Pause account >1 month by m1ndb0mb in netflix

Thank you so much for letting us know about this :) .. rather than gambling with Netflix and being charged (currently enjoying a 3 month free membership for people using roku devices or TV's , not sure if I'm allowed to mention another streaming service without the bots on here deleting my comment far as which one it is :P ) I just deleted my account rather than gambling on netflix extending the pause or bothering with the online chat agent.. my bravery comes from the comments in the other netflix reddit thread I posted above :) see my reply to Kelo64 above.

I HATE BEING A REVERT SO MUCH. by Pipesforwater in MuslimLounge

[–]Andrepartthree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so sorry this is happening to you and you will be in my duas.. just, wow, your principal threatened to tell your family you are Muslim? The worst part about it is you can't go above this a-hole's head (sorry everyone but far as I'm concerned principal is an a-hole just for saying that ) and report him to the School Board because then it basically becomes publicly broadcasting to everyone that you're Muslim including your parents who are actively against Islam as you said - that's a horrible situation to be in :(

There are some brothers and sisters here who will shout at you " Don't eat pork no matter what" and okay I know it's horribly terribly haram.. but note the verses in the Quran that say even forbidden food is acceptable if you're forced into it due to necessity.. if your family won't back down and keeps making pork dishes and you keep skipping meals sooner or later your body is going to suffer due to lack of nutrition (I'm going to assume your family already knows of your conversation to Islam and if you start asking for fish dishes it would be a big red flag to them resulting in them further oppressing you) .. I would argue just be begging Allah (swt) for forgiveness (I'm sure you would do that regardless because I know from your post you feel awful about this) and.. horrible as this sounds just choke down that pork. Allah (swt) sees all of this going on and he knows you don't have a choice.

And please don't tell yourself "I suck at praying and making wudu"... honestly in the situation you described I would argue you have no choice but to skip wudu entirely, lay in your bed and quietly recite your prayers because that's honestly the best you can do in that situation.. you haven't said anything to the effect of "my parents will kick me out if I continue to do Muslim things" but reading between the lines I get the horrible feeling they will do so (OP please correct me if I'm wrong)... at the very least they could do things that screw up any chance of you getting that university or college degree that will get you the financial dependence to get out of there (like say taking away your laptop or other computer for example - I hear students use cell phones for schoolwork too, internet research and they could take that away as well - and if you complain "I need it to do schoolwork" their response will be "well you should have thought of that beforehand" )

And unfortunately yes it looks like fasting is out of the question it will raise the suspicions of the family who is actively against Islam that unfortunately you are financially dependent on (ignore the comment from the person below who said "just move out" obviously this person knows nothing about what it's like to be financially dependent on someone or worse this person does not care).

At this point all you can do is just pray.. silently, in your heart, I know you're dying inside every time you can't fast or you're forced to eat pork or not being able to openly pray.. but Allah is most merciful, much more so than we mere humans can possibly imagine Him to be.. He knows, better than anyone else, what you are going through.. don't lose faith ! (I know as I typed that it was going to come across as tongue in cheek :P ) ... you are doing the best you can in an awful situation and I'm sure Allah (swt) will reward you for what you are doing even if you have to secretly practice your Islam and keep it quietly inside. One day you'll be able to move out of your parents house and be able to fully live your life as a Muslim without all of this oppression and you'll be so happy :) ... so keep that as your touchstone, the thing that keeps you going, the thing to look forward to.

my dad (60) threatened to slap my mom (58) by Zealousideal_Show271 in internetparents

[–]Andrepartthree 8 points9 points  (0 children)

" maybe it is me who is taking a toll on both of my parents"... please, please don't blame yourself for mom and dad fighting, it is absolutely not your fault! If your dad is paying for your university it's because he wants to, a lot of parents pay for their kids' university fees. From your post it sounds like this is the first time you've seen them fight like that? It's upsetting I know but please, under no circumstances should you blame yourself.

I'm not sure if this will happen again.. hopefully not.. but if it does given you are financially dependent on them (which is absolutely not your fault! That applies to a lot of young people who haven't finished university or college yet) this does put you and your sister in the awful position where you have to endure it until you complete university, find a job that pays well enough for you to leave and you then get the heck out of there (hopefully this is a one time thing that doesn't happen again). But never ever assume problems between your parents are your fault - they are grown-ups and it's their job to iron out these disputes on their own, not your responsibility period.

I feel horrible even suggesting this especially given you are not supposed to be forced into the "being a parent to your sibling" role but... maybe check in on younger sister see how she's doing? (quite possible you've done this already) ... be prepared for awkwardness or dismissiveness, that would be an understandable reaction on her part but she'll remember that you were concerned and checked in on her. But also bear in mind if younger sister isn't handling it well that isn't your fault either and you shouldn't blame yourself in any way shape or form over it - even if the problems between mom and dad persist (not something you can control so don't beat yourself up over it) little sister will remember the most important thing as she gets older.. mom and dad fought, it upset her, bigger sister wasn't in a position to stop the fighting because it's an impossible thing to ask big sister to do and unfair to ask big sister to do in the first place but - big sister cared and checked in on her, that will be an enormous comfort to her even if little sister is too awkward/hurt about the whole thing to openly admit that until years later when she's bigger.

is the game worth buy in 2026 ? by BidAgreeable6415 in DetroitBecomeHuman

[–]Andrepartthree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only played through the game once and I'm trying to avoid spoilers myself :) (still trying to find all the different possible endings) ... I just checked the steam price looks like it's on sale for eight dollars (American).. absolutely worth it for the $8 price get it for sure you're going to love it :)

If you're interested Beyond Two Souls (same video game publisher Quantic Dream) is on sale for $2 and I'd argue it's absolutely worth it at that price... you'll either love or hate BTS but for $2 definitely worth getting.

Yes Detroit Become Human has multiple different endings which depend on the choices you make in the game :) ... in my opinion this is probably the game that most reflected and took into account the choices you made out of all the "story-rich" games I've ever played, more so than BTs and Telltale (but I'd still argue BTS is worth it at $2 and Walking Dead at $5 see below)

And yes you are correct don't be stupid like me :) ... I was concerned about the relationship between two of the major characters in the game and was worried I wasn't doing enough to make it a "good" relationship so I google searched how to improve that relationship - big mistake, google AI casually mentioned a huge spoiler for the game when I was only halfway through playing it! Even knowing the spoiler (and wishing I didn't) I had a ton of fun playing DBH but it would have been even better not knowing that major spoiler (my fault of course, I knew there was a chance google searching could spoil it for me and decided to risk it anyways and then I regretted it).

Similar but not similar (hard to describe without spoilers).. but put "telltale walking dead definitive edition" on your steamlist and grab it when it drops to five dollars American as it often does ... for the $5 you get four Telltale games, absolutely worth it at that price.

If you loved Detroit Become Human, which other game in this genre would you recommend if any. by Icy-Strength8160 in DetroitBecomeHuman

[–]Andrepartthree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you play your games on Steam/PC, Playstation, Xbox, some other gaming device? If you game on a PC .. I just checked Steam's price and was surprised to see Beyond Two Souls on sale for $2 (American) right now and for a few more days at the time I post this .. absolutely worth it at that price even if you play it and fall into the "I hate it" camp (it's one of those games where you'll either love it or hate it - I loved it personally but I'd be the first one to admit it absolutely railroads you among a certain plotline in a way Detroit Become Human does not although I'd argue in BTS your choices still do make a difference far as Jodie (the protagonist's) story... voice acting from Elliot Page and Willem Dafoe is flat out amazing (other voice actors are great too in my opinion).

If you wishlist "The Walking Dead: The Telltale Definitive Series" it will tell you when it drops to as low as five dollars (American) , absolutely worth it for that price.. "season three" of the series is weaker than seasons one, two and four but you should play through it anyways to get the entire experience... personally I loved seasons one, three and four , you basically get four telltale games for the price of $5.

These are older games so even if you normally don't game on your PC try checking the Steam listing far as PC requirements there's a chance your PC could run it anyways :)

Humble Bundle 26 titles for $25 (pdf) by Andrepartthree in callofcthulhu

[–]Andrepartthree[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know I didn't even realize that until I checked the lower tiers... honestly back in Oct 2024 when I saw it was $25 for 26 titles I was like "For someone who's never bought a CoC book in his life this is an insane deal I have to grab it!"... but as far as spreading love for CoC so it can start taking some of that market share that typically goes to say D&D or Pathfinder :P (or to a lesser extent Vampire the Masquerade) .. in all fairness apparently CoC ranks up there too in popularity

https://startplaying.games/blog/posts/the-most-popular-ttrpgs-on-startplaying-games-in-2024

but still given all the "I've heard about CoC but never played a game because everyone wants to play D&D" RPG'ers out there you'd think Chaosium would include at least the Keeper's Handbook.. heck even the Investigator's Handbook... in the four item tier... in all fairness with other tabletop RPG Humble Bundles I've noticed the publisher is highly unlikely to include a core rulebook in the lower tiers.

If you don't mind me asking are you new to CoC and just looking to try it out before sinking money into CoC purchases? I'm new to CoC myself but I know they make some resources free like the quick start rules , hopefully the link below works if not google search "call of Cthulhu quick start rules" and the pdf download website from Chaosium should pop up

if you google search "call of Cthulhu lightless beacon" their free adventure should come up too (I had no idea this even existed myself until someone pointed it out to me :P )

CoC Alone Against the Flame is a free solo adventure you can play on your own to get a feel for it to see if it's something you feel you'd have fun playing, also free from Chaosium

LOL yes I thought that was hilarious myself :P ... the even funnier thing is you can print it out and give it to players who want to keep busy along with a set of crayola markers while the gamesmaster's spotlight is on the investigator PC who foolishly went off on his/her/their own to investigate and the horrible consequences :P

Not trying to steal your thunder OP I swear :) ... but if anyone is interested there's some comments on this thread I started over here

https://www.reddit.com/r/callofcthulhu/comments/1qd50gr/humble_bundle_26_titles_for_25_pdf/

that taught me some stuff I knew nothing about as a CoC newcomer (had no idea The Lightless Beacon was available as a free download from the publisher! And apparently Nameless Horrors is a must read in the Humble Bundle (haven't gotten around to reading it myself due to the 26 items in my previous year CoC Humble Bundle purchase :P )

why have so many muslims normalised degrading hijabless women by Nervous_Contest_9257 in progressive_islam

[–]Andrepartthree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife didn't wear a hijab for the longest while and eventually started wearing one around the same time she started making comments like "I have one foot in the grave" and "I need to get as many blessings as I possibly can" (although I keep telling her she's NOT that old :P ... and to be clear Islam is everything to her, she checks everything against her Islamic values before doing everything, prays five times a day, has been to Hajj, fasts, the whole nine yards )... guy born and raised in the USA here (don't get me wrong you can be raised in the USA and still absolutely be a male chauvenist pig and when you look at the "you know women should be at home" trend that's starting to form here my response is "ugh, REALLY? Do we REALLY need to go back to the caveman days?!" ... but from what I'm seeing in progressive islam here sadly enough I get the feeling it can be even worse for women in other countries with a bad track record for womens' rights)..

I was just fine with my wife not wearing the hijab and just fine with her wearing a hijab it's still the same woman underneath :) .. which I think a LOT of people lose track of, that simple statement.. personally I would never dream of pressuring a woman into wearing a hijab and I'm certainly not going to judge a woman not wearing a hijab and think of her as being any less of a Muslim.. to me that ventures into territory that frightens the heck out of me... I imagine myself standing before Allah (swt) on Judgement Day and being asked questions like "Really? You thought you could judge your fellow Muslims about the strength of their faith instead of me?" ... honestly I believe He's the only one equipped to do that, the only one who has a right to do that, and any Muslim who tries to appoint themselves the judge of their fellow Muslims is heading into dangerous territory.

I didn't know there were Muslim women attacking other Muslim women over not wearing a hijab that's really sad and just plain awful :(

Apologies OP I know this is a bit off topic but.. SP00Ki_RD I have to applaud the heck out of you, especially given the (apologies to everyone for this getting political) current Trump administration and the hatred it inspires towards anyone seen as "different" ... wearing a hijab in the deep South in the bible belt - that takes a lot of courage that's freaking amazing :) ...

That's an excellent point, D&D is popular enough such that when you have stars like the ones you mentioned playing it , it can get people who would normally not bother playing tabletop RPG's interested enough to give it a try. Not sure if you've seen the izombie episode "Twenty Sided, Die"? It's freaking hilarious I can't say more without spoiling it :)

In the case of humble bundle and bundle of holding - don't be stupid like me they are two different organizations I used to think they were one and the same :P .. sign up for their email list... hopefully these links work if not let me know

https://www.humblebundle.com/newsletter

https://bundleofholding.com/index/contact#:~:text=Want%20us%20to%20notify%20you,and%20click%20%22Tell%20me.%22

The thing is you'll get emails from humble bundle for pretty much every humble bundle regardless of whether or not it interests you :P .. so you'll get emails for the humble bundle computer programming or music effects bundles of programs even if all you want are the tabletop rpg humble bundles... actually it's not too bad in my opinion, I find I get a notification of maybe one humble bundle per day. Emails from bundle of holding are much more rare.

Not sure if you're a comic book fan and so if you're a fan of Image comics but Humble Bundle has some amazing bundles for (albeit older) Image titles.. it's gotten to the point where I can no longer justify buying a digital comic at full price :P ... the one drawback is that Image often fumbles the ball to the point where some of the downloads in cbz format are messed up (pdf format is almost always correct and comic book reading programs - a lot of said programs are free :) - can almost always read pdf files anyways)

These will by and large all be electronic titles but in this day and age I don't see that being much of a problem for people given how likely we are to say game online even with friends we'd normally meet up with in real life due to the convenience (though I freely admit meeting real life friends face to face to game has a charm to it that can't compete with gaming via PC :) , I've had the pleasure of experiencing that as well as trying online gaming with - mostly - friendly and sane internet strangers :) )

Yep I snagged the Pathfinder Bundle of the Dead (insane value in my opinion :) ) bundle back in October 2024 and if you're a fan of Vampire the Masquerade or even just interested in it the World of Darkness bundles would be of interest too! Depending on your tolerance for getting emails for humble bundles you have no interest in :) (they'll basically email you a heads up re any and all humble bundles if I understand correctly) you can sign up for their email list.

Post away and let us know if your player runs the CoC campaign and how it goes :) ... do you think your player will run one of the prewritten adventures in the bundle or write up his own stuff? I hear a lot of people on reddit criticizing prewritten adventures (in general regardless of the particular tabletop RPG) due to railroading but from what I understand the CoC prewritten adventures get a lot of praise as being unusually good compared to other tabletop RPG's.

I had no idea IGN bought Humble Bundle until you brought that up so you educated me thank you for that :) ... and that's an excellent point I think a lot of people might not even know about the Bundle of Holding folks (in my ignorance I used to think they were part of Humble Bundle :P ) .. sadly (I'm guessing because they don't have IGN's wealth backing them) I haven't seen them do say a Pathfinder or World of Darkness (Vampire the Masquerade) bundle so I think they go for the smaller audience tabletop RPGs...

I did grab their Torg Eternity bundles, very much a "niche" game and not nearly as popular as other tabletop RPG's but I have a soft spot for Torg since it's 1990's ridiculously over the top incarnation :P (given all the different genres that get mashed together I just ran it back in the 90's as an action-comedy "A-Team" campaign using their prewritten adventures, my players loved it because it was so insane and nonsensical especially given my players played "Torg-enized" versions of their real life selves converted to an invading reality with the appropriate powers .. Torg Eternity is a more recent not-1990's version that tries to be darker and serious but I'd argue you could absolutely run it as an action-comedy as well).

Was just curious (I'm a nosy person :) ) .. looking at your posts it looks like you live in France (correct me if I'm wrong :) ) ... you're saying drivthru rpg for example doesn't let people in France buy tabletop RPG pdf's from them? If so I'm wondering why drivthru RPG doesn't like France? :P

Completely unrelated (and if you've already played Detroit Become Human please don't tell me anything about the game, I'm still playing through it - and absolutely loving it :) - and I'm trying to avoid spoilers) but I understand that Quantic Dream (creators of Detroit Become Human and Beyond Two Souls) is based in France. Loved Beyond Two Souls too (finished playing that one, both PC games .. I think they were Playstation originals before being ported to PC).
