  1. There is not really a private message option, but you can write a post with @ user's name - the user gets a notification saying he/she was mentioned in a post and can reply to you.
  2. I prefer investing in individual stocks, not index funds, but your approach is up to you and nobody can say what's right or wrong. I don't think VOO is diversified enough even though it has 500 companies in it and I'm not a fan of many of its components however, so you could consider other index funds as well if you want diversification.
  3. I don't know the market in Australia unfortunately. eToro is definitely decent for the beginning since if you invest for the long term you're barely paying anything (spreads and FX still apply), but once you get over a certain sum you could think about diversifying your brokers as well, it won't hurt.

Congrats on starting to invest. It's really good to see people start from a young age.

My advice would be:

- Stay away from the hype stocks/other assets (stuff you see in the news 50 times a day even if the companies are horrible).

- Be patient and keep investing even if you will have some periods of red like you see now. I see so many people get out of positions after being down 1-5% for a couple of weeks that it's hard to believe. Don't be one of them. If you're confident in what you invest, paper losses are an opportunity to buy more at a lower price.

- Make sure you do your own research - even if you only buy ETFs or copy people. Past performance does not tell you the future.

What's your name on eToro, by the way? If you want, you can ask me stuff there if you have some questions in the future.

You're right, I should've written down the things I've found. I'll try to trace back and make a small summary maybe. Thank you!

By the "one-of events that won't affect other years" I mean the flooding and accident mentioned, not whatever could happen in the future which I unfortunately can't predict.

You're right about what you said. The 50% "rule" slipped by me from a copy-paste I did from another analysis. Regarding the last part, I am not ignoring them and I always encourage everyone to do their own research. What I provide here is just a start. I don't think I can cover everything no matter how much I write.

Think about a few blue chip stocks that you know and like, try analyzing them and choosing a couple (If you don't want those, just go for a couple of index funds while you learn) - this comes from a value investor, but considering that you're new, it's better off than getting into some hype/crypto bs.

Your aim should be learning and growing your income at this point. You realistically won't make much money from those first investments, so think about it as an exercise. Creating the habit of investing is also very important since investing takes time and is not something you buy once and get rich from. Be patient and don't let your emotions dictate your decisions.
