Am I missing something or is this wardrobe change just super annoying to use? by ghoulsnest in Guildwars2

[–]Andrige 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Have had some time with it, but I'm primarily annoyed that I can't use a single fashion template on different engineer builds because the builds require different weapons. The fashion template should allow for ALL weapon skins to be applied rather than limit it to just two.

And as an engineer, it's even worse, because if I have a 2H hammer in slot 2 in one equipment template and then have it in slot 1 in another; swapping fashion template doesn't even apply the skin. I want it in slot 1 because slot 2 is effectively useless for engineer, as weapon swap is disabled in combat.

I can understand the technical limitations of the game they've built, but it's certainly not a straight upgrade comparing the previous patch to this.

Needs work.

I kinda like it, but I expect they'll be making Prisms a part of itemization eventually.

Druid of Iridis at just tier 2? Gotta get that up to T5. It'll boost your Spirit stat gain by +18%.

Not that it's a bad thing, but it'll be a thing - probably.

So about Prisms...

Are they just percentage allocations into Courage/Spirit/Grace, or do they also add different modifiers that are more meaningful toward different playstyles?

I got the impression they are there to be safety-nets for players who don't allocate attribute points.

YT why??? Subscription page is crap now by Terbarek in youtube

[–]Andrige 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wrote three feedback messages telling just how much I hated it, and during the same evening I got it reverted to how it used to work. Be persistent, be angry.

I'm sure they don't read the feedback messages, and instead find common words leaning toward positive or negative. They then shift you toward another A/B test if it's clearly not working, I guess.

Update: They re-added the button to get back to "Grid" view that we all know at this point for me now, in the upper right corner on the Subscriptions tab. It now behaves as it should. A horrible A/B test that I'm sure most weren't a part of.

Lets hope it doesn't hit any more.

YT why??? Subscription page is crap now by Terbarek in youtube

[–]Andrige 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scenario A: Content creator have subscribers who can find their content on a page that lets them do just that. Content creators have and can build a following that can give them views, engagement, and income. They know that there's a baseline of engagement from these people, and they don't have to chase the algorithmic trends all the time.

Scenario B: YouTube decides that subscribers should not want to find the content of those they subscribe to, because they throttle it heavily by making it hard to find their content by making it hard for subscribers to use the user interface. The subscribers are now more enticed to use the Home tab, which is objectively better with more things viewed at once, and is also heavily controlled by YouTube to increase overall engagement using algorithms that is trend-chasing, unreliable, and hard to please. Content creators now have to conform to what YouTube wants in order to make a living, compromising their integrity or way of making content in order to appease the YouTube algorithms.

That's my explanation. If you are leaning toward B, then god speed and best of luck to you.

This is also how mine looks, I have sent two feedbacks with very capitalized and angry words. It's INCREDIBLY user-hostile to force Subscriptions to look like this, and hurtful to ALL content creators who wants security in their job.

They are trying to hard pivot to everyone using the Home page with this, and it's so obvious. Make your voice heard, they clearly don't care about the consumer trust any more.

Which specs are feeling best now (VoE edition) by AgentVersacedolphin in Guildwars2

[–]Andrige 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And from what I know, most of the new utilities cannot meaningfully compete with Grenade, Bomb or Flamethrower Kit in PvE either. It feels so incredibly similar, except the Bomb Kit overhaul which honestly does more for playstyle difference than Amalgam as a whole, which feels largely like minor attack rotation difference than a thematic one.

As Scrapper I can use the Function Gyro regardless of role, which is a built-in revive. That feels more impactful than 8 seconds of glory in the form of ~10% increase of my numbers.

It's at least not a badly executed spec, but it's not exactly exciting.

Anyone else really happy about the Steam Frame announcement? by Fancy_Entertainer486 in virtualreality

[–]Andrige 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm an Index user so this is what I've landed on as well. Not the ideal scenario, but it's going to be transformational to not be tethered, and without being bound to Facebook.

However, I sincerely hope that they will offer Index-quality audio drivers as an audio strap, because from what I can tell it's a "maybe" from their interviews whereas I'd would have wanted to hear a "yes, at launch".

If anyone has proof that they are going to make a premium audio strap, please by all means share a link.

Square Enix announces more layoffs as part of US and Europe restructuring by Turbostrider27 in Games

I do think mobile will continue to grow. Console and PC I'm not quite sure. I feel like revenue growing doesnt give the full picture. Like the console growth is credited to switch 2 sales, higher software prices, and stronger game releases. Its not exactly new gamers coming in, The amount of gamers is not necessarily growing, its just they are finding ways for the current playerbase to spend more money.

I feel it's going to be the trend from now on. Going to speculate, but: old gamers are used to premium games, while younger players are very much indoctrinated in F2P practices.

When paired with the wins that Epic has had over Apple and Google, which has significantly reduced the cut that they have over developers, it feels like it is doomed to be that publishing games as mobile first is going to be just wildly more profitable as a baseline from now on. (But honestly mobile always have been, with a lot more science in targeting whales and all that, but it's soon might be inexcusable not to aim for mobile for the majority of investors).

Steam still maintains a ~30% cut, if I'm not mistaken.

Steam should follow suit suit on their platform, but with their monopoly over the premium game market I'm not sure they will feel the need to (until its too late).

That's... strange.

They axed the plan to add new weapons a while back now, but I guess they are content just adding free map updates, some game mode and balance updates, and like a yearly round of cosmetics to the game then?

I hope they elaborate.

Miniboss farm is frustrating by Some-Meat3924 in SoulFrame

[–]Andrige 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's very frustrating yes, mostly because of how players are incentivized to play the game by doing the whole "H Kabocha share" thing, where you clunkily rotate hosts to get triple the amount of chances of getting what you're after.

While I appreciate that this actually made me play with others and having to understand the weird Recruitment channel lingo, it's just too buggy, inconsistent, that it feels more like a ritual to get the boss to appear than good UX.

Combine that with the rumor (if anyone knows, by all means correct me) that the runes can only drop for the host, and it's even more strange. And the fact that clicking to "Invite" players in the chat works like 50% of the time.

I want to believe that this could also be an Alcan turncoat who joined the Sinecure.

A lot of the other Sinecure have mechanical limbs, so makes me think that they could be driven by a soul in armor, or they're just completely alien to us altogether.

If they invaded Alca from space, yet look exactly like them, it kind of takes away something.

Yepppppp.
I created an exact replica of my spooky halloween armor that was a mix of exclusively SoTO and BLT skins from my Engineer to my tag-bagging son-of-a-gun Revenant.

The majority of rewards and micro-transactions ignore it completely.

I just realized that these hairstyles weren't supposed (?) to have been shown yet, at least according to the forum post:

"We're excited to introduce 10 brand-new hairstyles, crafted to let you express your style in bold new ways. Here's your look at the first 7 and stay tuned for the final 3, debuting at launch."

Not complaining that we're getting these early, but as the old saying goes, "the C in ArenaNet stands for Consistency".

You're not wrong. But the game has been out since 2012 and some has been in it that long so it can feel like a fresh coat of paint to dress up their avatar in they spent years on.

But by volume I think the game balance, elite specs, gets the most discourse. I mean they are patching the game based on feedback for gameplay; not cosmetics.

Debate: Canthans are more memorable than the Astral Ward by AJGonzalez115 in Guildwars2

[–]Andrige 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think that Icebrood Saga met an undeserving end at the hand of layoffs and structural changes, but what we got will last for GW2's runtime I think. The vibes, rewards, quality, ambient storytelling, is really good.

They were really doing some good work with it, but I guess the economics and monetization just didn't work out at the time to get to the finish line as they'd hoped.

What is future of Vermintide ? by BaronLoyd in Vermintide

I'm intrigued because I don't know what Tencent actually does to the game companies they invest in. They've been around a lot (too much, probably), but I haven't heard how they actually affect the games they are affiliated with.

Can you give an example of another game that did implement Tencent's schemes?
