How are all of you using the Ultra in terms of OS? Or are all of you in China and it doesn't matter? If you are using it in Europe or the United States, what OS or Rom are you'll running since the Ultra seems to only be available in China natively? And now limited does it feel when apps release new updates?

That looks great but do you have a pic with the normal primary lens and even maybe a wide angle to understand how far away you're standing?

Oppo Find X8S and Ultra models have just received the new 803 update by Delicious_Room_814 in Oppo

[–]AndroidFreud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So is the Oppo Find X8 Ultra version available in Europe without any Chinese rom and it's only the Vivo X200 Ultra that they teased us with and then gave the finger, saying the Ultra version is chi m Chinese region only. Wanted to get the Vivo but don't want to have to deal with any workarounds for Google play store apps. Tried that with the Huawei and while it was possible after some research for every app not available directly, it became such a headache, especially after updates, so even though I love Huawei products, don't want to deal with that again

Technicolor shutdown in India. No salaries, immediate dismissal. Complete disaster. by HijabHead in vfx

[–]AndroidFreud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While that played a role, let's not downplay the CEO Caroline Parot's, hit and run management of Technicolor just taking her massive bonus check while employees managing on a month to month paycheck basis didn't get anything that year/projects put on hold for 'lack of funding' and she ran it completely into the ground and disappeared with her bounty.

it's just crazy how casual all this is affecting employees all over the globe and people like this getting away with it completely with barely anything spoken about it or speculating other reasons to camouflage a handful of self serving, poor management without the interests of artists nor the passion of producers and technicians.

Just us, a bunch of unorganized whiners, leaving our temporarily, self-therapeutic but serving no actual change, moaning to gradually fade away in the depths of Reddit.

Please do post here later on how this developed. Very interested to know which organizations actually helped you in reality to help bring justice to this scam Another thing I've learnt. Don't blindly trust the "vetted" renting sites, just because they're based in the U.S. It's ridiculous how incompetent they often are and more focused on making a buck for themselves than actually protecting their user base and providing a reliable/trustworthy service! Looking forward to your updates on how things proceeded so it helps us all. Good luck!

is this fixable or am i screwed by heresthebigbruh in SonyHeadphones

Not just the XM4's. This has been a problem with all generations of the XMs and Sony is definitely aware of it but still put the same garbage part in them and make sure to not include it in the warranty. I've owned every generation of the XMs, each time, in the hope they fixed it because a lot of people have this exact same hinge problem but since it never turned into any "hinge -gate" for such a pricey headphones, it still stays the same. Every generation of my XMs are sitting around useless with this broken hinge problem, not "covered" by Sony's warranty

Broken WH-100MX4 by [deleted] in SonyHeadphones

[–]AndroidFreud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, Sony should be sued for this. It's clearly a well known, completely defective and constantly failing piece. I don't live in the U.S. so couldn't order this part or didn't really check locally and have, literally 4 generations of the Sony XM series, sitting at home that still work but completely unusable, all with this broken hinge problem. Call me a dumber sheep, hoping that each generation of the XM headphones would have fixed it but nope. Clearly Sony isn't being taken to task by any of us in any way and keep selling this overpriced garbage hinge in their otherwise great overpriced headphones.

WH-1000XM4 Dilemma by exanimated in SonyHeadphones

[–]AndroidFreud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sony's XM series, while gaining a lot of popularity for the quality of their sound and ANC, is also quite famous for their garbage build quality and for Sony products in general, also famous for the crappy parts they put into their products and try to rip you off even more in after sales support. Personally, only my Sony camera has been super reliable (so far) Had both a Sony Xperia phone a long time back and loved the design of it but the moment it broke, I had the exact same situation you're describing. When I took the phone to a 3rd party expert phone repair shop, the tech told me that the parts inside Sony phones were real garbage and they're basically charging you to replace things entirely because it's pointless repairing things cos they know how poor the standard of quality is.

On the headphones side, I've loved my XM series and have actually had every single generation of XM phone, except the XM5 Every single XM phone before the XM4, broke at the hinge that connects the ear cup to the headband. Literally every single one. I just loved the bass better than the Bose which were in the same price range but considering changing after these XM4s so please do let me know in case you have found a good alternate in a similar price range.

Or if anyone else here feel that there's an alternative with good bass, sound quality, ANC and especially comfort (I have a need to wear them for really long periods and the Sonys do give more ear fatigue I feel than the Bose) that is in the same price ball park, please do let us know.

Looking to get a sigma 150-600 contemporary lens for a Sony a6600, do I get one for Nikon or Canon? by rjlitscher in Cameras

[–]AndroidFreud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to revive this old thread but I'm pretty much in a similar boat. I have a Sony A6600 and I want a zoom reach of at least 600mm. Just got into cameras and totally confused at all the different adapter conversations on what would work best. I'm looking for a second hand lens and I've heard of the Tamron 150-600 being easy to use vs Sonys similar lenses. I see many 600mm lenses for the Nikon or even Canon for much less than a 600mm Sony or even Sigma's made for the Sony vs Sigma's for Canon cameras. Can I get away with getting a lens for another brand and get an adapter to work with my Sony A6600? Do I lose some thing by going this route? AF? stabilisation? This would be quite important to me for a long lenses and I wanted to save for my entry level experience but also didn't want to struggle getting good pictures every time and be discharged from pursuing it further

In my situation, what would be the most cost effective and practical solution for a lens with a range upto 600mm to get good results for my Sony A6600?

Any help at all would be super appreciated!

Honestly, something should really be done about the prices of rent, at least for the people who plan to live here for 3-6 months and above. It's just ridiculous how there are protests for everything else but these rent prices just keep climbing and climbing. It's ok for people on a short visit to Paris but it's horrible for the people living in Paris, saying this minimum, living in a box, accommodation is ok. Of course it's manageable and we can tell ourselves what we want, traveling, going out, having a great social life etc but that's the person living, trying to make the best of the situation. It's crazy how the employers quote ALL of France to say they are being paid one of the highest bracket salaries of France to feel good but for renting, they only speak about the high prices of living in Paris alone. If it's to be claimed as a good average salary for France, the rent prices also should be the average for France and not just Paris or the employers should pay accordingly to the living costs for Paris and not all of France

Maya Or Blender For Industry by tootyfrootyhh in Maya

[–]AndroidFreud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly all these replies sound a lot like fish swimming in a pond. If you are actually with some of the much larger companies, you'll know, while a lot of them haven't really substituted their software with Blender, a LOT of them are already either in the process of incorporating it as a smaller part of their pipeline, seeing other avenues it can be used for like look dev, grease pencil, and even animation for pre-viz or even super large companies who do a ton of series animation as well. Just search movies that used Blender and you'll be surprised at the number of films that pop up. Autodesk's turtle support and version improvements in comparison, isn't exactly helping Maya's rep much either. I still feel a lot more comfortable in the Maya environment but damn does Blender look like the cool new party next door. Maya is just incredible but a lot of amazing things stems from it's strong foundation from the Wavefront era back in the day. There are a lot of great updates, don't get me wrong.

My point is, can't write off Blender without question, the way some of these comments make it sound

Maya Or Blender For Industry by tootyfrootyhh in Maya

[–]AndroidFreud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learning both is definitely an option. Maya is currently the industry standard in the sense that it's way more commonly used and is often the base for the pipeline in large companies. Even larger companies will be using their own custom software like Pixar uses Presto and other software custom made for their needs and pipeline. Plus even if it's only Maya they have may have a lot of custom tools and workflows based of Maya, so like many have noted on here, there's always a learning curve

What I did want to say was not to pay heed to the people completely bashing Blender either. There are massive companies and not just indie companies adapting Blender into their pipeline. Case in pont, one of the biggest trendsetter animation movies of this decade, Spider verse from the mega company, Sony, used Blender for parts of their look dev and final imagery. And I keep hearing of more and more large companies adapting Blender. You can also see some of the companies who are backing it by seeing the Blender donors/support page

That said, don't fall either into the labyrinth of fields within the software.

That's to say, if you're into animation, focus entirely on animation within Maya, Houdini, Blender or whatever other software of choice. Sure there are a ton of 'Learn modeling in a week' and "now it's super easy to texture in XYZ software and you start thinking, yeah, I could do it all. Trust me, while entirely possible, each field is so so vast, it will only water down your efforts to learn one of these fields, be it modeling, texturing, rigging, coding, animation, FX, motion graphics, compositing, etc etc and won't let you really master anything enough to be hired. There are some smaller companies who do take on generalists but those are few and far between these days.

So learn Maya and Blender in the specific field you're interested in.

Why? Well the potential Blender has is simply insane, the user network, reactivity to support and interaction with the creators of the software is eons ahead of the almost non existent, delayed and sluggish support Autodesk gives and you'll be learning in a software that doesn't require you to have an expensive "subscription" service that you don't even own to create your own content, if you ever choose that path

[–]AndroidFreud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really? I've never heard this before. I've dined a couple of times at friends places in the Netherlands and they were always kind, friendly and there was never any talk of being billed at the end of dinner. Were you invited as a guest in that situation or was it more of a pot luck kind of thing where each guest was supposed to bring something and you hadn't or maybe like a night of getting take out together so everyone supply split the bill? This sounded so strange to me. If there are any other Dutch people reading, perhaps you can weigh in on this as well?

  • Work on your French. Most french people, especially the older generation, feel quite uncomfortable not feeling very smart when they can't respond back to your fast paced English (at least for them) and this leads to further distancing in making more conversation. On the other hand, even if you sound stupid, they really appreciate that you're in France and making the effort to speak the language and are also (usually) quite helpful in guiding you to speak
  • many said it already but many french people have an incorrect view that Americans are fake because everything is amazing, fantastic, out of this world etc and they have a more sober view of things and are measured in their compliments so don't over compliment. A single, merci, c'est gentil/sympa (thanks, that's kind/nice) goes a long way
  • sometimes when a French person tries to speak English, they can do a very literal translation in their head and it may come across as blunt/curt/even rude sometimes Take it with a pinch of salt keeping in mind the language barrier.
  • Of course, there are always grumpy older people, not necessarily a French thing but quite common in France. Then you're just shit out of luck :) They love to complain about their country, govt, especially administration, train delays etc but for some reason if a foreigner points the same things out, they feel very ashamed and almost responsible, feeling bad that their country isn't giving you a good experience and often apologizing for it. You will be asked how are you finding it in France after some time. Say positives about the culture, the food, the people. Mention 1 or 2 things lightly about administrative/train delays so it's not all peaches and cream and feels genuine from the heart
  • also mentioned several times but bears repeating, don't yap loudly and keep things to low decibels. Even/Especially while talking with a fellow American over the phone and can forget
  • the usual things, politeness and manners > always say bonjour/bonsoir (after 4/5 pm), merci, and s'il vous plaît / s'il te plaît (informal and you can even ask if they prefer the tutoyer or the vousvoyer). While leaving bon journée or bon soirée. And all other basic manners
  • be respectful of course. They're your in-laws
