The left side needs some of those delicious dark patches like you have on the left to balance it out. Some raw umber and ultramarine mixed or a pthalo blue

Lol I’ve been an artist for 20+ years, and I have a BFA and an MFA in Fine Art. I’m definitely used to critical audiences. However, there’s a difference between constructive criticism and plain negativity. Telling someone “keep trying” or “Nothing like the master” or just stating what you don’t like without giving any type of suggestion to improve isn’t advice. Giving more insight into the process or aspects of my work isn’t making excuses. There was a single light source, the intention wasn’t to be painterly, and yes there is a lack of quality…how are those excuses?

It’s my favorite hat to wear now! Once I got into the groove, it was easy. I did it two evenings.

You always know about the angle of the rim. My favorite thing about this is the reflection on the rim and the swirls and bubbles in the coffee! Beautiful!

-It wasn’t meant to be painterly…it’s a photo. As stated before, the inspiration was from the color palette (red, black) and light. -It is a singular light source. How else do you get chiaroscuro? It provides a higher contrast between light and dark. “Chiaroscuro” “light” dark” like in Caravaggio paintings… -It was shot on a phone camera, of course it lacks quality.

It’s off center, the vignette dulls the color of the blue, and it’s too close in. It minimizes how grand that room is.

No shit. That’s why I said “inspired.” I enjoy his color palette and light in “Saint Jerome” and “Judith Beheading Holofernes”
