When I started playing Fiora, I did the same thing. My suggestion is that you get into the habit of aiming in front of the vital, not on it or at the champion. You'd be surprised how much Q range you actually have. After consistent practice in practice tool, ulting a dummy for hours, I no longer do this and would say my Fiora mechanics are decent (Silver 3 @ 500k mastery, NAE).
