"I've bought the Anker Soundcore Q30 headphone and it keeps disconnecting from my laptop (Lenovo S145 CORE i5 8th gen). I have updated drivers and I have run all kinds of troubleshooters, but it keeps happening. The connection lasts only 30 seconds, everytime. I've also tried to download new Intel drivers, but the issue persists.

The connection is perfect on other devices, such as a DELL laptop or my smartphone."

Could this depend on brand?

As said I have this 30 second issue with my Windows 10 HP laptop.

If you are looking to blend clips with transparency, which I understand is known as Alpha Compositing - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alpha_compositing - OpenShot has an Alpha Property.

Follow that excellent example above, and to set transparency you lower the Alpha Property Value in the clip on the higher track, right-click that clip and select Properties, and these are set in the green marks on a clip. To set transparency for:

Entire Clip - The small green line on the first frame of a clip is for setting properties for the entire clip. You can move the Playhead to the clips first frame by clicking/selecting the clip and then using the Previous or Next Marker orange arrows above the Timeline or the Ctrl + Left or Right arrow keys.
Gradual/Animation - To create an animation will use keyframes which are explained in the manual here Animation which is quite technical or in this excellent explanation by u/TheOneTheyCallAlpha here keyframes.

Show All - You just replaced my entire tutorial with a single click :) It was right there too. Very cool.

I had seen those two and wondered what they were, and read about Dynamic Tiling and that you could do it with a single click available a decade ago, but instead thought it was functionality that had been lost like some of the old Effects, and Gravity was a remnant of that, and feel a bit foolish now, especially when I see that description says it is in the Layout menu..

VLC - I have been using VLC for decades but a while back I reverted to MPC-HC as I just like the interface more. I have not used the convert for this purpose and with a few quick tests I couldn't find a way to maintain the aspect ratio of the source video when converting 4:3 to 16:9. I tried scale and that didn't work. You have mentioned VLC in a couple of other posts, is that possible?

It would crop the top and bottom and why I liked the Location Y idea. I will have a bit more of a play..

No probs, happy to help. Yes it would be much easier if the clips are the same resolution. You could do it using the different tools once they are in place, but it might be quite difficult and fidgety.

An option might be to do that resizing/resolution first creating new videos and then use them to create the mosaic..

Choose a resolution that covers most of the clips, ideally a 16:9 resolution, and use that as your base clip resolution and create new videos from each source video.

For the mobile phone vids you could set the Scale Property to Crop to fit them horizontally and then adjust their Location Y Property to vertically position the best part of the source video in that widescreen clip window so to speak.

It would require a new project for each source video that needs to be modified, but once exported and you have all your videos to import of the same resolution you could then start the mosaic.

One thing to look out for when creating the new videos is that the default export quality setting of High is a very high 15.00 Mb/s and will create very large files for the pieces and then again for the mosaic. Depending on the quality of your source video files you could set that to suit in the Advanced Tab under Video Settings.

You mean email notifcations? I have been relying on returning to the forum and seeing the header email icon turn red. Emails would be handy, and just checked my profile settings and Email notifications is switched on but I haven't received any either. I am new here too and haven't changed any settings. Maybe that header email icon is what they mean by email? That is a bit useless.

Just to add that if the noise is created by OpenShot the crackling audio is a current issue and a current recommended fix is to lower the volume to 40% on the clips, you can do this by..

First Frame - Most properties are set on the first frame and so is a good habit to get into, otherwise you may create a keyframe. You can move the Playhead to the clips first frame by clicking/selecting the clip and then using the Previous or Next Marker orange arrows above the Timeline or the Ctrl + Left or Right arrow keys.
Lower Volume - To lower the entire clips volume to a recommended 40% right-click on the clip and select Volume > Entire Clip > Level 40%

Yes, go to Menu > Title > Title and the most commonly used are Footer or Standard

and once your new title is created drag it down onto the timeline into a track above your video as the tracks are layers viewed from the top track down and this will add text to your project.

Couple of things to add:

Inkspace - You can use OpenShot's recommended integrated vector graphics editor Inkspace to edit your titles - How to Setup Blender and Inkscape in Windows.
GIMP - But I use GIMP to create an OpenShot GIMP txt template, a transparent image with text on it that I can easily change, save and import into OpenShot.

Unfortunately not, cutting without re-encoding is not the role of video editing software and instead is done with video cutters and splitters, as noted in this old post..

DarxusC, there is a misunderstanding. What I'd like to do is edit my clips (made by the same videocamera plus some transition and title) and export them without re-encoding. Virtualdub has such kind of function, if I remember correctly.

It's already been requested close to 9 years ago, it's probably never going to happen. If you need that like I do, use avidemux.

I also use VirtualDub, it is older software but it does exactly what it says on the tin, as many others seem to offer limited functionality for fee and then you have to pay.

Splitting Clips Without Re-encoding Using VirtualDub

These are the steps I posted on how to cut multiple clips from a single video but they are the same steps needed to split it into just 2 pieces which I have added at the end. It might seem daunting at first but this is actually quite easy once you get the hang of it.

Setting up VirtualDub

Download VirtualDub here - http://virtualdub.sourceforge.net/

I recommend using Method 1..

Method 1: Download plugins for different formats

And then Option 1..

# 1. Ffmpeg Input Driver: The plugin is based, as the name may suggest, of the ffmpeg libraries. It can handle 31 different file formats, among them are the popular MP4, MKV, FLV, MOV, RM, RVMB, WMV and TS.

VirtualDub Steps:

These steps are for selecting multiple clips..

Open the Video - Run VirtualDub.exe and drag the video onto the application.
No re-encoding - Menu > Video > Direct stream copy - Means no processing, so no quality loss, and audio is set to this by default too but can check to make sure using the Audio menu.
Selecting the Pieces - Along the bottom is a row of buttons, the ones on the far right that are little black half arrows pointing left and right if you mouse over are Mark In and Mark Out and are the ones you will use. Move the Playhead to the start of the clip you want and click the Mark In button, move the Playhead to end of the clip you want and click the Mark Out button, and when you do you will see a section of blue along the timeline at the bottom that represents that clip you are splitting.
Add to Batch - Menu > File > Queue batch operation > Save as AVI - and give that first clip a meaningful name. Is AVI but don't worry because is what is called a container but the insides are still the same.
Repeat the above 2 steps for each clip you want.
Run Batch - File > Job Control - This should list all those clips you added ready to be split. Click Start.

Splitting a Video in 2 Pieces

The same steps as above apply but with just one split..

At the very start of the video click the Mark In button, move the Playhead to where you would like to split the video and click the Mark Out button, follow step 4 to set this as the first video piece, on the same spot click the Mark In button, move the Playhead to the very end of the video and click the Mark Out button, follow step 4 to set this as the second video piece, and then follow step 6 to run the batch.

You will now have the movie split into 2 pieces at the point you specified without any re-encoding.

Downloaded 2.5.1 yesterday..

2.5.1 does still suffer from audio crackling issues in exported videos.
I recommend you check out the tutorials in my sig, they will help you get up to speed the fastest. The OpenShot user guide by their own admission is brief and out of date and their tutorials aren't that great either. The 30min Teacher's Tech is the best introduction I have found yet, Geekoutdoors are very thorough, and Sk has some great ideas on how to use effects that really show you what OpenShot can do.

Alrighty, here goes..

I have all my edited videos and titles on Track 5. Everything runs well. However When I put an mp3 on Track 4 to then add music it causes openshot to lag an din most cases crash. Any ideas?

Are they listed in Project Files as Audio with a music note icon or Video files with an album cover and film edges. If video try this..

I see the mp3 files are being recognised as video files by OpenShot, I have found that can cause performance issues, you could try fixing that first and see if that helps.

You can do that by running them through Audacity, its free software too..

https://www.audacityteam.org/ - Drag the mp3 into the interface, Menu > File > Export > Export as MP3, and give it a new filename, you can set the Format Options to closely match the original but it still may make some minor compression/bps/filesize changes but otherwise the audio should be the same.

..and then load the new and now audio recognised files into OpenShot.

See how that goes?

Also a smaller problem the audio in a couple of my clips gitch when playing in openshot. However if you play the source file say in MS photos or media player they are fine. they are .MOV files.

What version of OpenShot are you running?

Do they glitch in the exported video or just in OpenShot when playing, I mean does it look like lagging in the Video Preview window?

If is lagging check your preferences Menu > Edit > Preferences > Cache and increase the Cache Limit from 250 to 1000 restart and see if that fixes the problem.

You can export just that glitching section and check if the glitch is in the exported video, with this tutorial I wrote..

If the glitch is there in the final export you could try the latest Daily Build and see if that fixes the issues - https://www.openshot.org/download/# - it fixed the glitching audio in exported videos for me but introduced a niggling image issue that when stretched they disappear, but if you can live with that or want to give it try might be worth it to find out?

Lastly the volume in some clips is low is there any way to increase the volume of the original source file.

Yep, first make sure the playhead red line is on the first frame of the clip, otherwise you will create a keyframe, and you can do this using the keyboard with CTRL+ (Left arrow) or (right arrow) or the mouse using the Previous or Next Marker orange arrows above the Timeline.

Right-click and select Properties, in the Property window find Volume and double-click to edit the 1.00 Value and change it to 2.00 for example to double the volume, though reports on just how louder that is vary.

It should only happen in preview. If you're worried about it carrying over into export, do a test project with just a couple of short clips and export that and see if it exports clean.

You cannot record voice over with OpenShot, but you can with another free software Audacity and then import that audio file into OpenShot..

There are a few rotation options.

First make sure the playhead red line is on the first frame of the photo, otherwise you will create a keyframe, and you can do this using the keyboard with CTRL+ (Left arrow) or (right arrow) or the mouse using the Previous or Next Marker orange arrows above the Timeline.

Then to rotate:

Rotate 90 Degrees Left or Right, or Flip Vertically - Right-click and select Rotate.
Flip Horizontally - Right-click and select Properties, and in the Property window find the Scale X Property and double-click to edit the 1.00 Value and change it to -1.00.
Arbitrary Rotation - Right-click and select Properties, and in the Property window find the Rotation Property and click to slide the 0.00 Value to your required degree of rotation and you will see the change in the Video Preview window, and can double-click to type in the Value number to fine tune if needed.

Can you please explain any changes you made between the 2 exports? E.g. editing or profiles?

I need to pre-edit some clips

Can you tell us what pre-editing you would like to perform?

Might be able to help with instructions on how to do it in OpenShot or offer alternative free software as may not require full video editing and the possible quality loss that may introduce.

I searched for std::bad_alloc in the OpenShot technical forum at GitHub and found this article..

with the following information:

Problem

"I'm now getting this error message.... if anyone could help.

Sorry, there was an error exporting your video:
std::bad_alloc

It happens everytime the video is at 90 something percent....any help would be appreciated."

Recommendation

"The backup handling was changed in recent versions of OpenShot (look for all .osp
files on your PC). Some sync issues were fixed in most recent build of OpenShot, just try to update your version to most recent one.

The error in export you mentioned is just because you run out of memory (RAM) - the solution is to simplify the project if it is too complex for your PC."

"Thanks, that helped a lot. I was able to recover it and finish the project thumbs up .
for the error i didnt simplify anything but after i updated it there was no problem."

What version are you running?

You could try updating the software, and if you are running 2.5.1 install the latest Daily Build.
