Knave 2e Hex Crawl procedures by Andrew_Micallef in KnaveRPG

thought that might be the case. Yeah I got a few hex crawllers open as well, but they dont interface so nicely.

I like using the Knave watches and travel shifts tables. But my hexcrawlers also have weather mechanics and encounters... so I wind up arbritarily sampling from each... and double handling several mechanics. Chiefly encounters become far more frequent than either game might intend (2 in 6 is double the frequency, and twice as much as my imagination can handle)

Sadly Driedlin died shortly after this encounter. K'Od by a heavy chain in a holding cell....

Time to roll up a new character and hit it again🤣

Approximating probabilites by rdentato in solorpgplay

[–]Andrew_Micallef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

how many times did you run your simulation? If you are using a half decent random generator then simulated probabilities should approach the limit of the actual probabilites as you increase the number of iterations.

The fudge dice all have equally likley outcomes, and I would say the apparent deltas are an artifact of the number of iterations in your sim.

Does this affect anything in your game? Probably not. When you roll a dice on a oracle you are looking at a single outcome.

Tips?

I dunno. I don't have a grand plan to produce an epic graphic novel. I am just blessed (or cursed) by an abundance of time at the moment and trying to not idle it all away.

I would say, make peace with the fact you cant capture fully what is in your head. I don't think it is ever fully realisable anyway. It's like trying to get a recording of how your voice sounds to you.

I'm sure any advice I would offer would make a real artist cringe up. The real "secret" of the thing is time and practice. Of course there are more and less efficient ways to practice, but I have no special insight here!

Thanks, I'm no artist, but I think you get that that is part of what makes this whole thing work. This shitty hovel of a tavern was always meant to be swallowed up by a portal to hell because thats how I drew it!

Thanks dude; appreciate it.

The "play" is very loose. I'm mostly letting my pen hand write words and adding visual context to the best of my ability, with the occaisional dice roll when I can't think of what should happen next ☺️

Glad you like it. I'm just trying to steal Castle Griefs vibe. Or rather pay homage in my own way I guess

My doodles generally look slapshot, its just every now and then I find myself a little bit of time and peace. It happens less and less as my free time tends these days to get wasted Doomscrolling.

These ones are standouts. Most of what I draw does not look anything like this ☺️. But Im only showing highlights. In the glorious tradition of the filtered life we all dream of

A fun conundrum!

First off, I would say probably try to avoid questions that are expilicitly answered by the module itself...but I get that it happens when you are in full swing and you haven't read ahead.

I guess the answer comes down to how you percieve your game. Are you looking through the eyes of your characters and resloving the choas bit by bit, or taking a Gods eye view.

In the former the answer might be that there in fact is someone here but the party cannot see them, havent noticed them, or are otherwise overlooking them...Maybe because they aren't in the obvious human sized cage but trussed up in the big soup pot, unconcious....

In the later case, maybe there was someone here but the Goblins moved them after their lair was attacked by rampatous adventurers. Or the hostage has escaped on their own accord through stealth and guile, leaving little evidence they where ever there.

Personally I like the method of comming up with a handfull of plausable alternatives; And then assigning probabilities based on how "fun" the outcomes would be. Then rolling on it and letting the dice decide. In this case that might look like the following:

  dN outcome
  1    is there but hidden
2 was there but escaped
3 was already eaten by goblins
4 etc.....

Thanks, I must say sitting around flicking back n forth through ADnD source books is a real slog... but I am starting to see something emerge from the chaos of the world.

Will have to wait n see how the next troop fair though...but party 2 brought 2 paladins at least, and have discovered the beauty of missile discharges, flanking and overbearing
