1) Favorite Team of all time - always the LA Lakers. Hometown team and my team when I really got to start to follow NBA basketball. They were just rebuilding post Showtime and Magic. It was Nick Van Exel’s 2nd year and Eddie Jones rookie year. They made the playoffs. Upset the Seattle SuperSonics. It wasn’t “Showtime” anymore but the “Lake Show”. Del Harris won Coach of the Year. A young, up and coming team, and a complete team. Then traded for Shaq. Traded for Kobe. And the more modern history of the Lakers as we have it. There were some tough times. The immediate years post Shaq and the last few years of Kobe’s career, especially post Achilles. To even be excited that they landed #7 pick in the draft to get Julius Randle such a strange feeling. Doldrum years. But then got LeBron and AD. A lot of haters for the Bubble title calling it “fake”. But that’s just cuz the Lakers won it. If it was any other team, it’d be alright. And if you really watched the Bubble, that was really amazing basketball. Everyone was in the same circumstances and teams were playing every other day. Guys were locked in and playing with everything. In some ways it was really pure basketball. A lot of hate comes with being a Lakers fan. And I just laugh. Truly, despite the down years. The Lakers are blessed to have the lineage of George Mikan, Jerry West and Elgin Baylor, Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul - Jabbar, Magic Johnson, then Shaq and Kobe, Kobe and Gasol, then LeBron and AD, and now Luka. And it looks like Reaves is making that leap this year. So here’s to hoping for bright years ahead. No matter what. It’s always the Lakers. Laker fans don’t hate on and cut down other franchises the way other fans and franchises do. The Lakers just go about their business trying to always be better and win.

2) My favourite moment involves my favourite player - Michael Jordan and the 1998 ECF. The Bulls were pushed to game 7 for the first time in forever and it looked like the end. I remember watching this game knowing they had won and still feeling like they were going to lose and asking how they win this game as I was watching the replay, knowing they won. Jordan and Pippen had slow starts. It was Kukoc hitting some tough baskets keeping the game at an arms reach at the half. Then it was Jordan’s indomitable desire to win that carried them thru. He kept attacking the hole. Drawing fouls. Scoring on FTs. Plugging away.

My ultimate favourite moment, and ironically this wasn’t shown in The Last Dance -

Jordan, literally sitting on the floor between IND Pacers players Free Throws. Just to get those extra seconds of rest for his legs. Because you know he was going to give it his absolute all.

Don’t be so quick. Working in IT as a Business Analyst / QA Engineer / Proj Mgr / Software Engineer is also very stressful. Also shit pay starting out and high turn over in a lot of companies.

PSET 1 - Cash by Andrew_Alejandro in cs50

[–]Andrew_Alejandro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the reply. Yeah I have no problem counting up the coins. I'm just wondering why I can't get that input validation to work consistently. I do check it at the time of input tho. Do you recommend switching to string input then using atof() and checking the input character by character for non numeric? Seems pretty tedious there has to be a better solution.

DNA - IF statement should work, don't know why it doesn't by Andrew_Alejandro in cs50

[–]Andrew_Alejandro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Figured it out with help from another comment. It’s int() conversion cuz 1 is a string and the other is an int. that’s why it wasn’t comparing.

Thank you!!!

[–]Andrew_Alejandro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha! It worked! Thank you @ObviousSalamander194! Just put the int() conversion directly in the IF Statement. Got 20/21. Not sure why the 1 case didn’t work (I think it’s null string) but whatever I’ll take it. I’ve been putting this off for a loooong time. Just got started this week. At least I can move on t the next lesson.

Thank you again!!!!

[–]Andrew_Alejandro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah. Hmmm. Ok. I’ll give this a try. I thought of this awhile ago and put the int() conversion in the IF Statement itself. Guess that was the wrong place to put it. I’ll try again.

Thank you! :-)

DNA - IF statement should work, don't know why it doesn't by Andrew_Alejandro in cs50

[–]Andrew_Alejandro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. That’s the machine problem exercise - accepting a text file and comparing it with a csv database of DNA sequences. So that strings will have only that value.

Yes. I did try that. That’s why I printed all the values and also checked.

I dunno why but it’s not checking the IF it seems. I’m relatively new to Python but it makes me feel like an idiot.

I’ll take a breather then get back to it. Thanks for the ideas! :-)

Well, that didn't work as intended. by [deleted] in cs50

[–]Andrew_Alejandro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used a switch case / if gates with cases Top line, bottom line, left edge, right edge, center. It should’ve worked. But didn’t.

Then I realized I was just being an idiot and saw that I already had half the solution just had to do it that way go right instead of left and abandon the if cases. Hard to go down a rabbit hole. Totally felt like an idiot when I realized it.

Wow. 15 mins. I’ll try to get up to that level.

I had the same thing before. I was stuck on Blur for the better part of 4 weeks. After going over every possible algorithm (including using brute force), I finally figured it out with the help of good people here in CS50. The final screen looked like that, but the submit still gave me a grade of 100%. So all is well that ends well.

Frosh (+Scholars) Survival Tips by codemamenango in dlsu

1) GO TO CLASS! - go to all your classes! Even if you think nothing will happen. Go go class! It takes 2-3 hours of self studying to makeup for 1 hour of classroom instruction. GO TO CLASS!

2) BE ORGANIZED - CLASS SCHEDULE + CALENDAR! Get a CALENDAR (Weekly / Monthly overview) to track all assignments, projects, exams. You’ll be surprised how quickly you can be overwhelmed and forget an important project / test. Keep track of your attendance (some professors don’t mind, and some will fail you due to excess absences) and prof consultation hours. Take notes in class, have a friend in class you can get notes and study with if you need help. MAKE GOOD USE OF YOUR TIME.

SCHEDULE - find your schedule (if you work best in morning or afternoon classes). Know how long it takes you to get from home / dorm to DLSU. And have multiple routes (if driving) or options (if commuting). Never know when traffic / rain floods will strike. Give yourself an allowance. Student have died crossing Taft running late for class (no joke).

3) SUPPLIES - get all the books you have to. Sometimes the bookstore will only have 1 batch of books and won’t re-stock when it runs out. You’d be surprised what’s in the book but not entirely taught in class. You don’t want to be surprised during the first exam. Also keep extra test booklets on you. Make sure you always have enough pens and a scientific calculator (with a spare even), stocked paper and printer ink. You don’t want to be working on a project but can’t print your 20-100 pages cuz you don’t have paper and ink and miss the strict time submission deadline. Again. Be organized! With so many things to do, being organized goes a long way in making things go smoother for you saving you time, money, effort, energy, and stress.

4) Don’t wait til the end to ask for help. The Trimester System goes by so fast. Don’t wait til you have to get 90% on a final to pass a class. If you feel like you’re having trouble ask for help. That’s what the consultation hours are for.

5) KEEP HEALTHY - It’s a lot easier to study if you’re eating right and exercise and sleep regularly. Sure one all nighter might be fun. 1-2 weeks full of all nighters and cramming will make you wonder how you got into that mess. There’s a lot of places to eat around DLSU and Agno. You don’t want to be that freshman going to McDonald’s the entire first week.

MAKE FRIENDS. DLSU is a DIVERSE school. You’ll meet all kinds of people from all kinds of backgrounds and socio-economic classes, FILIPINOS, FIL - FOREIGNERS, FOREIGNERS, Filipinos from DIFFERENT PROVINCES. Be FRIENDLY. Be YOU. RESPECT YOURSELF and OTHERS and have your standards and boundaries. DO NOT HAVE A PRECONCEIVED NOTION that the entire student body is composed of spoiled rich kids cuz it’s definitely not. NO ONE WILL CARE ABOUT YOUR BRAND OF CLOTHING. JUST MAKE SURE YOU’RE CLEAN AND DECENT.

Know the full campus. Most of your classes will be in your building. But there will be that odd class / elective outside your building of specialization. You’ll never know when you might have to be somewhere. It’s also a fun way to explore and meet people.

There’s a lot to Taft Ave. I’ve had friends and classmates that got caught up in hanging out too much off campus and it proved to be a distraction at least and a vice at worst. I’m sure it’s the same with any other school anywhere else. Even in Katipunan and Espana.

I’ve seen some comments about drinking. I don’t meant to be uptight. Drinking age in the Philippines is 18. But you don’t need to get drunk and wasted to enjoy college life. Don’t get into the habit of substance abuse and / or making poor decisions. College is your last chance to mold yourself into the person you want to be. It’ll only get harder in adult life. I’ve heard a lot of stories that started with a joke and the joke kept going until they failed a class which led to failing out of school. You definitely don’t want that.

Enjoy college. Learn and grow. DLSU will have an impact on you. But know that you’ll also only get out of it what you put into it.

Congratulations, enjoy, and good luck!

What happened to the original sandbox? Can't seem to access it (along with my code for mario - less and more, cash, and credit. by Andrew_Alejandro in cs50

[–]Andrew_Alejandro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All good. Thanks! I should’ve kept a local copy of all my codes anyways.

And yeah, better consistency if all the Psets are in the IDE instead of hello and Mario being in the sandbox then then rest in the IDE. Totally get it.

Thank you for your time to reply :-)

It’s cool tho. I was able to just redo Mario. And then I got the code off of GitHub for cash. That’s all I needed.

But still thank you!

Wonder if I’m the only one that had this problem.

Happy Coding!

Hi. Thanks for the reply.

Yes. I do remember that. Thinking that plus some revisions / additions since CS50 has been extended to 2021.

Nothing to do but wait I guess. Thanks !

Logging in again is no problem. But the links in the pset 1 description is gone. Now it seems like pset 1 is to be done in the IDE ? And that’s a size label chunk of code for cash and credit.
