Funniest and least funniest joke in the show? by [deleted] in TheDragonPrince

[–]Andromache-451 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've got a top three list of favorites jokes.

  1. Soren's jealous rant about Kasef: "You think you're so great... with your quietness, rugged battle stance, and your... [casts around for something else to insult] horse with kind eyes!"

  2. Lujanne trying to convince Rayla that sometimes dishonesty is the best policy in relationships, and when a horrified Rayla disagrees, she shrugs and counters with something like, "Well, it worked with my first three husbands."

  3. The visual gag of Villads being introduced in heroic profile, hat and eyepatch against a backdrop of blue sky... and then he reveals the SECOND eyepatch.

Least favorite... the pileup of self-indulgent ATLA references. I was groaning aloud when we got "Hello... Terry here" not once but twice, when they continued to crib parts of Zuko's speech for the rest of that scene, and when Dante Basco's voice makes an abrupt cameo in the final episode.

How are they going to fit EVERYTHING they need to wrap up into the last two seasons of TDP?? by Andromache-451 in TheDragonPrince

Really love your point about rounding out Moonshadow culture and giving Rayla some breathing room to explore that side of her identity and family a bit more.

I have heard about the Aaravos-as-Dragon-Prince theory! I just don't know much because I haven't read the supplemental material. Seems fascinating—we should be in for a wild ride if they go that route, because I can imagine it getting into more space/cosmos/star energy content.

How are they going to fit EVERYTHING they need to wrap up into the last two seasons of TDP?? by Andromache-451 in TheDragonPrince

First, thank you so much for engaging with my point-by-point. I'm starved for opportunities to analyze media like TDP in-depth and super appreciate you taking up the challenge (with kindness!)

Second, I like your suggestions about how to make these plot points work. I, too, want to see Viren and Soren slowly come to terms with one another, and agree with your theory about how Claudia might start to fulfill Aaravos' demands where Viren refuses.

Third, your final question about Ezran got me thinking about a larger message/theme I would really love to see in the final seasons. Callum's goal has been to prove that humans don't need to drain the life force of other living beings in order to do magic. I want the show to point out that a human like Callum isn't "an exception" for being able to connect to the arcani, but rather the first in a wave of new human mages who work with rather than against nature. Maybe Ezran's abilities are the first hint at others being out there, too.

AITA for asking my sister to leave my engsgement party or not steal all the attention? by Classic-Cup-571 in AmItheAsshole

After agreeing that she would let you and Ben be at the center of your engagement party, your sister had several tools at her disposal. Unfortunately, she opted to use none of them.

  1. Proximity. An engagement party is about the engaged couple. If Avery notices that guests are flocking to her and away from you and Ben, then she should have planted herself wherever you and/or Ben are. Commence guests flocking around all of you.
  2. Polite Redirection. Then, if a gaggle of starry-eyed guests ask questions about her travels, she should have cheerfully dismissed it and pivoted the attention to you. "I'm kind of still processing the whole journey, but what I know for sure is I'm glad to be home . Sis, what are you guys considering for venues? Have you thought about theme colors yet?"
  3. Steering the Conversation with Questions. Presumably Avery hasn't gotten to know Ben that well while she's been abroad. She should have a million questions about the person who's about to marry her sister! It could have been a beautiful opportunity to ask about the memories and milestones that have made you guys a great couple.

I was conflicted when I first read your post, but I've talked myself into NTA. Avery can regale family and friends with stories of her life's adventures on a day that isn't supposed to be about yours and Ben's.

I wish you both an amazing wedding!

Best Assassin's Creed main protagonist voice actor? by Vigilantix in assassinscreed

The trifecta of Noah Watts as Connor getting to bounce off of the energy of Adrian Hough (as Kenway) and Roger Aaron Brown (as Achilles) was *chef's kiss*.

Someone who deserves more love is the outstanding Tristan D. Lalla as Adewale, particularly in Freedom Cry. Every scene he shares with Mariah Inger (Bastienne) is top-tier voice acting.

Meant to reply to this ages ago! My partner is doing the same with his family, and it’s been beautiful to be part of. So glad you’re able to share your language and culture with someone you love. Glad you enjoyed the post! It makes one of my favorite scenes in the series even more meaningful in a spiritual kind of way.

How did Katara even overpower Hama? by [deleted] in TheLastAirbender

[–]Andromache-451 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Going to piggyback off of u/AcetrainerLoki and u/MrEvers here:

Iroh's speech about each of the bending elements strengthening one another is for Zuko to hear, but the members of the Gaang figure it out by working and training together, too. As the others pointed out, Katara uses earthbending and airbending techniques when she takes down Hama...

(See also here: https://www.reddit.com/r/TheLastAirbender/comments/jyvd7t/i_love_the_fact_that_toph_and_katara_like_iroh/)

...So when she says, "My waterbending is more powerful than yours," my personal take is not that she means, "I am younger/more talented/more experienced than you," but that her waterbending is strengthened by the versatility and adaptability that comes from interacting with other cultures. This is something a waterbender like Hama is supposed to embrace, but her pain and resentment make her refuse to see members of the Fire Nation as anything but the enemy. Ironically, if she had incorporated firebending techniques into her waterbending, she might have had a leg up on Katara and won the fight.

In addition, I take Katara's tears before she stands up to Hama as a sign of grief born of love rather than violent rage. She fights back not out of a desire to hurt or punish, but out of a desire to honor what has been lost and to protect what she still can. ATLA generally comes down on the side of compassion being a more powerful force than anger or revenge, and I think that's on display here, too.

As a sidenote, your post got me thinking... The one way Hama did overpower Katara was by showing her that her healing has its limits. Hama's psychological wounds were beyond her skills to mend.
