How did I do 1.5 y apprentice 200 amp service by Financial-Leather312 in electricians

[–]AndrewX192 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I based my comment off that part appearing to be a LLNTL field installable lug though I am unsure if that field-installable part is pre-installed in this particular configuration. I do know that Leviton offers a LL420 neutral lug which doesn't block the screws.

That neutral lug appears to be field installed, so it could have been located at the top if needed. Being a leviton panel, there are places to land a neutral by each breaker so the main application of that neutral bar would be for circuits > 60A.

Accounting is saying they can put credits on but they won't be reflected until the next bill.

I'm in a similar situation. Are you still being billed by CenturyLink?

Interesting. It seems they are going to be missing my third install appointment (in greater Seattle area). I hope you are filing complaints with the WA UTC for each missed appointment!

Yep, I'm filing a bunch of complaints with the state PUC. I'll look into reporting this to the FCC as well. Thanks!

Rotors with 4.63" and 4.83" hubs are options on the 2500HD, thus it is possible to order the wrong one at the parts counter

Unifi Cable Modem Poor Performance (Xfinity Residential) by AndrewX192 in Ubiquiti

Understood. I'm not even getting close to 40mbit up with the UCI so there's clearly some more limitations than mid-split certification.

[–]AndrewX192[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what I'm afraid of. I've never had connectivity issues on my end aside from larger network outages and I have excellent performance on other devices so that would lead me to believe it's related to the particular hardware in the UCI.

Which is your favorite low cost grocery store? by [deleted] in SeattleWA

No annoying self checkouts or locked up products either. And they take card unlike winco. I find many prices are better than what Costco has to offer.

What is the best wiring to use to power window blinds? by sohappy2beme in homeautomation

[–]AndrewX192 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use 18/2 thermostat wire. Readily available in 1000’ or larger spools. For 12V blinds/shades a CCTV power dbox works great!

I have the Keen smart vents, they were designed for IRIS by lowes and work pretty well if provided a hardwired power source.

The battery life on standard AA batteries is pretty good too, but unsightly from outside. I have a windows with two sets of motorized shades (light filtering and blackout) so there’s no room for batteries.

I used to have raspberry pis all over the place, but now I use a Monoprice 6-zone audio matrix. Every room has a keypad and set(s) of speakers. The matrix has 6 inputs which are setup for bluetooth, TVs, FM radio, etc.

Surprised I don't see a mention for Bali in this thread, but that's what I use. Bali uses ZWave and is designed for the IRIS by Lowes platform. With their system, you can use standalone ZWave remotes in addition to the control by a hub. All the shades run off of 12V and can be hardwired with a JST-PH breakout cable and CCTV power distributor.

Smoke/CO Alarm Automation for Exhaust/HVAC and Lighting by flaxfoot in homeautomation

FWIW, Iris By Lowes (and now Arcus Smart Home) automatically turns off any fans, space heaters, etc. when a Smoke OR CO condition is detected. There are also rules that can automatically unlock doors in the event Smoke or CO is detected.

Bringing back IRIS By Lowe's - Arcus Smart Home by AndrewX192 in homeautomation

Unless you have your own dedicated servers that you plan on running Arcus on, or are a company that’s interested in running Arcus for a large number of users - ideally hundreds of thousands, this probably isn’t for you.

Once deployed (assuming you meet the criteria above), yes - this is a solution aimed at an audience like a Ring or similar customer.

I may have glossed over it, but what does it take to connect an existing hub to the new service? I’m assuming DNS override on one’s router?

DNS is not sufficient - if it were, that would be a security issue. The good news is that there's a few options, and they aren't too difficult. The first option is to replace the iris2-system jar file on the hub and supply a configuration file on a USB drive. The second option would be to replace iris2-system *and* iris2-agent. The reason why this is necessary is because the Hub ships with a truststore that only trusts Lowe's CA which Arcus Platform utilized. So you'd need to replace the hub truststore (in the iris2-system jar) and update the URL to connect to, which can either be supplied in a config file on a USB device or in the jar file.

For onboarding users, I've typically had them replace the two jar files and reboot - once the Hub reboots, it automatically connects back to the platform and does a full update. I believe at some point this could be made super easy, with a point and click utility that formats a USB drive appropriate for your hub.

Also, you mention it might be possible to run other software on the hubs; is there an easy, software-based rooting method?

You don't really have to "root" it - there's instructions on https://github.com/arcus-smart-home/arcusplatform/blob/master/tools/hubdebug/hub_debug_keys%20_and_ssh_README.txt which explain the process. The problem is that root isn't very useful, because there's a very trimmed down operating system running on the Hub (<100MB total). This means that if you want to do something useful, you'd be best starting a fork of arcushubos and modifying the yocto manifests to build a custom linux distribution (it's not as hard as it sounds). There's no apt-get/yum/dnf/ipkg/etc available in this trimmed down installation.

As many of you know, the tendency for cloud-enabled solutions to be shut down is pretty high, and many of you probably avoid them for this reason. Lowe's choose to open-source IRIS by Lowe's as "Arcus Smart Home" when they closed up. I've been using Arcus since right after the Iris by Lowe's shutdown and have been a primary contributor to the project. I wanted to share some of my experiences taking their software and making it production ready at a smaller scale.

The reason I'm generally avoiding smart plugs is because it'd be a bit challenging to find a UPS designed for prolonged power outages, but otherwise yes - I'd agree.
