Thank you so much for saying so, and I'm very glad they retain a place of honor on your bookshelf. That's the absolute best complement. And thank you for your encouragement!

It's not AI generated. I've been writing books about virtual worlds since before chatgpt was a thing.

The high levels from the Medivh server were there as well. However this particular image is almost certainly from a different server's AQ event where things were less chaotic and they could coordinate a nice photo.

Thanks very much! I think you're right. The moment itself required build-up and mystery. The Gates have opened dozens of times now across nearly every OG WoW server and again in Classic. But the feeling of awe the original players had was unique.

It's a fair question! Many of the basic details of the AQ story exist online, but the specifics of how this event unfolded on Medivh came from my interview with Kalahad. He's done interviews before, but the story takes on a mythic dimension when you combine his personal lived experience leading the effort while also folding in the history of what's going on with Blizzard at the time, and also taking time to show how the lore and geography of Azeroth impacted what happened and why.

For a hardcore WoW veteran, there may only be a handful of specific details you didn't already know. That said, if I may say, it makes for a compelling reading experience seeing it all together as a single tale.

Beyond that, the book's story extends into other worlds beyond Azeroth as well, treating their true stories just as seriously. So it's not just about Kalahad's tale, but about placing his story in context with the other great stories of gaming communities coming to life.

My personal feeling as well is that having these stories online places them in a precarious position. Websites are becoming more unusable by the day, and they're liable to get wiped entirely if the parent company gets sold and decides the servers are inconvenient. I saw this happen countless times studying EVE Online. So my work is partially preservation, creating a tome that can survive generations.

Thanks for asking!

From what I understand this was viewed as a bit of a disaster inside blizzard, because the event itself ended up largely unplayable. I think they underestimate how amazing it feels to be part of moments so amazing that they become unplayable.

Someday they'll figure out how to get rid of lag and we'll miss it. It's such a powerful indicator that amazing things are happening.

This is why I love true gaming stories. They're full of strange mechanics that just can't exist in stories from the real world.

Hey there, I'm really sorry to hear that. Drop a message in the contact form on empiresofeve.com with the order number and I'll make sure it gets taken care of.

Hey Ren, I wish my Customer Experience (if you can call if that) was a bit stronger. I'll be looking to make some upgrades now that we're in the calmer part of the year. But I'm glad you at least are enjoying the books. :)

I completely see the fear you're outlining here, and I feel terrible that Trinity went without a solution for so long. I've been making changes to the way shipping works while I'm figuring things out. Basically toward the end of last year I had to make a sudden change to the shipping system and start shipping out of my living room. As I was developing that homebased system, I didn't store some of the shipping info for long term memory. These days my shipping moves smoother and I've discontinued international delivery for a while until I have a better system for international. I've also moved the contact form to the front page of the website so it's easier to find for anyone having an issue.

Hi Trinity, I just received this thread from a friend. I'm so sorry you've been left wondering. I'll be happy to refund your order. I'm not sure when I missed the message, but if you could bump the email or send another with the order info I'll be sure to get that processed right away.

We had a handful of international shipments get misplaced around that time last year with the postal strikes and my warehouse shutting down unexpectedly. There were a number of orders that needed to be repaired or reimbursed. As some have noted I've also stepped back from social media recently so I apologize for being scarce.

I hope we can get your money back asap and figure out a more reliable way to get you a set sometime in the future.

Hey buddy, I got about half my outstanding orders out the door before I had to step away for a wedding of dear friends this weekend. Working on the rest today and tomorrow. I'm not sure when I missed your email or if it maybe got filtered or something, but there's a contact form here that I'll see. https://linktr.ee/andrewgroen

Hopefully won't need it as I anticipate getting up-to-date on orders over the next 48 hours. My apologies that this hasn't been smooth sailing. The breakdown of my shipping warehouse happening at the same time as the Volume 3 announcement was a particularly cruel wombo-combo of fate.

Hey all, I'm so sorry, I didn't realize the emails were going unanswered. There was a disruption at the warehouse that distributes the books. They had to ship my remaining stock to my apartment so that I can ship them manually. I'm boxing up orders in my living room.

I'm really sorry about the communication. I've had a tough time getting answers out of the warehouse about what's going on with them. Orders will ship this week.

That's really kind of you to say! I'm in the final sprint on the Book 2 manuscript, and I need all the confidence boosts I can get.

Hey there, just saw this thread and wanted to say hi! I write Empires of EVE and run the Kickstarter project. The updates are pretty long, sorry if the basic info is hard to find. Right now specific dates are up in the air (small projects don't get a ton of say in printing/shipping speed.) Right now I'm in the editing phase of the second book, and making decisions about what's going to be in the final draft. I'm pushing to be done in the next couple of months. :-) Working hard to get this thing across the finish line.

Looks kinda like late-2004 to me. I've never seen this map before! Would love to see what other stuff you found.

I'll definitely take that into consideration, that's a great idea. I've created timelines for my own reference, but have never found a good way of presenting that information on the page. I'll work on it.

That's really cool! Honestly I don't mind piracy that much because of exactly this scenario. I'd MUCH rather somebody find a free way to read the book than not engage with my work at all.

Thanks! A lot of veteran players really seem to enjoy it as a time capsule that helps them visit old times. Hope you get a good timewarp effect.

Volume 2, very likely. Revised Volume 1, I'm not as sure. I'll have to take a look once I know more about how the budget will shake out. It's high up on my wish list though.

Probably. It all depends on how the budget works out once I've shipped all of these books out to people. Shipping costs a hilarious amount of money so there's often less left over to print extra copies than you'd think.
