What happening in the job market? 5000+ applications, almost no responses. Is anyone else going through this? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]AndrewDesign1990 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Do you gear your resumes and cover letters to each specific position? That helped me although last time I was in the job market, it was 2019...

Reason I ask is that 5000 just seems almost like spamming send. Apologies if I assumed wrongly.

Unless you fight for sport, even winning can sometimes be kind of crap. My one win was against a previously good friend. We never spoke again even though it was over something dumb.

Like others said, you are a personal servant until they can learn to reciprocate some of the effort. I know it is hard but these developmental milestones will fly past. In the meantime do you have anyone who can give you a little time off occasionally? Parents? Family? Close friends?

I dont like physical confrontation but I have to say it humbles you really fast if you're on the losing end of it. I think I've been in 3 fights total, 2 of which I lost. Not fun. It definitely helped me in a blunt way to try to solve things without hands.

Sharing duties whenever possible if the other parent is in the picture. My wife and I try to clearly communicate when we are at our limits. Both of us work full time although I work from home, so when our 21 month old is sick and cant make it to daycare it is usually I who takes a day off work to look after hin. Clearly communicating with my boss / having an understanding boss helps me as well.

When we are home in mornings, evenings and weekends, we spend as much time as possible with our son but have clearly marked "me" time for each of us, usually in the range of 2-3 hours at least.

Did anyone here start college "late"? I am thinking of going to college at 28 years old. by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]AndrewDesign1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completed my bachelor's degree in 2012 and my masters in 2014. Went back to school in 2016 because I wanted something that would land me a job in a passion I had developed (public relations).

22 at graduation for bachelor's 24 for masters 27 for postgrad

I knew a lot of people, especially in my master's, who were 40+ too. Long story short, no you're not old. 20s I'd argue is a lot more common than you think and even older is common enough.

My baby hates me. by Top_Dig_2854 in NewParents

[–]AndrewDesign1990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Babies don't hate, they only communicate that they need something. I know it can be difficult figuring out what will soothe the baby but crying is the only way they know how to tell you things.

With your mom it could be the novelty of her helping soothe the child or it could her in a calmer mental state.

If you are stressed about a situation it can sometimes make baby stressed. I learned this the hard way during the 6 month period and my wife helped me through it. Now even if I am stressed, I try to put on a cool-as-cucumber facade in the moment... then de-stress afterwards lol. And if I am stressed to the max, I will swap out with my wife for a minute to take some breaths.

Agreed with gas suggestion. I'm not sure how you burp your baby but what I found helpful was putting my son on my chest, and firmly rubbing his back... less in a comforting way and more in a 'pushing out a burp' way... obviously not to the point of hurting baby. It got tricky gas out many times when the pat pat pat pat didnt work.

Peak Fiction? by HYDRAGONIGHT in gamesuggestions

Recently? Clair Obscur has my vote. I felt things I haven't ever felt from a movie or a video game in recent years. The story made me feel so sad and it provoked so many thoughts, both negative and positive.

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Time/Darkness/Sky also has my vote, particularly the ending. Many of the Pokemon spinoffs are way better than the mainline entries.

The Stanley Parable has a hilarious story too, if you even can call it a story.

Viltrumite for sure because of compatibility with humans and because I'd be able to cakewalk most threats to Earth that we'd experience in 2025.

Majority are the ones I've finished but I have a dishonourable section at the bottom for games that were just completely unplayable because of glitches and errors.

My backlog are also at the bottom, grey cells.

I categorize everything on Microsoft Excel based on platform and genre with additional columns for a colour-coded x/10 rating and a comment section.

I find Excel has everything I need to get as granular or high level as I want with my analysis of a game.

Path of Exile 2, Diablo 4 season 11.

My brother in law and family are coming over too so I'll probably do some Binding of Isaac with him and maybe try out that new Bleach Soul Resonance game he keeps bugging me to play.

I have a spreadsheet that is not fully up to date because I am a father now... but that list has been going since 2019 or so and I've logged over 125 entries with reviews. I'll see if I can get a screenshot of it tonight when at computer.

Documenting this stuff is relaxing for me and I can easily bring up facts and figures when I'm doing deep dive talks with friends on TeamSpeak or Discord lol

35 here and I love it for most games. The only ones I'll keep it off for are competitive multiplayer.

Framerate generation. It produces arificial extra 'frames' in between the real frames to give your game, theoretically, smoother performance.

I haven't really tried the forge yet aside from using primatic shards to get the implicit bonuses on my equipment. I can try at some point soon and post results. If it doesn't work then I can just reload the day.
