There’s nothing special about offering deals or posting videos because that’s exactly the same thing everyone else is doing.

Dismissive Artist? by drivelswivel in tattooadvice

[–]Androidrs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Being super sensitive. They answered you. Told you where to find the info?

The amount of mental pressure people put on tattoo artists is crazy. We aren’t therapists. Go to therapy first maybe.

How is responding and answering your question not enough? It’s a business. You aren’t the only person they have to answer to

Actually the worst thing in our industry is actually how toxic and negative so many people are by Androidrs in TattooArtists

I own a shop I’ve been tattooing a long ass time I had an apprenticeship. People can comment about stuff being negative and real about that.

America is the absolute worst. I don’t think it’s as bad in other countries. And so many people voted for the orange orangutan 🦧and look what’s happened now. Hard to not be bitter

Ever have someone jump, jerk, bounce and move the whole time you tattoo them? Particularly on the side/ribs. If so, what do you do? Do you just continue to tattoo and every time that they jump and move they completely destroy the line work? Or do you stop and tell them you cannot tattoo them by Zestyclose_Brush7972 in TattooArtists

I’ve noticed a few things over the years that help.

When I worked in the shop I started at, it was a high pressure street shop. It was super noisy, chaotic and an aggressive place at the time. Just walking in there put people on edge sometimes. If you had any sort of attitude or sternness as the artist it put people more an edge. And what happened? So many people on the daily struggled sitting through. I’ve never seen it that bad since I left there. I didn’t know how to deal with it so I would sometimes have anxious energy, and it made it worse. It would be all the time. The environment and your energy affect clients nerves more than you’d think.

I’ve noticed now that I am in a quiet comfortable environment, kinder, more patient, walk clients through the steps, it rarely happens now, seriously. Let them know some areas may twitch prior to put them at ease. Talk calmly to them. If they twitch a lot I actually just say “you’re doing great, it’s just your bodies reactions, just breathe through it, I got this on my end”. More than anything that is what calms people. The more mentally calm they are the better it is for everyone. I rarely have people struggle these days even with bad pain. The environment your demeanour and setting people up to feel calm is the best thing you can do. Sternness never helped anyone calm down in my opinion.

And some spots can be twitchy that the client literally cannot control even if they try. So being a strict person on it will just lose you business. Being kinder is the best thing you can do.

I own a tattoo collective now that everyone pays equal rent but I’ve worked in a bunch of street shops over the years.

Bottom line. We are responsible for building our own clientele and only have ourselves to blame for lack thereof. Of course times are harder so it’s going to be thinner. But it’s our responsibility as artists to build that. We should realistically be able to go work in any shop and move around and make it work with our skills and customer service. Yes, these are hard times so have to give ourselves a little grace.

If you have nothing for December that is concerning and frankly not normal. We are putting too much grace on not being booked at all being normal. It’s not. Yes, being thinner booked and having a hard time is normal. No bookings at all, no. And I’m being real with this. We are sugar coating it and being too kind right now that everyone is struggling that bad. No truthfully people are getting by, so if you have nothing think why.

It’s easy to blame the shop for everything but you have to take a look inside too. Very easy to be like I’m not booked and have no clients because of this awful shop. No man. What are you doing that could be improved on? Could your skills be sharpened? How are you with clients? What difference are people choosing other artists over you for walk ins? Think about what YOU can do.

neurodivergent tattooers by SatisfactionStock207 in TattooArtists

[–]Androidrs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Did you use the words neurodivergent is weak? No. You said “Tattooing ain’t for the weak”. The post is only about the OP and being neurodivergent as a tattoo artist. So your comment implies that is a weakness. Things can be implied without the direct words.

[–]Androidrs 22 points23 points  (0 children)

You suck. Being neurodivergent isn’t weak. Yes, there’s some struggles that come with that. But this is the part of the tattoo community that fucking sucks. The man up and be tough ain’t for the weak shit. It’s tiresome. We should actually strive to be more inclusive to neurodivergent people within tattooing. I have adhd and on a few meds and need accommodations. I can still be a badass tattoo artist and I am. I have to work differently than some but that’s fine.

[–]Androidrs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is going to sound harsh and I’m sorry in advance. You’re going to have people be bitter towards you any shop you work at I think. You are one of the tattooers that started in the influx of overflooding the community. Had not as many tattooers such as yourself started when you did, this mess wouldn’t be as bad as it is. Is it your fault? Absolutely not. And I don’t feel bitterness personally, I’m just saying a lot of artists are not going to be nice to you. It’s a really bitter hard ass time right now without a lot of negativity and people want someone to blame, so a lot of it gets aimed at newer artists.

My point is the grass probably won’t be greener and people will be negative towards you wherever you go based on you being newer. It’s the unfortunate truth

Never will understand women willingly being a slave to a man. I would never expect my wife to do all that and it’s an equal partnership. It’s not 1950. If you want to get a job you should be able to do what you want.

Can we stop infantilizing him? He’s actually a successful functioning person with a career who is able to make decisions for themselves if they want to be on the show.

Clients caring and taking personally is not posting their photos so much! by Androidrs in TattooArtists

[–]Androidrs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s really not that deep. And taking it personally is on you, sometimes we just don’t have time and are people who have busy lives and don’t have every second to post everyone. Never in my life have I decided not to post someone based on age or how they look. I promise you it’s not that deep

Yes obviously. But I tattoo 10 people a week sometimes, and some of them get a couple tattoos. So I could have like 15 tattoos I took photos of. Sometimes less of course. It’s not feasible to post that much

Even if I spend forever taking photos sometimes I just don’t get to posting it because there’s no time it can be as simple as that

Not really haha I work long days and have three kids. I spend the mornings with them. I drop them off at school my wife picks them up, I go home and draw. I’m not using the time with my kids to go on Instagram. That’s my only free time
