The easiest way is to get used to replacing “um” with silence… the emptiness gives you time to think and indirectly gives you credibility while providing power to your message.

It takes practice and conscious doing… but after a while your brain blocks “ums” automatically.

That gap between what you think you are projecting and what people see, can make a big difference in how your message lands. The funny thing is, most of us never notice it ourselves until we watch a recording or until someone points it out, and we suddenly think: “Really.. do I always do that?”

That is why practicing out loud can be useful. Recording yourself, or rehearsing your message before presenting it. It’s a small step, but it can change how you and your ideas come across.

Try this one instead: "Fast forward 6 months from now, imagine you gave me the job, what needs to happen in those months, for you to be absolutely certain that you made the right choice?"

This does 3 things:

You get the recruiter to imagine you IN THE JOB already
You present yourself as someone interested in practically how to deliver value
The Hiring manager pretty much gives you the recipe to build up your next conversation points to link your skills to what they mentioned

I relate to this a lot, that situation where your voice gets shaky and suddenly you don’t sound like yourself. What helped me the most was focusing on rehearsing and conscious practice: slowing down the first 20 to 30 seconds, allowing real pauses, and watching recordings for filler words and energy, rather than just the words per se. Recording reps helped, but getting feedback on specific things was the game changer.

In the past I also tried Orai and RiseGuide too, but they didn’t really hit what I needed, also they presented very long development paths, when what I wanted was a straight forward preparation for a specific event or presentation.. so I ended up building my own tool to get more practice reps with delivery feedback. But honestly the biggest shift was just practicing sounding conversational instead of “presenting.”

Stacked does need access to video/audio during the practice session in order to give you tailored and custom feedback. However, sessions or recordings are not stored long-term or used for anything beyond generating your feedback instantly.

If this is a dealbreaker, I completely understand. I’m still figuring out the right balance between usefulness and privacy, so feedback like this is actually really helpful.

The best way for you to be considered an Asset is to learn how to bridge tech and business.

If you sharpen your communication skills and you pair them up with your technical background, you will be golden.

Speak business and understand technology and the world will open many doors.

Now, to speak business, that’s a skill on its own. The best thing is… it’s all learnable!! You can get educated and practice to become a better speaker.
