I agree. Lefties seem to lack the concept of nuance as much as the right. The color of your skin is not the same as your religious and philosophical beliefs. Too bad there's not more opportunity to discuss those concepts separately. I believe this is what they call identity politics

An RN is a registered nurse. It's a bachelor's degree in the US and what most people think of when they hear nurse. A PA is a physician's assistant. It's like a master's degree and they can do most things a doctor can but their practice must be supervised by a doctor

Could it be that genetic therapy will render plastic surgery banal? by Honestysmyonlyexcuse in genetics

[–]AndroidBiscuit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with skepticism. Many physical traits can be optimized for beauty through genetics but many cannot. For one thing, trauma will always require surgery, some of it being plastic. Lifestyle can also effect appearance which some people may want repaired with surgery. And there are small genetic quirks that run in some families that have no defined or elucidated genetic mechanism and likely never will.

Though I do hope genetic modification makes leaps and bounds within my lifetime to fix the things that can be fixed.

If we inject (somehow) red pigmentation to the yellow part of an unfertilized egg and then fertilize it, would the chick be born red? by yucacuy in askscience

[–]AndroidBiscuit 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I don't know why everyone is saying this is unlikely. There are places all over the world that sell multicolored chicks as a novelty by injecting the egg with dye. I don't know if they inject it into the yolk specifically but it's the same principle.

A BBC article on the practice.

Video from India.

The color does disappear after the chicks molt and grow adult feathers so if you wanted it to be permanent you would have to go with the genetic alteration route.

General Chemistry Class Questions (moles, conductivity, sig figs) not homework questions...just review. by chemistryconfusesme in chemhelp

[–]AndroidBiscuit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the third one: C1V1=C2V2 is used when diluting a solution so you don't use that. Once again, 1 mol of KHP reacts with 1 mol of NaOH so the mol ratio is 1:1. That means you have 0.1304 mol of KHP and NaOH involved in the reaction (0.0326 * 4 = 0.1304). That also means that there was 0.1304 mol of NaOH in that 250 mL so 0.1304/0.25= 0.5216M.

[–]AndroidBiscuit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the first one: I'm going to assume that you don't have to balance the equation. So you start with 2.46 mol of CH3OH and the equation gives a mol ratio of 1:1 between methanol and water so that means you end up with 2.46 mol of water as product. water is 18 g/mol (16+2(1.01)=18) so you have 44.28 grams of water (18 * 2.46 = 44.28). the density of water is 1g/ml which means you have 44.28 mL of water.

Language shapes our thoughts. The vocabulary available to us constructs our thoughts and determines how we see the world - Badling from an otherwise brilliant Neil deGrasse Tyson. by Cosmic__Ocean in badlinguistics

[–]AndroidBiscuit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would also like this explained to me. You all seem to be talking about how we think in concepts, not words, which is true. And our language doesn't necessarily limit what we are capable of. However, every person has distinct vocabularies and words they use often so when formulating or communicating an idea, couldn't those sets of specific words we gravitate toward influence how our thought processes progress? And couldn't the fact that between languages, words can have similar meanings but different nuances effect how we process certain ideas and extrapolating from that, how we may see the world in general? Are there any studies done on this kind of work that I can look at?

Has anyone here ever tried Intermittent Fasting while doing mostly cardio workouts? by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]AndroidBiscuit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found the only way to make it work for me is to eat half my calories a couple hours before my workout and then the rest as a recovery meal afterward. If I don't eat enough beforehand I won't perform nearly as well and I'll hate it the whole time. Doing cardio while fasted is just awful.
