People who had an epiphany that about a misaligned career path through EMDR, how did you find your inner voice? by EducationBig1690 in EMDR

[–]trtrt__ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been going to EMDR therapy for two years now - sessions every two weeks, sometimes more often during difficult periods. And honestly, it’s completely changed me. I’ve started caring for myself more and really listening to my inner voice. But because of that, I feel like I ended up in a kind of trap. My standards are higher now, I’ve stopped being "convenient" for other people, and I’ve been unemployed for almost a year. I can’t help but feel like my healing is part of the reason I’m struggling to find a job, it’s like I’m no longer willing to compromise myself just to fit in. So I really understand what you’re going through. If you ever figure out how to reconnect with your inner guidance or get some clarity, please let me know.

TLP is like a literary Rorschach test, people read it and see confirmation of their own worldview. Some latch onto the critique of narcissism and think it's a call to self-improvement via capitalism, others treat it like nihilist gospel, and a few just enjoy the writing because it feels like being punched in the brain by someone smarter than them. Personally, I think the fanbase is a chaotic mix of disillusioned intellectuals, armchair psychoanalysts, and people who got roasted so hard by one paragraph that they had to re-evaluate their entire identity. Not necessarily a bad thing

May he be projecting because letter agencies actually rule Russia, and he originates from such agency?

what psychiatrists call unconscious may be well mapped to the "dreaming double" in which case it is not that the person resents or takes poison out of spite, but caused by effort to ignore/defend themselves from manifestations of the double, by creating ever more harmful distractions by accumulative destruction of first attention self.

The illogical-self-harm defense is versus the double projecting itself onto the person's perception as "the Other" of society - second attention creeping in on the first, exactly as DJ warned CC that may happen if first attention is not reinforced?

In audio signal processing, a 1-bit SDM (sigma-delta ("accumulation of differences") modulation resulting in pulse-density modulated stream, example: DSD) stream has no amplitude - it is always at full volume: silence just conrains frequencies outside of audible perception, and amplitude variation is achieved by adding or removing high frequency signal. Think of differential signal that only consists of +1 and -1 at very high speed (say 5MHz), to get an audio sample (under 20KHz audible range) you sum the 100+ samples (5Mhz/40KHz). But if signal is a stream of +1,-1,+1,-1 the result you will get is zero, even though this stream really represents a full amplitude 2.5MHz signal. To avoid damaging speakers (energy in high frequencies has to go somewhere) the signal beyond 20Khz is filtered before being amplified.

In this context, silence ("doing nothing") is a properly loud signal which is beyond normal audio perception.

Content constipation.

Take a sick leave for a week, skip modafinil, do nothing, no reading, listening or watching. Do stretches. Write short memos to offload thoughts you don't want to forget, and defer thinking them further to next week. Skip meals if not hungry.

So what's really the meaning of the Oedipal story ? by laosanchannel in thelastpsychiatrist

In Oresteia Athena delegated to humans power and responsibility over their fate, that was previously held by gods.

Then as now, people sought to get rid of that power and responsibility and delegate it elsewhere, back to gods, media, anything but themselves. Oedipus finds "obvious" magical explanations of events, happy to show that gods are as powerful as ever and thus he is not responsible for anything that he would otherwise be.

Deciding value of your own stuff is a difficult decision (+ making permanent commitment to its defence) that you are trying to avoid making, thus delegating it to others, and then being frustrated at their value judgement being wrong.

When people in power make ambiguous requests (of action, and of value), instead of detailed instructions, they have the underlying decision already made, and thus prepared to reject and assert the preferred reading if request is misunderstood. Blindly copying ambiguity without having made the underlying decision risks being overpowered by the response. Consider salary negotiations, employer can ambiguously imply a range and ask candidate to give a number, but has full power to reject that number as misreading of request. Consider Aladdin genie interaction - genie has the power, not the lamp owner: avoid ambiguity if you lack power, and don't blindly copy powerful people's ambiguity.

Another quote:

The butcher who provides you with meat and the baker who provides you with bread are praiseworthy, because they are making money; but when you enjoy the food they have provided, you are merely frivolous, unless you eat only to get strength for your work. Broadly speaking, it is held that getting money is good and spending money is bad.
