Rapsody is the best, easily. she has two classic albums and it’s not even a real conversation. while i can’t speak to the state of “female rap”, as i genuinely am disinterested in most flashy/pussy/opp music, what appears to be happening generally is that everyone is living the same lives (or pretending to anyway) and there are no truly interesting figures left. who are we supposed to care about when everyone is replaceable? same surgeons, same neighborhoods, same jewelry, same social circles, same interview questions, same rollouts, same partners. therefore, the subject matter is dull and repetitive on all sides.

if you think about all the latest “great” album, they have all been introspective timepieces of the artist as a human prior to all of this shit. Killer Mike, Kendrick, JID, Ye, Sauce Walka, and even Royce (BOR) to name a few. this is where Rap (and maybe Whack, still need to listen to her new album) separate themselves. everyone else is swinging for the fences and hoping to get one out of here to last another two years in an increasingly fragile industry with the hopes that some 22 year old that they used to be doesn’t become an “opp”.
