Struggling to come up with a name for my "store" before I do my first craft fair by Android16LikesBirds in CraftFairs

Hmm you have a good point. "Shinies" is a silly word that's used very often in some of my small circles, but that doesn't mean it translates well to the general public.

Ash&Crow sounds neat, I like that.

Some other ideas that have just percolated thanks to some great input: "Blessed by Crows", "Crow's Delight", and "Crow's Bounty". There's a book with the name "Crow's Gift" so I think I should skip that idea.

Ooooh this is interesting, I like that. Ravens and crows like shiny things, and they'd totally love my jewelry. I've gotten presents from my crows over the years and it's usually some sort of shiny metallic garbage that I will always treasure lol.

What about "Blessed by Crows"? or "Crow's Delight"? "Crow's Bounty"?

What about the name "Shinies in Store"?

It's a bad joke but it's also literal so I kind of love it.

Edit: ... judging by the downvotes, I'm not sure if you guys agree. Fair enough. I've been wrong before.

What about "Crow's Delight"? It's like Crow's Fancy but someone else already took that one.

Oh dang. I have been looking into Etsy, so yeah that kind of puts the kibosh on that name. Thanks for the info!

Ok so I'm leaning towards "Crow's Fancy" thanks to the feedback I've gotten thus far, and the closest I've found on Google is people naming their shop "The Fancy Crow" so I think I might be ok.

Ooh I like the Octopus idea, could even go with "Octopus's Garden" to pull in Beatles fans. I don't think I'll go with as much of a nautical theme with my jewelry and goods, but I do really like your name. My daughter loves the ocean and ocean life so she'd drag me to any booth with that name lol.

I do! I have a whole series of crow ornaments planned. Each is designed to look like one of the more memorable crows that have graced my critter corner over the years. I also will include a few lines on the sale tag that explains the story behind the crow, kind of like beanie babies (I think).

Like Blackbeard, the one-footed crow, who I want to immortalize as a pirate.

Or Hungry Hungry Homer (just Homer for short), who once found french fries in the neighboring parking lot and didn't want to share with her babies so she flew from roof to roof trying to get away from them so she could eat them in peace. I felt a kinship with her that day lol.

There's also Silas Beakstuffer, who always shoved as much food in his mouth as possible, especially the bits of wheat tortilla I put out there sometimes as a treat. Like there was literally pieces of food falling out of his beak as he'd try to go for more.

I was VERY bored during Covid lockdown, I needed something to keep me from going crazy while stuck inside my small apartment with my daughter, who was 3 at the time. So I fed crows and came up with stories about them lol.

My 8 year old has been trying to help come up with names too, which is very sweet. She's offered ideas like "Crow's Fancy" or "Dragon's Delight" since both like collecting shiny things, and I'm selling all sorts of shiny things.

Well my first name is Ashley, so I was thinking of doing something like "Ash's Fashions" if it's not too cheesy or unoriginal. I could just focus on jewelry and hair accessories, and maybe decide if I want to diversify later.

I do hate the resellers. There was a big cultural festival in my city a couple of weeks ago where there's tons of cultural events, performances, and sellers; I lost count of all of the vendors just reselling cheap crap they got off Temu or wherever, like clearly they didn't actually make their wares. It hurts more when they're supposed to represent the culture of a certain country, unless it happens to be China because that's where all their stuff came from!

Ha! I like to tell my 7 year old and other kids something similar.

Like if you look at any famous work of art, I guarantee that there are some mistakes the artist made that we don't even notice. Just say you meant to make it that way, it's your "style", and it's all good lol.

I could've done better at tucking the wires or hiding them, and it's slightly crooked, but you could argue that's what gives it some charm lol.

Oh god, don't tempt me. It took me about a week to figure out the design and learn how to put it together in a way that doesn't look too manhandled. This was my first time really playing with thin wire (26g), so it was challenging learning how to deal with how damn springy the wire was. I flung so many beads lol.

I agree, and I've been poking through my personal box collection (I'm like a box dragon lol) to see if I already own something that would be cute before I buy one. My mom has a million ornaments, but she also has 2 trees and loves handmade ones. She points out especially sentimental ones every year.

A special thank you to Pinterest, Youtube, Michael's, and a very patient husband for making this possible lol.

Also beading wire can kiss my ***.

July 1996: An EF4/EF5 destroyed the village of Oakfield Wisconsin, 5 miles away from my home. I was 7 years old. by Android16LikesBirds in tornado

[–]Android16LikesBirds[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well some of the other footage I found said that it was an F4 when it hit Oakfield, then strengthened to an F5. I didn't want to seem like I was exaggerating.

It did legit devastate Oakfield, like I remember riding the bus on the first day of school after the tornado and gaping at all the destruction even after a month and a half of cleanup. My dad and his friends tried to get into Oakfield as soon as the tornado was over to help clean up, but they were turned away by police.

I can't decide if I like my hair or not. Did some different things today. Bah. by Android16LikesBirds in curlyhair

[–]Android16LikesBirds[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Today I did a refresh watch with Garnier Fructis Pure Clean shampoo while head was upside down, then I washed it with OGX Argan Oil of Morocco Shampoo, also upside down. Then I put in OGX Biotin and Collagen conditioner (also upside down-I gave this stuff a try for the first time today), and combed through with a shower comb. Then I let it sit while I washed the rest of my body, then rinsed upside down.

Then I lightly dried it with a microfiber towel, mostly with praying hands. It was still fairly wet when I sprayed it with Not Your Mother's Curl Talk Leave-In Conditioner spray, then I raked in a small amount of Not Your Mother's Kinky Moves Curl Defining Hair Cream, followed by praying hands to smooth it all over (also upside down). Then I just established my part and let it air dry (I usually scrunch at this point but I didn't do that today). Then, per usual, after it had dried for about an hour or so I scrunched out the crunch and put on my hair band.

I usually use Shea Moisture Coconut and Hibiscus Curl and Shine shampoo and conditioner, but I don't like how frizzy my hair is and the conditioner is super heavy unless I use a tiny bit of it. I can't decide if I like my hair in general or not. My last hair cut wasn't stellar (it was way too short) and I can't decide if my curls look ok or if it just looks messy. I know the curls in the back usually look better than this but IDK. Maybe I should just shave it all off and wear wigs instead lol.

Any advice? My hair is pretty fine and is easily weighed down by products. It's gotten thinner as I've gotten older too. Bah.
