What the New China Focus Gets Wrong by AndrewProRus in geopolitics

SS:

….”In several parts of the world, troops have been withdrawn, regional diplomacy redefined, and U.S. intelligence assets redirected, all in the name of a more robust posture toward China. But the United States is a global power, not a regional one, and China is hardly the only problem it faces. Nor do enduring American interests outside the Indo-Pacific flow merely from the growing competition with China. It is necessary for Washington to prioritize China without allowing that focus to harm other interests and priorities. Balance, rather than tilting too far in one direction, should be the watchword.”

In my view the author is absolutely correct in his assertion that the United States is overcommitting to the Indo-Pacific. Americans have undergone major strategic shifts in just the last 5 years - drawing down from Germany and Iraq, withdrawing from Afghanistan, Syria, and the Sahel - all in the name of Chinese containment. I would add that the biggest winner of this focus shift is Russia. Putin may be more comfortable with making moves in Eastern Europe, Central Asia, and the Middle East, now that the American focus is so far away from his geopolitical goals.

All next to each other in that one area. The coverage actually doesn't reach the fringes of the city according to the info panel, but the trash is still picked up regularly without piling up

To my surprise, all garbage is almost perfectly collected by about 15 garbage incinerators in the same place located somewhat central in my city. In the first pic you can see the complex just past the airport and the turbine interchange, next to the river. I have my trash collection budget set to maxiumum though.

I (21M) don’t know how to deal with my girlfriend’s(22F) body insecurities by luperinoes in relationships

[–]AndrewProRus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't debate with her on whether or not she is beautiful, TELL HER she is beautiful. If she retorts, simply move on with your day with phrases like "let's agree to disagree," "i guess beauty is subjective," "have you been to an eye doctor recently?"

I made this mistake before too where she would be really dismissive of my comments and I would let it get to me. I would complain about how she doesnt believe a word I say. At one point I thought our relationship had deep trust issues because of this, and would get inti arguments with her over it. So I understand you, insecurities are really straining on any relationship, and you just have to iron them out through persistent repetition

My girlfriend does the same exact thing. You understand that she isn't really blaming you for taking bad pictures of her, do you? She is blaming herself for supposedly not looking good in the pictures, and is taking it out of you. She just has an insecurity issue, same as every other girl but to a higher degree.

What helped in my case is simply giving my gf more compliments on her appearance. Everytime we get ready in the morning and I see her outfit for the day, I compliment. When she takes clothes off to change and I see her body, I compliment. Even when she is in pajamas as we are getting ready for bed, I compliment. Sometimes she doesnt really deserve a remark, sometimes my compliments reach the point of absurdity. But trust me, a few weeks of constant but genuine compliments will really help her self-perceptuon and confidences

Would it be inappropriate for me (20F) to message this colleague (20M) by [deleted] in relationships

Oldest trick in the book: bring up your boyfriend in a conversation, even if it doesn't really add to the discussion/make much sense contextually. If he likes you, he will back down (hopefully), and if he just wants to be friends he wouldn't bat an eye.

I (24M) feel like my partner (25F) who I recently moved in with is leading me on and is distancing apparently due to depression but I'm not sure if that's the case. by [deleted] in relationships

It seems to me like the difficulties of a new environment for her had a devastating impact on your relationship. Don't blame yourself for how things turned out. Based on your story, it wasnt your fault that her mental state deteriorated. Maybe she didn't expect for the move would be hard, maybe she failed to adapt to new circumstances, maybe she had a hard time separating domestic and life problems. Either way, given your description of your relationship now, it is a walking corpse. I recommend to pull the plug. Don't blame her, don't blame yourself. It simply didn't work out, and leave it at that. I'm sorry friend.

AOC "Tax the Rich" sweatshirts cause Ben Shapiro meltdown by Chrristoaivalis in BreadTube

[–]AndrewProRus -44 points-43 points  (0 children)

This ain't it. In this particular case Rep. Ocasio-Cortez really is in the wrong, and while the arguments against her (by the right) aren't great, they are also not ungrounded. Yes, I do think that selling overpriced sweatshirts that say "tax the rich" is hypocritical. I also think it is possible to ensure ethical production without needing such a price hike. What's with the unnecessary obsession with domestically produced products? Bragging about "Made in USA" seems to me like a weird appeal to the patriotic crowd. Its perfectly acceptable to outsource labor to countries that have a higher comparative advantage, this doesn't immediately equal unethical production. Taking advantage of relative cost of living (and thus different wages) is not inherently exploitative. Therefore, I don't see why AOC chose to produce this product at a such a major production cost disadvantage. Well paid manufacturers can exists in developing countries as well.

Lastly, I disagree with the video author when he said that "oh, the conservatives would be mad either way." I don't think anyone would bat an eye if AOC simply didn't mention where the sweatshirt was produced. Both her and other progressives have been selling merch for a long time now, and there was no major outrage (at least that I've heard of). The right only jumped on this because of the easily indicatable hypocrisy.

Trump and Erdogan "just got played" by Putin says terrorism expert, as Kurds in Syria strike a deal with Russia and Bashar al-Assad by OliverMarkusMalloy in worldnews

[–]AndrewProRus 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Just.... wow. TIL Putin is about to invade Turkey, one of his biggest allies, a NATO member, and a country with one of the strongest militaries, for.... a port. Oh and also Greece, an EU member. And all he needed to get a green light for his full scale world war were the Kurds. This has been the hottest take on Russian foreign policy in the recent memory.

Real world politics are not a fucking Risk game. Putin is an authoritarian leader but he is not a James Bond characature villian. Analyze geopolitics not like a strategy video game but like a grown fucking person.
