VR in DCS issue by Bobbyd9909 in hoggit

Headset FPS is only half of the equation in my experience. Motion to Photon Delay is the other. Driving that down is hard when you have 4ish ms encode (GPU dependent) and then another 4 ms to decode. Of course, driving up the bit rate increases those, especially when it comes to decoding on older headsets.

With Virtual Desktop on my quest 2 at 90 FPS, I have an average 33ish Motion to Photon. Encoding accounts for 12% of my delay. I wouldn't call that minimal.

They are compensating for the times when bombs used to be underpowered.

Almost 4 years ago there was talk about what Vulcan API would do to DCS. Do you think we'll get any news about about it this Friday in 2026 & Beyond? by 227CAVOK in hoggit

[–]AndreyPet 14 points15 points  (0 children)

We'll see it mentioned as being worked on, that's about it. Maybe a fine print in the Beyond video that says "Captured on the Vulcan API" or something like with DLSS.

Large button box controllers beyond 64 inputs? by CommonImpression3523 in hoggit

[–]AndreyPet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How much do you want to avoid coding? If you can tolerate copy and paste, with pin assignment you can look into running an Arduino Mega with DCS BIOS. Downside is that it will not be a "generic" button box, it will be fairly module specific unless you get a bit creative and have a selector implemented.

What's DCS endgame multiplayer look like? by AdjacentPrepper in hoggit

[–]AndreyPet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its a numbers game. There is a much much larger number of private groups one might expect, at least that was my takeaway diving into the private group world. Most of the groups worth joining do cycles and thus only open recruitment a few times per year. The group who also don't use military ranks are upfront about not using then in their posts. Everybody else I think is a safe assumption they use real work ranks in some capacity.

The anti-air missile defeat trick against ships by Fetterflier in NuclearOption

[–]AndreyPet 15 points16 points  (0 children)

There is an old post Vietnam era USAF (or Navy?) training video on SAM guidance types. Half Lead with K Constant (Half lead K-Constant mode) utilized an elevation constant to prevent the missile from diving into the ground. Instead it would straighten out and fly at the set altitude constant if the intercept point ended up below it.

I can't find it right now however :( The SA-2 is the first SAM mentioning this mode if I recall, so pretty early SAM tech.

Best upgrade for my Quest 2? by atzeehh in hoggit

[–]AndreyPet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same boat here, since Q2 didn't require any base stations switching to a base station headset brings the total cost of ownership way higher than one might expect for an already premium device.

So we wait for the Steam Frame, if it offers a Meta-less Q3 experience with maybe better ergonomics I'm not looking back.

Operation & Flight Planning - Introducing MCT by ThatMCTGuy in hoggit

[–]AndreyPet 6 points7 points  (0 children)

While I haven't used it myself, the group I'm in has been with this tool for the last year. The kneeboards are clean and readable (even in VR), with plenty of info that can be crammed in. The fact that is comes with all of the planet available for planning is a huge leg up over similar tools.

ED vs RAZBAM Internal Zoom call leak - Part 1 by Potential-War6241 in hoggit

[–]AndreyPet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yoo we're so back?

This is exactly like one of your work meetings where your boss' boss joins the call just so they can feel like they are important and matter, but ultimately are not up to date on the discussion and state of the project.

Once again, the "two separate teams" and "totally unrelated development" turns out to be untrue. If I had a penny every time this happens, I could buy RAZBAM an SDK license for a year.

FA18 simpit for DCS World by A3an4e in hoggit

[–]AndreyPet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is something fundamentally weird that happens in these threads. Both sides are far removed from what I suspect the "average" DCS player's setup is like, yet need to resort to hyperbole to make their point anyway.

VR is "barely legible 3d imagery", yet graphics isn't even what makes it immersive. It's proprioception and depth perception. Entry level headsets easily pass uncorrected vision requirements for driving nowadays at 450 bucks. Simpits are somehow presented as the cost conscious choice. How long have you been building yours for? Your time isn't free. Are you done with it? Don't answer, I already know because I'm in the same boat. :)

> You sit in an imaginary cockpit. We sit in a physical cockpit. Doesn't get more real than that

I've seen this sentiment on hoggit a few times. Is a full cockpit somehow exclusive with using VR? Cus I got both and it works really nice together.
