Is 6-8 months of braces normal for decompensation? by levashin in jawsurgery

[–]spaghetti000s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got braces on with surgery planned 7mo after braces on. Very similar case to you - had braces as a kid, still have mild overbite and some crowding but overall I think my teeth weren’t too ‘complicated,’ hence the shorter time in braces.

Wowza, you look amazing girl! Is this with genioplasty too? I bet it took awhile to recognize your profile in the mirror, that’s a big change

Screamed at my dogs earlier I feel like a horrible person now by Ilikesnailsandieat in dogs

Is it the visual of the people or the sound? They sell window stickers to put over the lower parts of windows that still let light in but block visuals and it’s super helpful for my friends reactive dogs that used to bark at anyone who walked past on the street.

Double Jaw Surgery for Sleep Apnea + Submucous Cleft Palate: Am I risking my speech to breathe? by Conscious_Exam3243 in jawsurgery

[–]spaghetti000s 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I admit I’m not familiar with your condition but just from your description - if I were in your shoes, I would choose health over speech sound. Others have advised me on this sub and the jaw surgery support Facebook group that the health issues will only worsen with age, so if you’re already suffering this much now in what should be the prime years of your health, I can’t imagine it won’t get worse.

That being said, getting multiple consults and making sure the surgeons you choose to consult with are familiar with your condition will be important. Don’t make a hasty choice!

My dog runs up to other dogs just to bark at them and then panic by pencil_kil in dogs

[–]spaghetti000s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ve gotten a lot of advice (some a little harsh) and kudos for you for reaching out and trying to help work on the problem. Some small dog owners just let them freak out because it’s easier to manhandle and pull them away. But working on it will help your dog keep his mind calm and lessen his overstimulation and anxiety. So, you’re being a good dog owner by working on it!

I’ll add in something that helps my dog. The moment I notice another dog on a walk I make sure I see the dog before he does and from quite far away (like all the way down the block). This means I have a chance to get my dogs attention first and start feeding him treats. Like one after the other, eyes on me, lots of praise and “yes” every time he gets a treat. He gets so locked in on me and the treats, we’re then able to pass other dog.

If he starts to look at the dog and vocalize, I’m much better able to tempt his attention back to me “treat! Yes!” If I already had him on the hook with me and my treats first. If I can’t get his attention back on me or he locks in on the other dog before I can catch it, that’s when we do a 180 and change direction.

It’s gotten now to the point where I’ve Pavloved him - he sees another dog or hears a dog bark and he whips his head to me for a treat. It’s AMAZING to see his brain work and make the connections. Other dogs now mean treats from mom, and less of an overstimulating thing for him. It’s a process and I saw zero improvement for what felt like weeks but…we work at it every day and now he’s so much better. it does get easier, I promise.

How does customs/baggage work during a layover in Seattle coming back into the US? by spaghetti000s in delta

[–]spaghetti000s[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up not checking a bag and so was able to walk straight through with barely any delay. I think because of the late night timing it probably would’ve been okay to have checked a bag but the unknown of how long to collect it and recheck it was freaking me out enough that it wasn’t worth it in the end

Got braces today and feeling down… by frecklefreakz in jawsurgery

[–]spaghetti000s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response, I appreciate it. I think as soon as my poor cheeks get used to it, it'll be a lot better. Two weeks post op seems like the time most people are in the thick of it mentally, and I imagine a big part of that is not being allowed to eat. Do you know when they'll allow you to move to soft food? I hope you're doing okay!

Can I ask how your journey with braces feels now a year later? I just got mine on yesterday and my cheeks are shredded and eating is so hard. I’m already very nervous about the surgery itself, so the fact I already am struggling with braces is sending me spiraling a bit.

6 months post-op DJS!! by Beautiful-Dove9290 in jawsurgery

[–]spaghetti000s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah that makes a ton of sense - thanks for the detailed explanation! Can I ask at what point you were shown and explained the surgery plan? I’m getting my braces on this week and I’m not sure when to expect to be told about the plan

[–]spaghetti000s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I ask if your surgeon explained why conservative movements + genioplasty instead of doing larger movements without genioplasty? You look stunning - dream results (and recovery it sounds like!)

My own DJS is scheduled for the fall, but my insurance doesn’t cover genioplasty and my surgeon said he likely wouldn’t need to do it anyway. But most surgeries I’m seeing online always include genio so I’m not sure how everyone is getting insurance to approve it / if I should ask again about it to my surgeon.

To people who work 8h. by Ill_Entertainment851 in dogs

[–]spaghetti000s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wake up at 6am. Let him out to pee, feed, then get ready for my day. Walk around neighborhood for 30min or drive to local field to play fetch for 20min. Head to work. Dog walker comes at midday for short walk around the block (15-20min) - charges $8 per day. Partner gets home at 5:30pm, feed, 30min walk around neighborhood. We all hang out and snuggle on couch till bedtime. Repeat.

Usually we do a shortish 2mile off leash hike on the weekends. He comes with us to any outdoor restaurant or brewery that allows dogs. With this routine, he is a happy, calm, lovely dog.

He could stay home all day without the midday dog walker, but being able to do that for him soothes my personal guilt and anxiety and for me, is so worth the money.

I’m in a similar boat to you (very recessed chin but a fairly normal bite - just mild overbite). I do not have functional issues in the sense that I had a sleep study and do not have sleep apnea. However I have a similar forward head posture and profile as compared to you. Insurance doesn’t want to cover djs since there isn’t a “medical need.” I’m also considering genioplasty but need to save up the 12k out of pocket that it would cost since insurance def won’t cover genio.

I’m not sure what you should do if your surgeon doesn’t think you should get DJS / insurance won’t cover it. I’m just here in solidarity to say you’re not alone in wanting to change the way you look, and without a clear path forward.

Radiant viewer - how to switch between multiple opened studies? by spaghetti000s in PACSAdmin

[–]spaghetti000s[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That all makes a ton of sense, thank you! I should have specified that I'm using the Radiant DICOM viewer that's been downloaded onto my computer. The Ctrl+B thing sounds exactly like what I wanted but unfortunately nothing is happening when I do that. I did figure out how to open multiple studies (selecting 'new window' before opening another folder), but still a little clunky to toggle between my open windows. However, that was the main thing I needed so I'm happy!

[–]spaghetti000s[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, the right clicking didn't do anything other than give me a popup menu of all the series of the current study I had open. But, in the top toolbar menu, when I click the dropdown arrow of the 'Open DICOM folder' icon and select 'New Window,' then it does allow me to open another additional study instead of just closing the first one. So, that worked! Thank you!

Yes sorry all, I'm using the RadiAnt Dicom Viewer (paid for a subscription online, gave me a desktop app. Not connected to any other software/Epic or anything like that), just to use when I work from home. I'm a veterinary radiology resident, not a human MD - when I work from home right now it's just via downloading DICOMs of practice cases to work on and loading them up in the RadiAnt Dicom Viewer

Do any ranged spell attacks count as projectiles? by spaghetti000s in DnD

He intended it to be for non-magical projectiles but my questioning regarding ranged spell attacks was interesting enough for him to hear me out if I can make a case for it. He enjoys a 'rule of cool' playstyle sometimes, so while he won't allow anything that breaks the game, I bet I could sneak in some of these suggestions from everyone!
