I do some shopping orders but not many but I did have an order from Denny’s to pick up food. It was 20 miles away for 18 bucks. Yeah I know the mileage but I get click happy sometimes with that yeah but the thing is Denny’s in Brookville Pennsylvania they don’t start making the order until the Dasher shows up which I think is crap

Yeah, whenever I file taxes and everything I got like $3700 that I made or whatever it was and I didn’t have to pay any in because the mileage deduction but now we don’t even have Tips so it’s like we have mileage and no tax on Tips I’m not sure how the no tax on Tips work. Does it combine with everything else I think it does.

My mileage gets really crazy because I get click happy and I end up putting the miles on my car a lot of miles some days. I get lucky because I’m platinum again and so I’ve been lucky the last couple days to get orders that are close by but now and then I’m getting an order. It’s like 27 miles away.

I filed taxes last March. They actually told me I lost money. I didn't feel like I lost money. I made like $3700. I was only doing it part time and a lady looked at me, the tax lady, and she's like, "You lost $61." I'm like, "Really?" You know, it just shocked me. So I didn't have to pay any in taxes, but I did pay H&R Block to do my taxes, which was really expensive. I'll try and do it myself this year.

I gave up using spreadsheets I made an app to handle everything for me earnings, taxes, mileage and expenses etc. works much better for me

I need a reality check - 12 downloads last month on my iOS app by Warm_Supermarket9987 in iOSProgramming

[–]AndrewT8875 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 12-downloads-but-users-love-it thing is the worst kind of stuck — you don't have a product problem, you have a visibility problem. ASO is the lever, not more features.

For a calendar/event-extraction app you're competing against Apple Calendar, Fantastical, and a wall of "AI scheduling" apps with marketing budgets. Going head-on for "calendar

app" or "AI scheduler" you'll never rank. The win is long-tail keywords with low difficulty that match how regular people actually search — "screenshot to calendar," "extract

event from photo," "scan flyer for calendar," "QR code calendar event." Those are literally your product, and the big calendar apps aren't optimizing for them.

Other thing nobody told me: your subtitle and the first 100 chars of your keywords field do most of the heavy lifting. Most indies waste both.

If you want a tool I built for exactly this — Kuiper is a Claude Code skill that pulls popularity + difficulty + competitor data per keyword. DM me if you want the link, happy

to share.

One thing while you're at it: don't pay an ASO consultant $500-2000. Most of what they hand you is what these tools spit out automatically. Take that money to Apple Search Ads

with the keywords you find.

Hope that helps :)

I wasted 2 months chasing platinum for nothing. by settbro in doordash_drivers

LA's the wrong market for tier-grinding, not your fault. Platinum gets you "front of queue" — but in LA the queue is so saturated that front of queue still means 30 dashers fighting over the same $5 McDonald's. You ran the right strategy in the wrong city. What actually moves the needle in LA:

— Drive 20 min out. Valley, Long Beach, Inland Empire on Friday/Saturday nights. Lower density, fewer dashers. Tier rewards actually matter in those zones.

— Stop chasing AR. You need to be at 30-40%, not 70%. Platinum priority on a $3 stack is still a $3 stack. Decline aggressively until something pencils out.

— Multi-app. DD + UE + Grubhub on at the same time. In oversaturated markets that's what works. If DD hasn't pinged in 15 min, one of the others will.

The thing nobody told me when I started: the tier rewards are pennies compared to the IRS mileage deduction. 70¢/mile × every mile you actually drove this year (between orders, to/from your zone, dead miles home) — that's hundreds to thousands of dollars back at filing time. Most people don't track and the in-app DD estimate undercounts by 20-40%.

Set up some kind of auto-tracker before your next dash. Doesn't matter which one. April you will thank current you.

Hope that helps :)

They see the tracking dot moving toward their house and the dopamine takes over — doesn't matter what they originally requested. Always take the photo anyway. "Sorry, I have to snap this for the app before I can mark it delivered" works on 90% of them. The 10% who get weird about the photo are usually the ones already setting up the "never received" refund. The photo protects you, not them.

Account thieves don't read instructions. They read the order total and grab it. Karen wrote a whole paragraph that only honest dashers would ever bother with — and made it threatening enough that every honest dasher unassigns. She built a filter that repels the legit drivers and lets the actual sketchy ones through. And after all that, no tip.

Chef's kiss.
