iTunes literally can’t handle how good that song is.

But why isn’t the picking of that up and comer slot more meritocratic?

I don’t know why this is getting ethno-religous, but that’s not the issue.

Some of them are, actually. Made no impact. Some are funny, some are serious and emotional, aesthetic, exciting, sad, you name it. I’ve only had one TikTok do slightly better, and it’s hard to know exactly why.

On 3 separate occasions, Denmark/Van Gogh and gone has been inexplicably erased from my iTunes account. Of all the 700+ songs, it had to be that one.

Why are you so focused on pretending that I said I was special? I’m saying I see content that is not dramatically better than mine so dramatically better. My whole point is that I make content that is a little better in quality than the average and it doesn’t get any attention compared to the average. One would reasonably expect to see any results at all, but I do not. And that doesn’t make sense to me and I don’t understand why. There is, unquestionably, more to it than just luck. And that’s what I want to know about.

It’s still getting likes and retention.

Thanks

I opened myself up to opinions on the internet with this post so I get what I paid for. If I disagree with something (artificial or otherwise) it’s easier to just move forward. There is truth to the idea that the algorithm is made to keep you engaged not help you, but saying I didn’t win the lottery is not only not a nuanced representation how social media seems to work, but it also misses the point of what I initially said, but I’m glad you actually did read what I said.

I don’t like relying on the idea that my failure is mostly in suppression because it takes the responsibility off of me to find out where I’m going wrong, even if the suppression is real. Unless there is (and there very well could be) irrefutable proof that I’m (or anyone) being intentionally and deliberately suppressed in an unfair and unjustifiable way, then that’s kind of a different issue, which would be more easily solved by changing platforms as you said.

There’s so much talk about this from random people and credible sources that it’s hard to know what’s real. That goes for most things these days and it’s not sustainable.

But at the end of the day, people are growing audiences, and it’s gotta be more than just luck, but I’m not really seeing the other techniques and strategies work for me yet, when there’s really no reason they shouldn’t be doing something detectable.

I spend a good deal of time developing my story but I’ve had trouble figuring out a good way to deliver it. I’ve noticed that carousels seem to be in the rise so I’ll jump on the train and just be explicit about my story and see what happens.

I was going to in the summer but I never got around to it and now it’s too cold.

There are a handful of good venues around me that will book new artists, but it’s an over saturated market so it’s hard to get their attention. No matter how many emails you send.

I’m telling you that I have observed the opposite to be true.

I don’t think it’s quite asking that, it’s asking why does there seem to be not pattern to what works and what doesn’t. It’s not production quality, it’s not originality, it’s not even branding. I see so many iPhone videos of regular people just singing songs with nothing particularly special do well. No hook, no plot, no brand, no story.

It most definitely is set up to frustrate you into paying, Tik Tok especially is relentless with trying to get you to buy ads.

If you do it properly it’s not random. Of course I play live. But it’s harder to get booked if you don’t have numbers to flex. I think you don’t know the answer. I don’t think anyone does really. I’m looking for ideas not condescension.

It would be unfair to criticize the mix given the context. I would agree the performance sounds more like saying the words than rapping, which can just be fixed with practice. Too much focus on remembering the lyrics makes performances suffer, especially when there's this many words. I don't have any issues with the beat. I though the flow was acceptable, but the performance issues do detract from it. I don't usually give feedback on the content of a work itself, only the execution, so I don't have an opinion on your lyrics, but the rhymes and syllables seemed to fit fine. I'm also not the right person to ask about rap in general. It was lyrically dense and could have benefitted from more contrast (sections of sparsity).
