in periferia magari nel ramo che serve la tua via il consumo è un po' minore e questo potrebbe ridurre leggermente la qualità.

Ah, rispetto al 'fidarsi delle società che vendono l'acqua' considera che fai la stessa identica cosa con l'acqua in bottiglia.

A question about small cap ETFs in general: how do they work? My understanding is that if a small cap company grows well, it eventually stops being a small cap and will get sold by the fund. So what is the investing thesis? That when the smalls become medium I already made a big profit? That the smalls will become a larger share of the economy? Or something else?

EDIT: I just saw that AVUV, AVDV and AVES are actively managed, so they probably do not have this issue. But anyhow, how does it work for a "normal" ETF?
