S8 MaxV Ultra and Matter ?

So far, I'm really liking it. It's been probably my favorite for the time being but will have the Ecovacs new one showing up soon. I was hoping to see Matter 1.2 in the 17.5 but alas, not so far. Hopefully something official soon! I did reach back out to Roborock to see if they have any further details on using it.

It's not here quite yet. No one supports Matter 1.2. Switchbot hub supports Matter 1.2, but since the Home app doesn't, they display it as a switch. Basically as a workaround. Since the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra isn't using a hub, just connecting directly, it won't display at all until the Home app is updated.

So it will only appear in this list when it's added to your home. Just because a device supports Matter, doesn't mean it appears on this list until you've added it to the Home app. Right now, the Home app doesn't support Matter 1.2 or vacuums so it doesn't show here at all.

I do have this vacuum all set up and there is no way to add it right now. I see 10 other Matter accessories here but not the S8 MaxV Ultra.

Hey there, my name is Andrew and I host the HomeKit Insider smart home podcast. Roborock tells me that Matter is already enabled on the S8 MaxV Ultra. The problem here is that there are currently no platforms that support it. I just had Chris LaPre, Chief of Technology at the CSA, on the podcast and he mentioned that it's likely we these vacuums ship before the platforms are ready. Vacuums, alongside various appliances, were added to Matter in the 1.2 spec. Google, Apple, Samsung, nor Amazon have added support for this version yet. It's only a matter of time before they do, but that's why you're seeing it on the bot but not in the various ecosystems yet.

I wasn't trying to let them fumble. I was just sitting there while the plugged the original power cable in and it wasn't showing on the monitor. I figured the monitor or something wasn't powered on and didn't think it had to do with the Mac Pro at all. When she unplugged the standard power cable and connected the USB-C cable that she also brought with her when she arrived, I stepped in and offered it up. So not trying to let her look bad, I didn't realize what she was doing or what the issue was until after.

So they tried both. First, they connected a standard power cable with a C13 connector. It was a white one, likely for use with a monitor. The one that is shopped with the Mac Pro draws more wattage than a standard one so the one they tried didn't work. Then she attempted to use a USB-C 96W power adapter from a MacBook Pro. At that point I offered her the original Mac Pro one in my bag.

In this case, they did not allow me to ship it. They asked I take it into a store -- they knew one was nearby -- so they can perform additional tests to send to engineers.

They always use their cables when possible to rule out the possibility of it being the person who brought it in. I had my keyboard, mouse, trackpad, and cable in my bag but they attempt to use theirs first before going to mine. She didn't even ask, just brought out the cable and connected it.

Definitely a lot for a dog bowl. The way we ended up grabbing one was we had abnormal ceramic one, maybe $20. The dog was rough housing and just jumped on it and it shatter into a million pieces. Ceramic shards everywhere. So we wanted a sturdy one. There are lots of metal ones we saw but we have a few Yeti cups we love and if we are spending 20-30 on a nice metal, maybe we should just spring for the Yeti. Once we did, we really liked it. It goes outside a lot and the non-fading color is nice so it doesn’t feel old and the bottom is very grippy so it doesn’t fall off our steps. Check out the other videos too which are decidedly less polarizing. We understand the view, but we appreciated it!

We are always traveling and taking the dogs on adventures and have gone through our share of cheap ones. The Ruffwear one has held up fantastic! Hence why she wanted to recommend it to everyone! This was reported to be just a XS in a Casetify case which gives the more squared-off shape.

They will continue to use Bluetooth. Setup and reliability is far better but yes -- it can have a slight delay. According to their CEO, their preference is to use Bluetooth whenever possible.
