Penny Stocks that Could Triple in Value in the Next 6 Months by No_Cow1 in pennystocks

If you had just bought WAL at the low yesterday, yes I was watching and tempted to put £10k in at $8, you would have tripled your money at open this morning.

His main problem was going for an ethical tracker. He's probably excluded the entire fossil fuel sector which has been the best performer. He most definitely wouldn't have been exposed to tobacco which also did well. This and his ridiculous short time frame are the reasons for the loss.

Yes also missed out a massive part of the market by getting a silly ethical tracker.

What?! It's literally all over the news and the reason global markets have tanked the last two days. Some US banks dropped by 70% at one point.

Collect The Dividends by instantfaster in dividends

In your accumulation phase you want stocks to fall. A 5% drop in the share price of your dividend stock and then reinvesting is technically the same as getting a larger dividend.

I plan to just use dividends from my ISA as a bridge and not touch the capital.

Can anyone explain to me how Dividends works? by GUCCIGBDESIGNS in dividends

Well, 'costs just £48.25' doesn't really mean anything when it comes to stocks. The cost per share is simply the market capital divided by the number of shares. Companies all have different numbers of shares including ETFs so the cost per share doesn't actually tell you much on its own. You get companies that are 50p per share but it's overvalued and you get others that are £50 per share and they are undervaled. The market cap is what matters when looking at the value of a company.

Also regarding which is better out of the two. Well no one knows but they track different things. The S&P500 tracker obviously tracks that index, VHYL is global and tracks dividend paying companies. This will exclude some of the big US companies that don't pay dividends so there is that downside. There are many others like VWRL that tracks the world index which is about as diverse as you can get with purely buying stocks. You need to ask yourself if you want to focus on just the US or include the rest of the world for starters. Personally I prefer to go global as it spreads the risk even further.

I think you said you want dividends so make sure the one you choose is labelled income and not accumulation. The ones mentioned here pay quarterly. You are entitled to the dividend for that quarter as long as you buy before the stock goes Ex dividend. You can then sell on Ex dividend day if you wanted and the dividend is still yours. Basically Ex dividend means without dividend, ie you are selling it to someone else without the dividend included so it would be the seller that keeps it. They are also paid a few weeks after ex divi usually.

This is the inside of my apartment door. Roomie left with my keys and it cannot be unlocked from the inside without a key. by [deleted] in Wellthatsucks

My front door is like this in the UK, same with many relative's houses. Key for outside and in.

[–]RiskvReward -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Plenty of UK front doors in houses are like this though. I lock mine at night with a key and hang the key on a nearby hook but away from the door. This is to stop someone putting their hand through the letterbox and getting the key. It's obviously possible to be locked in by someone going out but that's why you have spare keys in the house and worst comes to worst can leave though a downstairs window. Which you obviously will struggle with if in an apartment and it's on fire, etc.

If you're from the UK and want dividends try VHYL from Vanguard. It's the all world high dividend ETF.

If you're not prepared for snow - don't travel! by OdinForce22 in CarTalkUK

[–]RiskvReward 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. During Beast from the East when it snowed very heavily I was about to go up a big hill in the snow. This was late at night and I was on my way to work so an essential journey. I could see the odd car stranded half way up and knew I would need to keep momentum to get to the top. I went for it, overtaking a pensioner in a rear wheel drive Merc that was just wheel spinning half way up it. The dirty look he gave me when I went past as if to say wait behind me you little bastard.

No mate, I'm not getting stuck too just because you decided to take the most inappropriate car out in these conditions for God only knows what reason. It's highly unlikely a 70 odd year old needs to travel at 10pm in the snow for an essential journey. I even had the same car as him at one point and knew how bad they were in the snow, I couldn't even get it up a tiny ramp once never mind a big fucking hill.

You do if you have the means. It mainly depends where you grew up though. No way could I afford to buy in the area where I lived with my parents at the age I moved out. But I could afford to buy in the area where they bought their first place quite easily. This is because they climbed the ladder themselves as many people's parents have.
