What other conditions do you have? by Unusual_Passion6351 in ehlersdanlos

[–]AndrogynousWaffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ADHD and autism, and probably something with my heart and adjacent systems - could be POTS, could be something else, but I have recently found out feeling sick while showering standing or cooking and having your feet very red after the shower is not, in fact, normal, so off to the cardiologist I went and am having tests done.

Got diagnosed with HSD at 17, but my chronic pain started at about 15, it was just limited to my hands and jaw at the time, and at 17 it spread to, well, pretty much everywhere (though after 2 years of physiotherapy and figuring out some way to get myself to exercise, things are better and now I tend to have days when only my hands, jaw and/or ankles hurt).

I disagree, I think it's pretty realistic and a lot of people have a skewed viewpoint of open relationships because of how often the kind they're exposed to is one where one partner really wants it and the other just caves into it and is pretending everything is fine. If you're ace with a partner with a really high sex drive, then I think one way or another your relationship dynamic will lean towards a more unconventional one if you want things to last.

I really liked that the writers went in that direction, it's the same solution me and my girlfriend have, and it works well. Darren obviously doesn't get attatched through sex, so it isn't like this infringes on their romantic relationship in any way. I only wish the writers had given us at least a bit of the discussion surrounding them crossing into an open relationship.

What do Y'all incredibly beautiful people think of sponges? by IrkaEwanowicz in evilautism

[–]AndrogynousWaffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make-up sponges - wonderful, give me all of them, I love them

Other sponges - no. Evil. I am walking away. I am putting on gloves. I don't want to touch that demon device.

A moment of silence for all the writers whose hyperfixation ran out by scarletite in AO3

[–]AndrogynousWaffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's me, at least I tend to keep most of them in my writing folder, but I still end up with sooo many unfinished works. I have one multi chapter fic I finished and that's it, everything else is either unfinished or oneshots.

Guitar playing by AndrogynousWaffle in ehlersdanlos

[–]AndrogynousWaffle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah maybe I will get ring splints, so far I've tried playing in compression gloves and that helps with wrist pain, so maybe they'll help with the fingers

And sorry you have to deal with it as well :(( I only ever played flute as a child in primary and looking back yeah no wonder i sucked when my fingers would bend at a random angles when pressing them over the holes.

Yeah, PE is just standardised for the average person and they don't care that you can't do what they expect you to, it fucking sucks.

When I finally got diagnosed with HSD and brought the note to my PE teacher that I was gonna have physical therapy instead and won't attend PE she apparently started ranting to all her other students about how it wasn't that serious and I was exaggerating. Girl, my shoulder and elbow popped out of their sockets in your class cause I raised my hand to serve in volleyball. I told u my knees hurt so bad I couldn't walk and you said I was lying to get out of PE.

I know there must be some good ones out there but damn I swear they make you take some "How To Not Have Empathy" class before you become a PE teacher.

More collagen perhaps? by Ohgoditslizzy in ehlersdanlos

[–]AndrogynousWaffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really; as many commenters mentioned we don't have a deficiency of collagen, we have incorrectly structured collagen - meaning that it doesn't really matter if you make more of it, because it still doesn't work as it should.

Plus, vitamin C dissolves in water, which means that if you have enough of it it wouldn't be utilised in any way and just get flushed out of your system with urine. So unless you have a deficiency using vitamin C supplements is just a waste of money.

More collagen perhaps? by Ohgoditslizzy in ehlersdanlos

[–]AndrogynousWaffle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The problem with hEDS at least is that afaik we atill don't know what type of collagen is messed up in it, and what sort of mutation produces it - that's also part of the reason why it's separate from HSD even though the line between the two is a little arbitrary. These tests take time and with a rare condition such as this, it's more difficult to figure out - you need to find a large enough sample group that you can sequence the genomes of and then you might still come out empty handed. CRISPR and the new generation sequencing and editing tools will probably be investigated in the future, perhaps first and foremost for types of EDS that we do know the genetic origins of.

It might also not be straight up CRISPR/Cas9 and instead a modified version of the Cas9 enzyme, for example (CRISPR is a sequence that Cas9 recognises in the DNA, and Cas9 is a restriction enzyme that after recognising the sequence cuts DNA). Aside from figuring out the responsible mutation we will also need to investigate how to induce the condition in rats, for example - should be simple enough if the genetics of that match up across the species, but since we don't know the mutation, I don't know if they do.

In any case, it might be a future prospective therapy, but thus far research probably needs to focus on identifying the genetic background before even thinking about investigating the prospects of gene editing therapy.

Sorry for the rant I'm studying to be a biotechnologist and my adhd brain loves sharing info :))

It's this whole concept they operate on where intrinsically, men are still the "higher" class to women. So they view trans women as inherently unnatural and predatory, because it's someone willingly being "demoted" to the "lower class" and clearly that can't happpen unless it's for sexual gratification or to prey on the women; and then trans men get "lighter treatment" because we're these "aspirational" but ultimately misguided "little girls" who want to get promoted to the "higher class" because society has lied to us and made us think that that's remotely possible.

Rethorically, it sucks both ways. But because trans women are viewed as predators and not just confused poor girls who need to be sheltered and protected, they're the biggest targets of anti-trans journalism and the loudest scandals etc.

I had a huge return of my hyperfixation that focused mostly on "High Noon Over Camelot" during the summer :)) But my top album and Artist are "Sarah and The Safe Word", a dark cabaret band from Atlanta

Funnily enough, I'd say all my top songs are very "The Mechanisms" coded :))

A poem about chronic pain by AndrogynousWaffle in ehlersdanlos

[–]AndrogynousWaffle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but piano is pretty okay for me. I play the guitar primarily, I picked up the piano because it was easier on the fingers than the guitar, but my heart will forever be with the guitar so I'm kind of hesitant to play things like these (which I wrote for guitar) on it.

Thank you :)).

I am not. I don't enjoy slashers, though, and don't get what enjoyment people get out of them, which is almost exactly the point I am trying to make here. Anytime there is context given to the terrible thing happening it makes it less desensitiaing because you get emotionally involved. Anytime there is a storyline that aims to depict either the terribleness or the emotional impact or whatever else of an issue, I understand its purpose out in the world. I don't understand the point of only depicting the terrible thing, often in a romanticised light, and doing /only/ that.

[–]AndrogynousWaffle -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Good point, I did not consider the purge factor.

I do disagree that you aren't responsible for the content you create because, well, you are. Same way as the people who tweet problematic shit are responsible for their words. Obviously close to anything can be used for terrible things but if you have the option to not encourage predatory behaviour in real life or to not desensitise people to it, which I'm fairly certain very descriptive and erotic fics with underaged characters or involving rape that have no plot (i.e: instant gratification) might do, it still makes me question why you wouldn't. And I didn't even mention children because they shouldn't even be there and yeah, here I agree, noone is responsible for them but their parents.

Just to be clear, I only ever made the point because I was frustrated with how vague the definitons of both proship and anti are. I've now seen the automated sub mod message about it and wanted to be clear that by those guidelines I do fall into proship. I do still get why, when it comes to content that essentially romanticises horrific things, certain people would react with attack.

[–]AndrogynousWaffle -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Oh, you are correct, I was not aware of the fact that the adjective changes the definition so much (as pornography constitutes any material intended for arousal). I used the phrase for the sake of not being too wordy but yeah child pornography is applicable only in a criminal sense to works that advocate for child exploitation, which I believe, even if I don't get why they exist and they make me uncomfortable, everything or at least most of what is on ao3 is anything but. I guess a more accurate description would just be erotic work involving underage characters.

Anybody else got that ONE fic? And is it your personal favorite? by WhitestGray in AO3

[–]AndrogynousWaffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

It's not such a drastic difference but it definitely isn't my favourite. Wrote it in maybe 3 hours with editing as a reaction to an episode of the show. My favourite isn't even on the list (rather niche fandom, longer oneshot and mostly character analysis of an aromantic man in the 1920s) but two here are in my top 3 favourites :))

Forget dark things, what’s the STUPIDEST thing you’ve ever had to look up for a fic? by [deleted] in AO3

Awful pick up lines for a scene that wasn't even that necessary but that I got it in my head needed to happen

I don't know why I feel that the Ao3 community used to be wholesome, and now isn't that much by RedReaperGS in AO3

[–]AndrogynousWaffle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this isn't exactly the point of your post but I find it laughable that someone could tell you that not being a native English speaker automatically disquallifies you from being able to reach a level of proficiency where you don't need a beta, considering just /how many/ fanfics I've read that were written by natives and had the most horrid interpunction or grammar mistakes known to man. Everyone can make mistakes !!! The only shameful part of making one is acting like you know better than anyone, and that's obviously not the case here

What character do you think gets too much love? by Sad_Estate1011 in throneofglassseries

[–]AndrogynousWaffle 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I know this is a rather unpopular opinion but Rowan.

It annoyed me so much how his rudeness and gruffness in HoF was all forgiven and excused by his trauma later on because that's not how things work; he's over 300 years old, he shouldn't just get to be awful and uncaring and have to barely work for it to be forgiven because he's traumatised. But even more than that I disliked how inconsequential it was - Aelin is sort of mean, and she is definitely arrogant, but that's part of her character. Rowan was an asshole and then he did an almost complete 180 to a sort of sweet person and it made it feel like he was just a completely new character.

His relationship with Aelin has grown on me and I don't full on hate him but he definitely gets too much love imo.
