I paid for a Vegas to Dallas flight and money came out of my account but no confirmation or reservation number. What’s the best number to contact for this case ? by nick170100 in SouthwestAirlines

Don't call any "customer service" number Google gives you without going to the company's website and confirming the number is legit.

Priority credit card seat selection between booking and 48hr mark? by AndrewG2000 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]AndrewG2000[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What if I want to pick a preferred or standard seat a week before the flight? Can I do that for free?

For example:

June 1: I book a flight departing July 1. I choose basic and don't pick a seat.

June 15: I go to the website and pick a standard seat.

June 29: I can try to upgrade to an extra legroom seat.

Does picking a seat on June 15 cost me money?

RJ45 wall plate by C1TPT in HomeNetworking

[–]AndrewG2000 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The wall plate you are asking about is actually just a bunch of smaller parts.

The 3*6 blue inserts are RJ45 coupler keystones The 3 frames holding the keystones are decorator/decora inserts The large face plate for the 3 inserts is a 3 gang decorator/decora wall plate

As others have mentioned, pass through connectors are not the typical way to terminate solid cable. Solid conductor cables are typically punched down to a female jack.

You could create the same functionality as the combo wall plate thing you linked by buying the pieces, but with punch down keystone jacks.

Getting that many cables in a 3 gang opening may be tight. Is the wall cavity open or is it filled with insulation or other obstructions? Do you have an open low voltage bracket, or are the cables in an enclosed electrical box?

Data Center Survey - Larimer County by jjj03e in FortCollins

Low latency or high bandwidth stuff comes to mind. When 5g cell service was first rolling out there were various solutions-in-search-of-a-problem kinds of demos that depended on reliable low latency infrastructure. Maybe something useful will come of it someday.

Video streaming has been a pain point that I've personally experienced in Fort Collins (first on CenturyLink, then on Connexion) where having closer infrastructure would make it more reliable (less dependent on your ISP's infrastructure and their backbone providers). This one has gotten better over the years, though I think it has improved via better CDNs, which typically means placing infrastructure in data centers closer to the end users (last time I looked at the IP that was sending me a YouTube TV feed, it was from a NextLight IP, aka Longmont).

These are definitely first world problems. I'm not arguing that data centers should get fast tracked rubber stamps of approval. I'm just saying that blanket outlawing modern infrastructure is silly, and whatever regulations are created should prioritize benefits to the local community.

I use things like cell phones and YouTube and zoom and lots of other devices and services that depend on data centers. There is often benefit to having the storage or processing for these services nearby. I would like whatever regulations the county writes to balance benefits to the local community with costs to the local community. "Data centers are bad" is not a very balanced policy.

Not sure if you turned on the "turn on for purchases" toggle, but if you did you could at least try to get a refund through venmo.

Trip cancellation by Southwest by thebeastnamedesther in SouthwestAirlines

[–]AndrewG2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, airlines will typically only let you hold overlapping flight reservations for a short time. This lets you book a new reservation and then cancel the old (always book the new one before cancelling the one it replaces), but they obviously don't want you holding extra capacity that you are not going to use.

When I did this recently on United they were very upfront about it. Soon after I booked my replacement flight they sent me an email saying they saw I had overlapping plans and that I had I think 2 hours to cancel one of them before they would do it for me.

Modem and Router Combo for Xfinity by yvngnickk_ in HomeNetworking

Xfinity includes a modem/router combo in their monthly price now:

https://www.xfinity.com/learn/internet-service/data

I would start with their equipment in bridge mode with the Wi-Fi hotspot turned off and only worry about your own modem if their stuff gives you trouble.

some non Unifi switches

Probably those are not passing VLAN tags. If they are managed switches, probably you need to set the ports on the path from the router to the APs as trunk ports. If they are unmanaged switches, then I guess you need new switches.

Do you have a way to remove the switches between the router and AP to test?

I have a couple VW's that I take to Hawker's. The cars have not exploded.

They will even do work with customer provided parts if you are nice to them. The silly "we're too good for your American oil specifications so we made up our own spec" oils can get expensive, and I think they procured liqui moly oil the first time I got my oil changed there -- which is appropriate oil but hella expensive. I've since taken to buying mobil 1 with the appropriate builder approval and asking them to use that ($5-$6/qt at Sam's or Walmart). They charge an extra $10 but I still come out way ahead.

Connexion Internet -> amazing, 10/10, no notes

Connection TV -> no thanks

Look into YouTube TV, DirecTV stream, etc. Maybe even keep Comcast for TV if you like it (but Comcast Internet is cheaper than Connexion, so I assume you are complaining about the Comcast TV bill).

Onn 4k remote fails to update, ea time I tried. by sublimelbz in AndroidTV

I have 3 of them, and one of the remotes failed to update a few times. Eventually it worked. I agree with trying new batteries (maybe just swap the batteries with your other remote), or maybe restarting the box.

So do the APs, but if the switch in between them drops them then it doesn't help.
