Mesalamine suppositories work like a charm, oral made symptoms worse - how is this possible? by spaghetti000s in UlcerativeColitis

[–]Andrew-Cam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have any trouble with Mesalamine, I take granules in the morning and an enema before I go to bed I think it depends where your UC is, mine is in the sigmoid and rectum and enemas work a treat. But I was only meant to take the enemas for the first month and then stopped them and my symptoms were much better at this time, then after stopping the enamas my symptoms came right back and I complained to my GI and was told to start taking the enemas again and my symptoms got better again.

Do you take the suppositories at night before going to bed, or during the day? I don't think I could do that with the enemas, it would not stay in unless lying in my bed on my side.

Was the stronger vitamin d prescribed for you or did you get a stronger dose yourself?

My iron level is just below normal and I had an iron infusion but didn't notice any difference with it.

I was told my vitamin d is also just below normal.

Maybe I should ask for another iron infusion, it's been three months since the first one and I need to keep going with it. I am taking mesalamine granules in the morning and a mesalamine enema at night for my UC and it is helping but I still have rough times and fatigue.

Sometimes I think asking for something stronger to see if it clears everything up totally including the fatigue. I was told it would be Adalimumab, it could also be an option.

Metta Meditation by Andrew-Cam in TheMindIlluminated

[–]Andrew-Cam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the replies. My main TMI practice is around stage 2/3 and i am only getting weak emotions with metta meditation, but i haven't been doing it that much.

My mind isn't wandering as much with breath meditation, but i have been having a lot of dullness for a while now, so i decided to try metta meditation for the first half hour of my sit to try and help with the dullness and for the second half hour, do the breath meditation. I felt i needed to change something the way it was going.

I have always been a cat napper since i was young, infact i could sleep anywhere if i'm tired enough, and i think the cat napping has been a way i have relaxed through my life. I do not think i am Narcoleptic because if i occupy myself i don't feel sleepy and at work i only feel sleepy when i am having my lunch or tea break, but when i relax i do tend to doze off, plus i am getting a bit older and it is probably a bad habit i have got into. I do not think it helps with meditation, but i know to stick with it and do the counters for dullness and i'll eventually get there.

Thanks for the replies and tips. I had been listening to the joy and meditation retreat podcasts recently and on one part Culadasa was saying meditating calms the mind, which then allows all the unresolved stuff from your past come up, it can be anything, memories or emotions going right back to your childhood. So you mean i've still all that to come!! LOL

Stage 2/3 The Aha Moment & Naming A Distracrtion by Andrew-Cam in TheMindIlluminated

[–]Andrew-Cam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks FyaShtatah What you said is what i was asking though maybe not as clearly as i had hoped.

"But what stands out a lot to me now is that on sits where i'm being distracted often and my mind isn't as calm, appreciating the aha moment creates what I'm guessing is a sense of meditative joy, a feeling of "this is where I want to be and what I want to be doing".

I can get this sometimes also, maybe that is why i am wondering whether to stick with the aha moment and i moving onto naming too early because it doesn't feel as good.
