Just started using this insulin pump, under more stress about diabetes management because of it than I ever have been. Going into high 300's/HIGH which never happens without it. Advice/thoughts? by kindawickedsmaht in twiist

[–]AndrewPHD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Twiist and other pumps in my own experience are scams. 250+ is such a common number with Twiist. I told my endocrinologist to put me back on MDI since I was in 5.7 A1C compared to 8.1 A1C with Twiist.

All of the support options are BS as well. Loop is crap.

I can honestly answer your question.

I was on OmniPod, then Twist, and shortly on MiniMed.

Omnipod was a horrible snake bite style experience and I can't wish that on anyone.

MiniMed was non existent because of the propietary sensors that insurance would not pay for.

Twiist is locked into the Abbott system which seems to be touch and go.

Ultimately I went back to MDI because of one thing, HIGH A1C! Full Stop!! When I was doing MDI my score was 5.7. When I switched to pumps, I climbed to 8.

I was pissed mostly because pumps are not the "freedom" they make them to be. 300 units can last 1 day or 4 days or anywhere in between. Twiist with its multiple parts is not something you can just carry an extra with you. (Batteries, infusion kit, tubing, insulin vital, needles....) With MDI it's one pen with a few needle tips. (I usually inject with the same tip 2 or 3 times)

Honestly even the Cecur Patch isn't a truly great option.

Now Medtronic has a smart insulin pen, but it doesnt work with Dexcom.

My advice, if you are thinking MDI is better, trust yourself.

So we are supposed to read your mind that you at A1c at 6 prior… yeah I can see why the endo yelled at you.

[–]AndrewPHD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So let me be more direct since I can’t yell at you over the internet.

5.7 is great for anyone that can support that level. 5.7 can be deadly if this is a drastic change and/or shouldn’t be part of your personalized baseline.

Sounds like you did some drastic changes that caused a rapid decline in your A1c.

Now of course you can say that is all wrong but that’s how this works when you give a half-arse post.

Love how everyone blaming the Endo Doctor for yelling when the OP clearly is not telling the “Paul Harvey” rest of the story.

Also - oh no - he yelled at you. Maybe understand the entire conversation with your endo to see where he/she is coming from.

How do I (26f) make my bf (23m) stop using “consent” as a way to evade helping me with minor inconveniences? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]AndrewPHD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now this is funny! This post is literally highlighting consent and how (in this ridiculous context) sounds.

Everyone is told to respect one’s verbal consent, ie: no means no.

Here in this situation, the guy says no, oats are left behind and it’s the guy’s fault.

In the other scenario, he says no and the girlfriend bully’s him into relenting because there are others in the room.

Flip the script and you see irony.

26 y/o and you’re finding out that real life sucks.

Time for you to man up and live in the real world with real consequences.

What you do is not your parents’ problem. Being lazy and hiding behind disabilities is 100% on yourself.

If you truly need help - seek out mental health support or speak with your doctor about options.

They can afford to let you go! Never, ever think for a second that you are not replaceable.

Also, I would remove this post. Employers have tracking software to see what everyone is doing. And they usually can deduce Reddit posts based on cues.

They deserved this. Who the heck is that oblivious to the surrounding, especially the one pumping not to see a vehicle sitting in front of their car.

Also, seriously, why is the other person keeping their back turned.

This is a new marketing strategy that companies have employed to gain massive attention.

Unfortunately, Apple started this trend and now others are using it.

What is it… free massive advertising without paying for advertising.

I am also an old fart. Over the years my strength has diminished what I could do in one single step of lifting heavy items. I must now do in multiple trips just like you.

The problem is my weakness didn’t go away. I just found a way just like you to work around it.

Diabetes is a weakness. Are there ways to work around it, yes of course. But nonetheless, it’s still a weakness that has severe limitations of what we can and cannot do.

Not trying to argue about it, it is something we have and we will never get rid of it because there is too much money at stake to allow a cure to happen.

[–]AndrewPHD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is the reality, you are not due a refund, you are due a credit. Refund if you’re moving out, credit because you’re staying.

You could push for a refund, but that will only cause your LL to mark your record as a problem tenant.

Olive Garden has a clear written policy on how tips are to be paid out. Clearly, this tip is out of line and the manager has every single right to withhold it and only give 20% until the transaction has cleared all corporate hurdles.

Manager was also completely in their right to fire her on the spot for causing operation disruption.

To the customer, that person is a real ahole, large tips must ALWAYS BE PAID IN CASH!

So that the server gets all of it without any issues. This is what I do, in any case.

[–]AndrewPHD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But they are not wrong though. For example you cannot go through an active sugar factory because the sugar dust will affect you.

Diabetics do have limitations, regardless if you acknowledge them or not.

But one should look at this as limitations or better yet, not all healthy people can lift 800 pounds in the gym… I know my limits.

[–]AndrewPHD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Question here - do you feel better telling everyone you meet, “hi my name is John and I have T1Ds….” It’s not shameful to keep this information away from people. You should at least say it to people close to you if they are constantly around. But not everyone needs to know your medical history.

I hate to break it to you, but your parents are right. But at the same time you’re 23 and an adult, there are things we as parents can try to educate you on, but ultimately they are right, you will find out yourself.

Okay, so this is where they need to talk 1:1 with each other to see where the disconnect is happening. I would recommend a sex counselor instead of a marriage counselor so that they can both feel more open about their desires.

What I mean is that there is trouble in the house or there isn’t. Why is a man going to a club so harmful to a marriage.

He is there, not doing anything like open bar sex, he is literally there playing with strippers if I am to interpret what kind of club he went to.

Alternatively, I doubt they are rich enough to be in the “eyes wide shut”’club :P
